December 14, 2017 Fishing Report

Every now and then you get a couple of guys on the boat that are not only best friends but are also Father and Son and that was the case today with David and his Sun. They were in town for a tennis tournament where the kid was rocking it in the tournament so after one of the matches we met up at the marina and headed out to Target Bonefish on fly. The water temperatures were a chilly 61 degrees and try as we may we found 0 Bonefish in their winter spots and very little life on the flats. Changing it up we fished a few other spots where we caught an assortment of species both on fly and on spinning tackle. It was a great day with two great guys and it is awesome to see a father and son get along so well.

I was back on David's boat again with a friend of ours and a new guest by the name of Barack. We had a great time and we started off looking for tarpon. Unfortunate tarpon were staying away from their usual spots so we decided to head offshore. Once offshore we target macro and kingfish but we didn't hook any and no one no one around us did either so we had it back in short. Once in sure we hit a shallow shipwreck where there were some small amberjack at provided a lot of fun and had a 30 lb Barracuda try to eat one of them right next to the boat. Capt. December 11, 2017 Fishing Report

It's been a couple of days with really tough conditions courtesy of this massive cold front that just blew through and our overnight temperatures have been in the high 40s. Well Steve and his son-in-law are from Cincinnati so that is not cold weather to them although I was absolutely freezing. We had it out and focused on catching dinner where the guys caught a bunch of trout but they were all just short of the legal size. However they came through was landing at nice trout unfortunately we lost a few other really nice keeper Trot right next to the boat due to spit hooks. When all was said and done the guys had a great time and I rushed home to take the hottest shower that I could and thought out.

December 9, 2017 Fishing Report

Well today was definitely one of those days. I had two trips scheduled for today my morning trip was with Alan who is a regular client of mine from France in my afternoon trip was with James who is a regular local client. The weather forecast called for some pretty tough conditions but Alan and I decided to go for it and we were able to get about 3 hours worth of fishing in before all hell broke loose. It was a significant cold front moving down and barreling down towards us so we fished until we can see the edge of a cold front coming right over us in the winds went from 20 to 30 miles an hour in higher forcing us to head back to the Marine as fast as we could and I ended up canceling my afternoon trip with James. Maria is a doctor from Connecticut in a real cool lady and a big fly Fisher woman to boot. Following the same pattern as yesterday we decided to look for Tarpon but this time they were hard to come by although we did sit on top of a school for a while of rolling fish but didn't get one to eat the fly. Having only a couple of hours left we decided to once again hit the grass Flats and although we hit it during the slack tide and it was slow once the tide turn the fishing got better and Maria was able to get a few species including sea trout on fly.

Today I had Sam and Eric on board with fly rods in hand. Targeting tarpon proved slow so we switched it up and focused on grass flats where they caught trout. We ended the day on a high note but the fishing was definitely slower than a few days ago.

December 5, 2017 Report (Video)

Ellis is from Philly and was in town for a well deserved vacation. While in Miami he decided to go fishing and invite his friend Mike from Naples. After a 3 hour drive, Mike pulled in with Ellis and off we went. Hitting a few spots around Key Biscayne proved slow so we moved south and that was the ticket. Once we settled in it was as Ellis put it "Fish on every cast". We ran out of bait, used lures and the action continued. When the dust settled Mike had plenty of dinner and Ellis was all smiles. That's what it's all about! Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

Paul and Chris were in town and off we went for a 6 hour day of fishing. The bay was rocking today and they were on bent rods in short order. After catching a few fish we could use for bait I sent one back for big bull sharks and we didn't have to wait long. Unfortunately the big bull came off, three came off actually but not the 4th one. Chris was up on the rod when a big bull came by, we tossed the bait to it and saw it come up out of the water to eat it. WOW! With a solid hook set Chris was on and 40 minutes later we released about a 250lb bull shark that worked us out! Great job guys! Capt. December 2, 2017 Report

I climbed aboard David's boat today with his cousin and his cousin's friend and off we went to shark fish. Well, turns out today was one of those days that was slow and agonizing. As a guide I always want my clients to catch fish and they caught a few small fish perfect for shark bait. The problem was that there were no sharks around. Trying to make something happen we fished a few spots which proved to be slow but the last spot was loaded with fish. There were so many snappers and other species that they were changing the color of the water. The problem here was that they refused to eat! We were able to pluck a few fish out of this spot and called it a day.

I had a three boat charter today and Dave and Chris were on my boat. We looked for tarpon but the areas were blown out by the significant wind so off to plan B. We found some fish where the guys kept the rods bent and the drags screaming until a big bull shark showed up. I had a rod rigged and snatch a bait, tossed it in front of the monster shark and seconds later Dave was on! We fought the bull for about an hour and with time running out we put the screws to him. The drag almost maxed out had little effect on the behemoth and eventually broke us off. Wow, we never got to see the shark clearly but 250 pounders never put up this kind of fight so I estimate this guy to have been 300 plus. WOW!

November 26, 2017 Report (Video!)

Local regular angler Gary and his two boys Jake and Adam are always a blast to have on board and the two boys couldn't be more competitive. They wanted barracuda and steady action so that is what they got. The first spot provided steady action and a nice grouper for Adam. Oh, Oh, Jake is not happy. At this point Adam was ready to call it a day since he was in the lead and beating Jake. Of course we kept fishing and the last spot produced a nice jumping barracuda for Jake beating Adam and breaking Adams heart. That's sibling rivalry for you! Capt. November 25, 2017 AM/PM Reports (Video)

AM Report In the morning I fished with local angler and client James and he wanted fresh fish dinner and I still owed him a shark from our last trip. The first order of the day was getting some live pilchards and we found tons at the first spot we tried. With a livewell full of hope we headed off and fished a couple of productive spots catching snapper and yellow jacks. The third spot produced a solid 10 lb mutton snapper and we missed a few along the way. We ended the day on the flats where James finally landed a solid lemon shark wrapping up a solid morning trip. PM Report My afternoon trip was with Bruce and his two boys and we stayed close to the marina this time catching trout, jacks, snapper and we fished for big bull sharks but nobody was home. Wheew, what a cool day. Time to go home! Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

November 22, 2017 AM/PM Reports

AM My morning trip was with 9 year old Louie and his parents Craig and Andrea. Louie really wanted to catch a shark but with gorgeous conditions we opted to start our morning looking for tarpon. The search was brief since we didn't find any so off to sharks we went where they had a blast catching jacks as I dropped back a bait for big bull sharks. We hooked for big bulls and finally landed one I estimated at about 250lbs. Craig got a workout and Louie was in awe of that massive shark just a few feet from him. Way to go guys!
PM Italian brothers Roberto and Mateo were back on board. The last time we fished they caught a ton of trout on fly and spin and a shark and they wanted a repeat. They day went as planned except Mateo landed most of his fish, something that eluded him eluded last time. Capt. November 16, 2017 Fishing Report

David had a big crew today so we fished in his boat, a 32' Intrepid. David, 6 teenagers and I got some bait and went searching for what the kids wanted, shark. Well, the kids caught a ton of jacks, some used for bait, and set out one line. After a while we saw one big bull shark come up and I pitched a bait to it. As expected, moments later the massive brown shape took the bait, the line came tight and we were on a sleighride. The fight lasted an hour and we had to deal with a couple of rain squalls. In the end the big bull cut us off on a crab trap bouy. After this we called it a day since the storms were rolling fast and steady. Capt. Pete had been texting me to see how the fishing has been for a few weeks and today was his day. He and his friend Gary got in my skiff and off we went. With a live well full of bait we stopped off at a trout flat where we got some trout and then moved on once it slowed down. Moving south we worked another flat but that one was slow so we changed it up early and scored. The guys ended up catching some jacks for bait and then hooking 12 bull sharks, with Gary catching his first shark. Way to go guys! Capt. Taking a break from working at the Broward Boat show I took the day instead to fish with local angler James. James wanted stuff to eat and some sport so off we went. The fishing was generally slow today with no tarpon and no fish at a few spots but then we switched it up and ended having a nice day with some snapper for dinner, hooking 3 barracudas and landing one and losing a nice shark.

November 2, 2017 Report (Video)

After a few days off and enjoying Halloween I was back on the water with Alain and Ethan. They wanted to catch lots of hard fighting fish so guess what we did? Yep, caught lots of hard fighting fish. This was a day of efficiency where we got bait and stayed in one spot for almost the entire trip of 6 hours. In those 6 hours they caught their fill of hard fighting jacks but that was just the beginning. The jacks served to fill the time between one of their favorite game fish, sharks, but not just any sharks, these were bull sharks and lots of them. The total tally for the day was an innumerable number of jacks, hooked 12-15 bull sharks landed two. We lost sharks to pulled hooks, broken lines, spit hooks, straightened hooks and well, Murphy's Law. We had a great day and the weather was awesome as is typical for November in Miami. Capt. Kelly and Jeremy had just gotten off a cruise and came right to the marina to fish and get more salt in their system. Once they jumped aboard they told me "we would love to catch a shark". "A" shark I thought, let's get a few. A bull shark spot I fish had the wrong tide so we hit the flats and had a blast. We ended hooking 7 sharks, landing four, hooking two big barracudas and landing one. It was a blast and the fishing was solid today. Capt. Regular client, friend and local angler Alec brought his son Ruben along today and while the plan was snook fishing, a late start may have thrown a monkey wrench into those plans. We caught plenty of bait but a few snook spots were void of snook so we scratched that. Making a run to a shallow wreck with live pilchards on hand proved to be a ton of fun and we kept 16 nice snappers for dinner with rods bending almost immediately after the bait would hit the water. It was definitely a fun trip and we're all having fresh fish tonight! Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

Todays trip was an afternoon trip with Brett and his wife Debbie from Texas. Since we had a great tide, outgoing because the incoming tide has proven slow this week, we caught some live bait and headed south to the flats for shark fishing. Just as I had thought, the outgoing tide was the key and the fishing was solid on a small wreck we fished where Debbie outfished Brett and lost a monster fish that spooled us before I could give chase as well as on the flats. Once we set up for sharks there were tons of rays around which is always a good sign and we ended up releasing a few sharks, Debbie's first. Capt. This morning I had repeat clients John and his son Joe on board and of we went. After loading up on bait we fished a few grass flats and caught a few trout. With the trout action slowing down we fished for tarpon where we found a few boat no bites. The rest of the spots we fished were slow as well and with a busy weekend on the water, a few of the other spots had boats on them so we called it a day with after a hot start and a slow finish. October 13, 2017 AM & PM Reports (Video!)

AM Report My morning trip was a 3/4 day with Jeremy and Jessica from Alaska. Miami was their stop on their way to a cruise and they had booked me months before but today was the day. The goal was to catch a number of species and keep the rods bend and that we did. After loading up on bait we it about 6 spots, all producing fish including sea trout, jacks, tarpon, sharks and snapper. The bay was definitely firing on all cylinders today and it was great having them aboard. While hooking tarpon and jacks, Jeremy hooked 4 massive bull sharks that we couldn't turn. Each of the sharks either broke off or spit the hook. Either way, it wa a great trip with two great people.
PM Report My afternoon trip was with Austin from NC and with the fishing being slow on the incoming tide over the last week or so around Miami, we decided to head south and fish wrecks and flats in south Biscayne Bay. The first wreck had some nice fish on it but we lost all the larger fish but Austin did hook a nice blue runner for shark bait and it got demolished right next to boat by a huge barracuda. Unbelievably, the 'cuda got hooked in the corner of the mouth and didn't even nick the flouro leader! A cool jump and a long fight later Austin had a big 'cuda to the boat for a photo op. Moving on to the flats we hooked a few sharks and landed two with the second shark coming in at the last moment as we were reeling in our baits. This was a very cool trip with a very cool guy! Capt. October 9, 2017 Fishing Report

Today had me very excited because we had some really nice weather and although we were still dealing with the effects of the king tide we definitely had less wind and I already saw a slight Improvement in the water quality. The benefactors of these improving conditions were Dan and Oksana from Canada. We started off buying some live pilchards and running down to the creeks in South Bay for Snook. However the first two creeks we fished had tons of fresh water which killed our bait and no snook. An added bonus however was being able to see a few manatees playing around close to the boat. At the third creek we fished conditions were much better with giant schools of live pilchards which I cast netted and decided to give up on snook fishing since there was nothing harassing the bait. We ran down to a few wrecks and there we caught a bunch of mutton snapper nice grouper and blue runners that would have been perfect for shark bait but we were not shark fishing today. We ended the day fishing a few spots for Snook and Tarpon which proved to be slow and ended up our full day charter with a few last cast at a snook spot.

Today was my last day fishing with Peter and his friend and boy what a tough day it was. Still dealing with the king tide and lots of wind the water was very dirty. We must have fished about a dozen spots using live bait and artificials and all we could manage was a stingray. Pretty disappointing and I'm just waiting for this king tide to go away. Capt. Am report My morning trip was with a regular client Matt and his ten-year-old daughter Diana. Since they usually book me during Tarpon season we target Tarpon but today we would change it up a bit. We started looking for Tarpon and although we found a few there weren't many and fishing for them was slow. Changing it up we caught Barracuda, a bunch of jacks, Snapper, blue fish and a couple of other species ending the trip on a high note.
Pm My afternoon trip was with Peter from the Czech Republic and his friend again. I had to reschedule all my charters this week starting Tuesday because of severe weather with lots of rain and wind. Today was the first day we got a break in the weather and with some bait we had already caught during my morning trip we headed down to the flats. On the flats the water was definitely cleaner and we had a good day since we were shark fishing we hooked five, landed two and enjoyed some great weather for a change.

September 22, 2017 Fishing Reports

September has certainly been a trying month with hurricanes and Sloat business because of the hurricane and it's aftermath. However things are starting to pick up and today Amir and mark from Houston join me for half day of fishing while their wives were at a conference. Thankfully these guys homes were spared the floods and made it out just fine. With some live pictures in the Life wall I headed off to the beach to look for the mullet migration in hopes of cast netting some and enjoying some Tarpon action but there no mullet to be found off the beach so we fish and other spot where there were tons of big jacks and some carpet. After having our fill of jacks a school of mullet move through but the tarpon wouldn't even look at them. What is that all about?! We went back out towards the beach looking for sharks and although I marked if you didn't get any fights so we wrapped it up over grassflat where we had to cut it short and speed back in while run a massive rainstorm that cut our trip short. All in all we had a nice day and only made it back about 15 minutes early. Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

September 17, 2017 Report (Video, post Hurricane Irma Charter)

Wow, thanks to Irma today is my first day back on the water after 16 days off! I can't remember the last time I was off for such an extended period of time. Anyway, I was eager to get back to work today and Brian from NY was my client. He was here for a conference that almost got cancelled but it just got pushed back a day. He and I are happy to report that all is back to normal in Miami and South Beach with hotels having full power and businesses fully operational. Our weather was absolutely gorgeous today and with fly rod in hand we began our day. Even 6 days after the hurricane the water was very dirty and the fishing was generally slow but oh the mullet run! The mullet run has begun and we took advantage of it by fishing off South Beach and witnessing schools of mullet getting devoured by tarpon, snook and jacks. This is primarily a live bait game but we used flies and soft plastics and hooked one tarpon that came off after the second jump and then a second tarpon ate the fly but never got hooked. The mullet run is here, I'm ready to hit the water again and capitalize on this annual phenomenon. Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

September 11, 2017 Hurricane Iram Report Video!

It seems like forever since I hit the water as season winds down and then hurricane Irma made things quite exciting for us. So far this month was shaping up to be a decent month business wise and the fishing had been good, and then Irma. I'm not complaining since Irma took a westerly turn and spared us the brunt of her fury unleashing her fury on the Florida Keys and Florida's west coast. I actually made it through unscathed through this nasty storm and am God blessed to say the least. However, there are many more severely affected by Irma so let's continue to pray and assist as we are lead to do so. To the many that text and emailed checking up on me, thank you so much! I am truly grateful for your concern for me and my family. Thank you! Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

I was out of Key Largo's Ocean Reef Club today and had Miron from Dallas on board. We hit a few spots that usually produce an assortment of species and it proved a bit slow although we did caught some shark bait and a few nice snappers for dinner. Well, today our hopes were riding high as we boarded David's 32' Intrepid in order to go offshore and look for dolphin. After loading up with live bait we ran out to blue water under perfect conditions. We ran all over the place looking for weedlines, floating objects, birds, bait and zilch! I decided to drift and found it difficult to find current. Everything from 80'-1000' of water was dead. Yikes! Heading back inshore it turned out to be equally dead and seeing no other boats hook anything around us whether offshore or inshore we deided to lick out wounds and call it a day. Capt. August 22, 2017 Report Video!

Rod had booked me quite a few weeks ago and today was our day to fish. We met up at 10 am because of massive traffic that caused me to be on the road for 4 hours before getting to the marina. Ouch! Once Rod and his son Drew jumped in the boat, the day got better. These were two god guys and off we went to tarpon fish. We found tarpon, not many but we did, but they weren't in the mood. Well, the sharks were and so we live baited some jacks, had a blast with them and then used them for bait. We hooked 3 big bull sharks and landed one about 150lbs. It was good to finally get off the road, have a good day on the water and fish with two good guys. Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

I had my reservations about fishing today because of the lunar eclipse but turns out I was surprised. Paul and his son Thomas jumped aboard again and this time they brought their friend Steve. We started tarpon fishing and that proved to be slow as well as trout fishing but it had been like that for a few days already so I don't think it was a product of the eclipse. We wrapped up the trip at another spot where we again caught a ton of hard fighting jacks and used one for bait. As soon as the chunk of jack hit the water it was engulfed by a big bull shark and Paul was on. Thirty minutes later we got the release on a nice 200lb bull shark right as it was time to head in. Not a bad way to fish on a lunar eclipse!

August 18, 2017 Report Video!

Today I had a great trip with Paul and his little 10 year old boy Thomas. We started off getting some live pilchards and then hitting a tarpon spot but although they were there they were not interested in feeding. Wearing thin on Thomas's patience tarpon fishing we hit another spot and absolutely crushed the Jacks. First fish of the trip was about a 5 to 7 lb Jack and next to the boat a giant Barracuda came and ate it up leaving only the bloody head. Quickly I put the bloody head on a big rod with some wire and dropped it behind the boat in the strong current and just let it sit. As we continued to catch jacks and watching them blow up on our bait the rod went off and we were on. After 150 almost 200 yd run we had to chase the big bull shark down and 10 minutes later the hook was straightened out. Bull sharks 1 us-0. We went back and repeated the process continued to catch Jacks and within minutes we were hooked up to another big bull shark which ended up breaking us off. Well as they say third time's a charm and that was the case as once again a few minutes later we were back on a big bull shark and this one we got to the boat, in the hundred fifty plus pound range. We wrapped up the day continuing to crush the Jacks and absolutely wore out Thomas. He had a blast so did we and we are scheduled to fish again on Monday. Capt. Regular client and super nice guy Bill Hayes jumped aboard today with Eli Whiteside from the SF Giants. We tried tarpon fishing but missed a bite and that was the end of that. We tried a few more spots and had a blast catching jacks. We used some of the jacks for bait and chum and hit a shark spot where Eli got a solid hit but the shark never did get hooked. Local and regular client George brought his two little boys along again today Patrick and Evan. We started off fishing for trout since George wanted to have his boys catch a few and we missed a few bites but trout fishing was generally slow. I decided to make a run down to South Biscayne Bay where we fished one more spot and that one proved to be productive. The boys had their fill with Mangrove snappers and we had a big Barracuda come in a few times but we were too slow to react. However, a school of big bar jacks came through and George hooked up and after a long run, the fish broke us off on structure. Capt. August 11, 2017 Fishing Report Video!

Steve is from beautiful Asheville North Carolina and he brought his two sons along Will and Jay in order to do some shark fishing on the flats. Spot one produced a nice Jack for bait but we needed more and spot two proved to be slow so off we went to a shallow wreck that proved to be a hotspot. Keeping a half-dozen Snappers for dinner and catching more than enough bait for sharks we hit the flats. The first flat we arrived at was slow so we went to another flat where we hooked a nice shark but lost it to a straightend hook. Flat number 3 we hit just right and hooked another 2 sharks landing one about 100 lb right before we had to call it a day. It was a nice trip with some great guys and some cool video to boot. Capt. David jumped on board today with his two kids and the goal was simply to keep the rods bent and keep the kids busy fighting fish. We fished three or four spots and all produced Rod bending action that kept the kids busy and David relaxing. Capt. August 3, 2017 Fishing Report

Today I was in Key Largo fishing the Sheridan House ministries tournament. And on board I had two great guys that were local Anglers. We targeted seatrout since Bob wanted to catch something to eat and target them we did. The first spot was slow but the second spot proved to be the hot spot and we ended up catching and releasing 24 trout in about an hour and a half keeping 10 for Bob's dinner and missing a number of other strikes and losing quite a few fish next to the boat. This was a great day with two great guys and a great tournament.

Some trips go just as expected and some others go even better and that was the case today with Josh his son who were visiting the University of Miami campus and their friend Jeff. They boarded the boat at 4:30pm when tee start time was 3 so they were running extremely late and I still had to be back at the dock by 7. No worries I had already caught some shark bait and since they wanted to hit the flats for sharks that's exactly what we did right away. At the first and only flat we fished we started our chum slick and in the hour and a half fishing time we had we hook 7 sharks and landed 4. It was a great afternoon trip and these guys were absolutely awesome to have aboard. Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

Fergus and his two friends joined me for an abbreviated morning trip of two hours. Since we didn't have a lot of time to work with we hit the first spot where we got a bunch of nice Jack's on light tackle and artificial lures. Then we switched off to trout over the grass flats and caught a couple before we had to head in. It was a nice quick morning trip with three great guys from the UK. Capt. Freddy and two lifelong friends joined me today as they were in town to watch The Real Madrid and Barcelona soccer game. Wie hit the first spot in the morning and absolutely got torn up by jacks with fish on almost every cast and then used some of those as bait and hum for sharks. When we hit the flats for sharks the fishing was solid hooking sharks pretty consistently but losing all of them. At the very end of our trip we hooked into a solid 150 lb shark on light tackle and fought the fish for almost an hour before it broke us off. It was a heartbreaker but I'm sure the guys were relieved to not have to continue fighting that monster on light tackle. Capt. Abel is the agent for Jose, short-stop for the Reds and he boarded this morning with Jose and pitcher Luis. We started with some fast action on jacks which also served as bait for shark fishing later on and then we headed to the flats for some shark week action. After having our fill of jacks as staked off on the flats and hooked four sharks and finally landing one at the end of the trip. It was a fun day and these guys were great!

I made it back to the dock today and that was in itself a victory. Brothers Colby and Blake boarded for a full day of keeping the rods bent. A few tarpon and snook spots were slow so we hit a jack spot and caught the daylights out of them. We then decided to hot the flats for sharks and that lasted all but 10 minutes as severe storms quickly materialised and forced us to call it a day early. The run back threw 45 MPH winds and white out rain conditions for the last 2 miles and it was an adventure. Capt. The fishing finally turned on in Biscayne Bay and Jeri and her daughter Rylee were aboard to reap the benefits. Today was a primarily fly day for Jeri and a spin day for Rylee. Tarpon was on the list and after a few spots with very few fish we changed it up so they could both catch some fish before we moved on to the flats. Jeri kept count and landed 14 jacks on fly with Rylee taking a break after 4 of her own. With bait caught we hot the flats where they each landed a shark before calling it a day. July 12, 2017 AM & PM Reports (Tarpon video!)

A.M. report My morning trip was with Brian and his wife Lenay from Texas who are here for the MLB All-Star game and they wanted to catch snook or tarpon. With a few spots holding Tarpon the last week or so we got some bait and bran to the first spot and had Bates in the water first thing in the morning. It didn't take long for Brian to hook up and nice fish in the 40 lb class that gave us a bunch of jumps in a long fight a medium tackle. After a very cool fight and a bunch of jumps Brian got his fish next to the boat for the release and off it went. On our second attempt Lenay hooks up pretty quickly and also fights for fish in the 60 lb class bringing it to the boat and getting her picture with her fish. What a way to start the morning going to 42 on Tarpon each of them getting their fish and big smiles all around the boat. PM Report My afternoon trip was with Brandon and his son Colby who were also from Texas and here for the MLB All-Star game. We went to a second Tarpon spot for our first fishing spot of the trip and Brandon hooked up a tarp and right next to the boat that ate one of our live baits in awesome fashion. One big jump right next to the boat later the tarpon spits the hook and we're back to square one. Colby caught a nice Snapper at that spot and then we were off because the fishing slow down. Hitting the grass Flats they caught a bunch of trout before having to call the trip early because of severe weather that moved in. Capt. Brian and his girlfriend join me today for a full day of fishing the flats for Bonefish. However conditions were tough once again with prodigal visibility and some significant wind. We caught several species and try different types of fishing waiting for the cloud cover that clear to no avail so we ended up catching Jacks and other species while we waited for the cloud cover to clear. We finally made the decision to hit the flats but with poor visibility to Target sharks instead of Bonefish. We set up and immediately had sharks around the boat which were easier to spot the big brown Shadows then the small silver ghost like shapes of Bonefish. And no time they had hooked six or seven sharks and landed five or six. Right at the end on our run back the cloud cover finally started to lift. Go figure! Capt. July 7, 2017 Report (Video)

Today was day two of Jessie and I decided to make a long run down to the Northern end of Key Largo to find Bonefish since the northern part was slow yesterday. Today conditions were pretty tough with a big tide wind and practically zero visibility. However we pressed on and made the long run down an hour later pulling in to a little Cove that I like under these conditions. Pulling into plus feet of water it was hard to spot fish but we ended up finding about five or six schools having shots at most of them and having Jesse dropped a flight perfectly into a school hooking up instantly only to have the leader break on us. As the tide increased we had no choice but to change tactics and move down to other flats. Jesse wanted to catch a barracuda so we pulled into a barracuda spot and while they were ignoring a traditional Barracuda Lord lawyers in he mediately hooked up to a nice Cuda. We wrapped up the day catching Jack's on Spin and fly and that was a blast! Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

Today is day one of two days fishing with Jesse. We were going to stick to strictly fly for two days and we started off with parpan. Although we found Tarpon we could not get them to eat a fly so we moved on and hit the flats for Bonefish. I fished the Northern end of Bonefish territory in that proved to be slow. We ended the day with several shots at Bonefish but no hookups. Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

Today I fished with local anglers Bob and Johnathan. The last time we fished Bob got a big tarpon, Johnathan lost a bog permit next to the boat and we wrapped up the day with numerous shots at bonefish. But, today was a different day with different conditions. Yesterday the fishing was going off and today with high winds and limited areas to fish we found ourselves on the slow end of a fishing day. While the guys caught some fish, we couldn't bonefish and there were no snook or permit making their presence. We did find some tarpon but they were mixed in with small black tip sharks and the sharks would not let the tarpon get to our baits. We are already planning the next outing. Capt. June 29, 2017 Report (Video!)

The last time Mike and Victor fished with me we had to cut the trip short due to severe weather but today was a different day. With near perfect conditions we decided to do some potluck fishing and that proved to be the right move. For the entire four hours of the trip we did not have to change spots with constant action on hogfish, jacks, snapper and sharks, oh so many sharks! When the dust settled the guys had taken home hogfish and porgy dinners, hooked about 12 sharks and released about 5. What a day! Oh, did I mention we lost a permit to start off the morning? Whew, what a day! Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

June 28, 201 Report

An afternoon trip with Andrew, John and Mike is what was in store for me today and the plan was to bonefish. Picking the guys up at their bay side hotel we made a long run down to the flats and took advantage of the great visibility. The tides weren't great but we worked with them and had a solid shot at a nice permit but as soon as that happened, the tide went slack and there went the bonefishing. We stuck it out for a bit but the tide would just not turn so we turned our attention to the tons of barracudas that were on the flat. Incredibly they were being extra picky and while we did get a ton of follows and 4 strikes we didn't land any. We wrapped up the trip on a nearby shipwreck where the guys caught a bunch of fish and had a blast watching a massive barracuda eat one of their hooked fish right next to the boat! Capt. Sergei from Moscow and his two boys 10 year old Michael and college student Alex joined me today. The goal was to make sure Michael caught plenty of fish and that he did. Our first stop he had his hands full with jacks and snapper and his dad and brother joined the fun as well. The trout fishing was slow but they kept one for dinner. Moving on to the flats for some shark fishing, the sharks were thick bu finicky until one finally committed and got Alex in on the action. After a while Sergei took over and finished the job on the 100 lber allowing us some cool video opportunities. When the shark came to the boat little Michael screamed "This is the best day of my life!". Awesome!

June 16, 2017 Report

This morning was a typical June morning, hot and no wind. With slick calm conditions I knew the tarpon would be active so David and I went to a tarpon spot and sure enough they were there. Fishing aboard David's 32' Intrepid we set up a drift or so we thought. With no wind and no current we were sitting ducks watching helplessly as tarpon rolled just out of range. We decided to change it up and wait for some wind to pick up later in the day. Fishing a different spot we bottom fished and caught a half dozen fish but with time running out and a storm building we moved back to tarpon that proved fruitless since we still couldn't get a drift. After a few days off I got back on the water with local angler Dan. The plan was to fish the slick calm morning for bonefish and permit right outside the marina but the weather had other plans. A brisk 10 MPH wind and a brewing storm that kept following us forced us to change plans and it worked out for us. As we began to target tarpon instead, Dan immediately hooked up to a monster permit and got a career permit right at the beginning of the trip. Can't beat that! After the storms cleared we headed to fish the flats and that proved slow with only a couple of shots at a small group of bonefish and we saw a couple of permit. Congrats on the awesome catch Dan!

After a week of constant rain and storms this was the first day we had with clear weather and regular client Brandon and his friend Scott were able to get in some fishing. We dedicated most of our trip to tarpon fishing and Brandon hooked two fish, the first one about 150lbs and the second about 100lbs. Both came off but the 100 lber was close to the boat ready for a release when the hook pulled. Ouch! The bite slowed and we moved where we found a bunch of tarpon but these boys were not sitting still and were very difficult to fish but the guys aught a few other fish along the way.

PM Sometimes it pays to wait and Tom waited out the storms yesterday and we fished today instead. With fly rod in hand and gorgeous conditions we hit the flats for bonefish where he had a few shots. Then, a school of mudding bonefish appear, I pole into position and Tom drops the fly perfectly in front of the school. I yell "strip, strip!, Tom strips and I hear "I'm on!". The big bonefish began to clear the fly line, the rod bent and then it went limp. Turns out the fly line wrapped around the reel and the fish broke off. Urgh!!! Today was Day 2 with Alec and his brother Kevin and Alec was up to bat tarpon fishing. Pretty early on we got a bite but the fish never got hooked so we pressed on. a little while later the rod doubles over and Alec is onto a nice big Tarpon that gave us some beautiful jumps. Ten minutes into the fight we had the leader release and after a total of 25 minutes the fish estimated at about 150lbs was on its way and Alec had his first tarpon of the season. The fishing certainly died down after that release so we switched gears and ran over to the trout grass flats since Kevin wanted to catch a sea trout on fly. After a couple flats and some slower than usual trout fishing we finally got into some and Kevin landed two on fly and Alec landed a nice 18" trout. Itching to go back to tarpon fishing I told the guys we would wrap it up tarpon fishing and that's exactly what we did. With an hour left in the trip the rod doubled over and Kevin was on the a tarpon again, this one was about a hundred forty pounds and we got the leader release in 20 minutes but still needed an additional 25 to get it next to the boat and get the hero picture we really wanted. It's been a good two days with these guys and I look forward to fishing with them again soon!

April 17, 2017 Report (Tarpon Video!)

Alec is a regular local client of mine and usually brings his brother Kevin from Utah along and that was the case today. The goal was tarpon and I gladly oblige because it is Tarpon season! The morning started off with slow tarpon fishing and while they were a few fish around we did not get a bite. We changed gears for a little bit and then some shark fishing where we hooked four and landed two nice sharks in the hundred pound range. Then I listed to my gut which kept telling me to go back to our morning tarpon spot so we wrapped up the day tarpon fishing again. This is where Kevin hook into a monster about a hundred seventy pounds and finally got the fish to the boat after two and a half hours of a grueling fight. Kevin was tough as nails hung in there and got his first Tarpon and a monster to boot!

April 10, 2017 Report

This is my last trip before going on vacation and Heather and Doug jumped aboard to try their hand at tarpon on fly. The original plan was bonefish but with howling winds the cover provided while tarpon fishing proved to be the best bet. Well, we started fishing a tarpon spot and they wouldn't eat a fly today and we got one hit on the bait rod but no hook up. Geeze! We braved the winds, put Doug at a good angle to the wind and threw flies for trout but they wouldn't cooperate. Not one of my favorite days! Capt. April 9, 2017 Report

This was a trip I was looking forward to with George and his tow boys, 5 year old Evan and 4 year old Patrick. These are the 2 cutest boys you can imagine! We started tarpon fishing with dad but an hour in the boys were at there wits end so we switched off to small snappers for the boys and they tore it up! On the way in Evan had his arm around Patrick taking care of him. AWWWWW!

April 8, 2017 AM & PM Report

AM Report Mike and his little boy Dean joined me along with Asheek. We started tarpon fishing but after an hour the gang started to get restless so we hit some trout flats and caught a bunch of trout then we switched off to another spot where they caught a few more species including losing a really nice mystery fish.
PM Report Guillame and Jess are regular clients of mine and they brought David along today. David said he hadn't fished since he was a kid and didn't know how to fish. Boy, did he have a surprise for us all. While fishing was slow for the rest of the gang, David had the hot hand catching several nice and tasty hogfish along with other finned critters. Way to go David!
