Matt and his son Ryan were with me today to catch some fish and hopefully Matt's first bonefish. Conditions were certainly tougher than forecasted but we pressed on. With a good tide we set up on a favorite bonefish flat of mine and began to chum for bonefish. Ryan released a shark in the process but more sharks moved in and we had several cut offs so we moved off the flat and into the deeper channels for the snapper and grouper action that had been so great just two days before. Today however was much slower. While we did catch fish, the conditions proved to keep the bite slow and not as red hot as just days before. Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com

Day two of fishing with Ed and the gang and the winds were a bit lower and from the south so this gave us an opportunity to fish shorelines a bit. We started on the leeward side of a point and had a school of redfish swimming toward us but they hit a deep trough and dissapeared before we could gt a good shot at them. We moved in to a favorite spot of mine and saw a big snook but no hook ups. We did land a few trout before moving back to the finger channels. Once at the finger channels we discovered the chum bag was missing but we made do with what we had and still caught fish and had a great time. Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com

January 1, 2014 New Year's Day Report

Happy New Year's everyone! Ed, his son, nephew and friend were aboard today to learn the ins and outs of successfully fishing Biscayne Bay. The morning started with a solid 20-23 MPH east winds and a white capped and frothy bay. We started fishing some grass flats for trout and while the fishing was slow due to dirty water, we did hook a few, landed a few more and missed a few more strikes. With the tide now in full swing, we anchored in one of the finger channels and didn't have to move for the rest of the trip. With a hot bite, we went through 72 baits in about an hour. We caught mangrove snapper, yellow tail snapper, trigger fish, mutton snapper, big grunts, large blue runners and red grouper. There were also several big fish that we couldn't turn or lost right at the boat before they were identified. The big heart break was Chris losing a monster that slammed the 10lb class braid outfit, ran about 100' against an almost locked drag only to break him off on the jagged rocks below. What a ball today! Michael, Nicole and Scott were on board today and we had a blast! Conditions were less than favorable with 25-27 MPH NE winds and cloudy, stormy skies but plenty of fish were caught. We started by catching trout on artificial lures along with mangrove snapper and hard pulling jacks. Once the fishing slowed we headed towards the protected creeks and caught more snappers and look downs. We also lost a few nice fish to the rocks below. December 30, 2013 AM & PM Report

What a difference today! No wind and smooth water, I love it! I fished with a good client of mine, David and his friend Joe from Canada. We started by looking for bonefish and permit but the few schools we saw were too far to reach and were swimming away. With a desire to catch fish we targeted tout and had a blast. David and Joe caught numerous trout on artificial lures and with a brief window of sunlight, we were sight casting trout! On the way in we decided to look for bones again and found about six schools and had a few shots but no hook ups. In the afternoon I had the pleasure of fishing with retired military Mike. The trout fishing slowed down but we focused our attention on the oceanside finger channels and caught numerous mangrove snappers including a BIG 5lb mangrove and a 3lb mangrove snapper on live shrimp. Bonefishing was on the agenda today with Alan and his son Jerry. Tried as we may though, no bonefish were caught. We were dealing with high winds and rain but did release a mutton snapper and sharks that peeled line like a bonefish. The day ended in a creek where we lost a big hit on one of the rods. Capt. December 28, 2013 AM & PM Reports

This morning Hugh and Jordan from Australia were on board. While the bonefishing was very slow, we did go to a favorite creek of mine and had a blast on grouper, bar jacks, snappers and some monsters were couldn't keep out of the rocks. Hugh ended the trip by fighting a big bar jack on 8lb test that gave him quite a work out! In the afternoon I fish with Paul from Atlanta and his two kids Kate and Jack in some rater windy conditions. Paul caught a trout on the first cast and we missed a few hits. The day ended with Jack and Kate releasing dozens of fish and having a big tarpon free jump just feet from the boat! Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com
