March 17, 2019 Report (Tarpon Video)

After my last trip I really needed to be redeemed and I had two trips today to get it done. My morning trip was with James and Wesley from Ky and they wanted tarpon. I went back to a spot where the tarpon have been thick and friendly and we hooked 3 and landed two during hour four hour trip including a 45 minute fight with James' fish and about an hour on Wesley's fish. The guys did well and I started to feel better already.
Joel, Travis and Carlos joined me for the afternoon trip and they asked "what's biting?". Tarpon! I took them back to the morning spot and Carlos hooked another nice fish and after a 40 minute fight and tag teaming with Travis, we got their first tarpon. Along the way we missed another bite and, caught a mackerel and lost a big jack that ate a plug as they were destroying schools of bait. Capt. I was supposed to fish with Scott and his son but I had engine problems and had to cancel the trip so I was eager to get out today especially with Rob. He and I always have a blast with today being no exception. I changed it up today and took him to the Everglades where he had never been. I had dreams of snook, reds, tarpon and trout on fly. What we got was extremely milky, dirty water from the last few days of wind and challenging conditions. I had to find clean water so I ran to the gulf and it still took a few miles north to locate cleaner water. Once I did we found some tarpon off the beach and missed a snook and some other fish on fly while catching jacks along the way and having a couple of shots at mudding redfish. Fed up with the tough conditions, we put the boat back on the trailer and launched on the "inside" of the Everglades where we fished pints and had snook follow the fly and catch a few more jacks and snapper. Definitely not an easy day and I was highly disappointed.

Urgh, the weather today was brutal with 25 MPH east winds making things really challenging. Scott and his son Scott jumped aboard with flyrod in hand and we played hide and seek all morning missing a few bites from trout and barracudas. Capt. March 13, 2019 Report

Man I've been busy! Today was a day of mixing it up between small fish and big fish. ALex brought his two boys, 13 year old Michael and 10 year old Eli. The boys wanted to catch small fish first and they did just that, and lots of them! They had they fill with nice sized snappers and then it was time to change it up. I took them to a tarpon spot, located the fish and set up. It took some time but eventually Michael hooked up to a 150lb beast that jumped twice towards the boat with the last jump aimed right at us just 20' from the boat. After a long run the fish came off and we were all catching our breaths. Wow, what a way to end a great day!

March 11, 2019 AM & PM Reports

AM Report A few years ago I fished with Brad and his little girl and had a blast. This time she didn't come along and is 13 already! Armed with fly rod in hand we looked for tarpon and found some but they were scattered and tough to get to eat so after some time after tarpon we bonefished and Brad had a solid number of shots at nice sized bonefish in the little time we had left. PM Report My afternoon trip was with Greg who fished with me last month. This time it was a two boat trip and his wife, and sister and brother in laws jumped in my boat. Since we had great conditions I wanted to show them the flats so off we went. First we stopped off at a shallow wreck where they caught a ton of fish and then we hit the flats. The mistake I made was telling them we hook sharks 90% of the time. This ensured that only one small shark showed up but we did hook a big barracuda.

With his son in town, local angler Kevin wanted to get on the water and spend some time with his son Matt so he called me at the last minute and it worked out since I was open. The conditions were tough with a stiff wind that kept things interesting but we got to the first spot and did well with fish caught on every cast. Afterwards we turned our attention to the flats and Matt hooked a few lemon sharks that kept him busy and us making his life just a bit more interesting! Great job Matt! Capt. March 7, 2019 Report

I fished with David today and long time client Steve joined us. The goal was tarpon and tarpon only so we hunted until we found some. Well, tarpon being tarpon, they weren't in the mood to eat and the guys decided they wanted to try something else so we ran to a finger channel where they catch some fish to end the day on a high note. March 6, 2019 Report

I had a two boat trip today and Sam and Sammy who have fished with me before but today Sam went on the other boat, a bigger bay boat and his friend went with me along with his two boys. The boys wasted no time catching fish and staying busy while I rigged up for bull sharks so dad could have some fun. It didn't take long for the bull sharks to come in and we hooked up but lost it after a 30 minute fight. It was a solid day with lots of fish and some tales to tell.

March 5, 2019 Report (Tarpon Video)

Regular long time client Alain from France was on board today and we mixed it up. Starting with tarpon we found some but they moved out when a big bull starting chasing them. Then we caught snapper and had bull sharks move in but for some strange reason they refused to eat over live baits. We finished off tarpon fishing where Alain hooked one about 140lbs and fighting in for about 15 minutes before the massive fish broke us off on bottom structure. That sucked! Capt. March 4, 2019 AM & PM Reports

AM Report Jeff was back on the bow today but this time it was just him armed with a fly rod. Given the windy conditions we found tarpon that refused to take a fly and then we had plenty of shots at bonefish. PM Report Rob is from the UK and he tried to fish with me last year but I was booked so today I was able to finally fish with him and it was a pleasure! He really wanted to make sure he caught fish so he put on hurting on nice big mangrove snappers. Along the way we had bull sharks move through and 4 or 5 of them came up to eat the bait we had set up for them but they kept missing it and never did get hooked after providing a spectacular show. For his birthday Dylan got to go fishing with his mom Fran and his girlfriend Bethany. The guys were awesome and we had a blast! Starting off chasing bones on fly Dylan had some shots before the girls started to hint that they wanted to fish too. Moving to a spot I like they loaded up on fish and it was bent rods on almost every cast. Then we hot the flats again but for sharks this time. Not long after a big lemon came up, took the bait and Dylan got a 250 plus lb lemon shark after an hour and 20 minutes. Way to go guys!

March 2, 2019 Report

Back on David's boat today and we headed offshore with Steve. Spot one was stacked with fish but using deep jigs we lost the first fish we hooked and on the initial drop. We made another drop and Steve hooked up and landed a barracuda. The third drop was fruitless as the fish had moved on. We trolled a bit with no results and called it a day after a bit longer.

March 1, 2019 Report

Sometimes locals never enjoy time on the water and that is the case with Elliot but his dad Jeff and friend Jerry made sure to change that. The goal was to get them on fish and bend some rods and we did that from the very moment we made a cast. The guys caught plenty of fish before we hit the flats where they tag teamed a big 300lb lemon shark before breaking us off when the line on the reel dug into itself. Urgh! Capt. February 28, 2019 Report

Austin and I have fished quite a few times together but never with his little boy but today I got to meet Bubba. Bubba's a great kid very respectful and just an absolute pleasure to spend time around which speaks volumes to the job Austin and his wife are doing with him. We're fishing out of Key Largo today and hit a bunch of spots having snook redfish and trout chase our lures but always seeming to fall short. It was a gorgeous day and I sure wish Austin and Bubba would have been able to hook the nice fish that we kept running into. After dropping them off at the OCean Reef Club I ran back to the marina alone, stopped off at a spot and landed this nice cuda. Wow, I wish they would have caught it instead!

Local kids Misha Abe and his brother are from Fort Lauderdale and they wanted to do some tarpon fishing and all around scouting out Biscayne Bay. We started off looking for tarpon and found a whole bunch early on but before we got a bite they were gone within 30 minutes. We kept searching for Tarpon throughout the trip but ended up catching some nice Snappers along the way just to keep things interesting and hooking several sharks.

February 24, Report

This was a late start Charter with repeat client Ed and his friends. The first time we first said and I worked at Shoreline for Bonefish and he hooked a big double-digit fish but lost it on the initial long run. After that Ted has been hooked! Today he just wanted to make sure his buddy caught some shower shipwreck top plenty of fish there and then turned our attention to the flats where we were able to charm out some Bonefish state route to be spookier than usual not sticking around long enough to get a hook in them.

February 22, 2019 AM & PM Reort

AM Report Bob and I were scheduled to fish at the end of December but we had 30 mile an hour winds so today was the day we have rescheduled and the goal was Bonefish Tarpon or permit on fly. We had decent conditions and Bob had some shots at Bonefish on the flats and although we came close a few times we came up short. However the highlights for me was seeing this big 30 + pound permit on the flat and having Bob take some shots at it as well. Those fish still make my knees weak. PM Report I afternoon trip was with Brandon Steve and these were great guys. They really wanted to bend some rods and catch some fish so we stayed close to the marina and did well on a bunch of different species including big bull sharks to give them their on the water workout that way they don't have to go to the gym that afternoon.

February 21, 2019 Report

I have to admit when I get to be 83 years old I want to be like Bobby. Greg is a local and his mom is 83 years old and was in town and he wanted to take her fishing so off we went. We tried to get some fish on fly for Greg but that didn't work out well in the meantime Bobby was tearing it up on bait. We did have some restrictions and that we had to keep Bobby comfortable because she's had several back surgeries and we couldn't go fast so we stayed in one spot where we caught a ton of fish and then wrap it up with Greg Landing a massive bull shark at the end. It's always great when you get to accomplish your goals while fishing with some great people.
