January 22, 2019 Report (Bonefish Suicide Video)

Wow, wow, wow! Five years ago Joe and Kim bonefished with me and Joe lost a bonefish close to the boat and had been wanting redemption ever since. Well, today was the day and the deck was stacked against us with dirty water, poor visibility and 30-35 MPH winds. Under these conditions there was only one place I wanted to fish and it was a long run away. So, playing the throttle carefully and getting the best angle I could in the rough water and heavy spray we made it to the land of promise. After a few hours Joe had released a few sharks and hooked 4 bonefish and landed two nice fish. We did it! Congrats Joe, it was a hard tough fight but we came out on top!

One of the great things about my job is the constant adapting that I need to constantly go through whether it's different clients, changing conditions of target species and today was no exception. Today I had Kimberley and her awesome four year old Jonah aboard. This was an awesome trip because Jonah loves watching fishing shows and he was able to live out what he always watches on TV. We went to a spot where he was constantly catching fish and then took mom for a tour of the bay. Great people and great trip!

January 15, 2019 Report

The passion for fishing is truly embedded in our DNA and proof of that was Patrick, Jeremy and Dave who dropped off their luggage in my Jeep on their way to the airport and jumped in the boat. They really wanted just to keep the rods bent and with a hard NW wind, that really was the perfect plan for today's conditions. I can't help my self so I took them to a spot that usually holds tarpon and sure enough, the tarpon were there. I set up up current from them and drifted back some baits only to have a ton of different species constantly get hooked instead. Since the guys were having a great time I switched to lighter tackle and almost went through the 8 dozen shrimp I had. I had them wrap up the trip trying to catch a big bull shark and they were out in full force with 3 to 5 of them around the boat at any given time. However, inexplicably they wouldn't eat anything I threw at them. We did have one brief bite but no hook ups.

Wow, what a morning with Blake and Ken. Working out of Homestead today we were on fish from the moment the boat stopped. It was clear, slick calm and a low tide and while poling into position we found a big permit tailing and finning on the surface. Armed with a fly rod, Blake made a cast but it was off by inches and alerted the permit. The rest of the morning was on fire as Ken and Blake had about 30 shots at bonefish and permit. However on fire it was we didn't get one in the boat for a number of reasons. I must mention that on one cast by Ken he laid it in front of the school, one fish peeled off and slammed it but didn't get hooked. URGH!

Every few months I have the pleasure of fishing with Guillermo and his daughters and today was the tradition continued. These folks are always a blast and they keep me laughing. Guillermo always wants to catch dinner and with a brisk east wind I was limited with where we could comfortably fish. I made a long run down to a usually productive spot but that proved slow as well as a couple of spots along the way thanks to the dirty water being brought in by the incoming tide and rough offshore conditions. At the last spot things got much better and they caught fish on almost every cast so we ended the morning with good action and fresh fish dinner.

What a gorgeous morning today as I made a run down to the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo to pick up Ron and his friend for a half day trip. They just wanted to bend some rods and have a good time and the first spot we got to had some tarpon rolling around us and Ron ended up hooking one for a bit until the hook came free. Tarpon 1, Ron 0. The morning ended in a finger channel catching a bunch of different types of snappers and other fun species.

I got a last minute call from fellow Miamian Jose and he wanted to take his step son Igar out for a day of fishing. Well, the day we were supposed to go had us reschedule for the following day due to weather and boy did we have great weather today! Jose wanted to make sure Igar caught some fish and he did at several of the spots we fished. They had a great time and we got the best weather in days.

It's a common theme when you read my reports "Back on David's boat" and that's where I was today with Joe, Josh, Milan and Vince. They guys wanted fresh fish dinner so we went to a finger channel and they got their fish dinner with the rods staying bend and the group having a blast.

Local angler and regular client Henry jumped aboard with his brother Elizar for an afternoon trip. We went right for a spot I've been fishing and they guys tore it up with tins of snappers and other species. The trip ended with Henry catching a few barracudas that he wanted to catch.

Happy New Year everyone! After a day off I was back on the water with regular clients Corey, Debbie and awesome Riley. The wind was howling so we couldn't get to the tarpon and the permit fishing was slow so we turned out attention to bull sharks where Corey got a nice one and we ended the day with guaranteed sore arms for Corey.

December 31, 2018 AM & PM Report

AM Report Back on David's boat and this time it was Kevin who was on board. David really wanted another bull shark so we set up and before long the bites started to come and we finally hooked one about 250lb. After about 30 minutes and some tag teaming, the bull headed under a boat and with nothing we could do it broke us off. URGH!!!!
PM Report Josh fished with me two years ago and today he brought his better half, Janelle. She hadn't fished before but picked it up quick and was on fire catching the majority of the fish. We caught snappers, trigger fish, yellow jacks and a few more species. In the end there was a new person converted to fishing and she was all smiles.

December 30, 2018 AM & PM Reports

AM Report Andy and Jack have been fishing with me for years now and Jack keeps getting bigger every year. The fishing was definitely slow tiday but we did manage to catch some jacks and snappers as we moved around looking for fish. PM Report Gonzalve really wanted to get his little boy out fishing but I had some time after my morning trip so we took 5 year old awesome Sebastian out and he caught snappers until he gave up and was ready to head in. What a cool trip with an awesome little boy! Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

December 29, 2018 AM & PM Reports

AM Report My morning trip was with Bob, Nate and Brian. These guys were a blast and it started off with one of the guys (I won't mention who) dropping my $300 rod and reel in the water during a cast. Ouch! The guys were good for it and did replace the outfit, thanks guys! The guys caught different species including mackerel which they had for dinner that night.
PM Report Every year Kurt fishes with his kids Claudia and Arturo and the tradition continued today. We ran down to the flats and had a blast watching Claudia land a big barracuda.

Regular client Alex and I fished today and it was tough fishing in the 32 MPH winds. While I've had good trips in this wind, today just proved to be a tough one. Even still Alex caught jacks, sea trout, snappers and lost a really nice fish as well. Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing
