April 24, 2014 Report
Derald and sons Nielsen and Dylon from California climbed aboard for a mixed bag of fish. We started off tarpon fishing and immediately Nielsen hooks up to 90lb tarpon but loses it after the third jump. A bot later, dad hooks up to a big tarpon on fly and after a long fight he lands his 100lb tarpon on fly. We ended the day catching trout.

Greg and dad Rich boarded my skiff today for fly fishing for bones, permit and tarpon. We found plenty of big tarpon rolling and cruising but in spite of some good casts they would not eat. Moving to bones and permit we found plenty of fish and had over 2 dozen shots at bones and about 6 shots at permit but the few that tracked the fly refused to eat.

Tom and Cal were on board today for fishing the flats for the big three (bonefish, tarpon and permit). Last time we fished Cal landed a 10lb bonefish so we were ready for part two. We had some great conditions today and had shots at all three. We started fishing the leeward side of a key and found a few bones but no hook ups. Moving a bit south a string of south bound migrating tarpon pop up and one breaks the school to chase Cal's shrimp but refuses to eat at the last minutes. The day ended with us taking shots at a few more bones, permit and strings of tarpon but they weren't eating well today.

Today I fished with Drew and we were fly fishing for bonefish. We had some nice conditions and had some shots at bonefish on fly but no hook ups. We ended the day taking some shots at a few bones riding stingrays and mudding as we poled off the flat.

For several years now Sid and I have been taking Chloe and Bailey out fishing while uncle Sid is in town from California and the girls are always a pleasure. Idling out of the marina, Bailey got to drive the boat out of the no wake zone while Chloe enjoyed the ride. Once we started fishing the action was constant with a cloud of snappers behind the boat providing the girls with spunky tussles including some that were spunkier than others. Having kids on the boat is always a treat for me reminding me of the great times I have had with my own daughter.

AM Report
The morning started with Ken aboard for a half day of fishing around Key Biscayne. With the lack of heavy boat traffic from yesterday we were on the search for tarpon. We did see a few fish roll and bust the surface but no hook ups. We did have a big hit on one of the rods and it turned out to be a BIG ladyfish that peeled drag on the tarpon outfit. We moved to a flat that holds trout and tarpon and again the tarpon were there, swimming by the boat and occasionally busting on the surface but no hook ups. As we fished for trout Ken hooks a snapper and just a few feet from the boat about a 90lb tarpon rushes in and tries eat the still hooked snapper! What a rush! We ended the day catching several trout around 20" and Ken lost a BIG trout close to the boat as we were packing up to head to the marina.
PM Report
My afternoon trip was with Dave and PY from MA. Both great guys escaping the harsh north winter they've endured this year. A quick run to the finger channels provided steady action on a variety of species including mangrove snapper and a short black grouper. To wrap up the day we worked a few areas for tarpon and while they were present rolling on the surface, no bites were to be had. The last stops were for trout where PY landed a nice trout before we called it a day.

Bob and Bill finished their Sunday morning conference meeting and zipped to the marina for some relaxation. We were looking for tarpon and trout amidst the flurry of boat activity that crowded the north part of the bay today. While there were no tarpon to be found the trout fishing picked up and at one point we hooked up consistently on all three rods. The sea trout have been on the larger side for us with 20" fish rather common now.
