Sammy rocks! That's all I have to say. John and his 9 year old son Sammy joined me today for a morning of fishing inshore and they were great. While the fishing was slow and storms threatened throughout the trip, we still caught some fish and had a great time. There were no snook or big jacks around and the tarpon spot we fished held a few tarpon but the surprise was big trout at the tarpon spot. That's a first! John and Sammy caught a few big trout and sharks before we called it a day.

Brian and his friend Mark and I fished last month and it was tough fishing for sharks. Brian loves sharks and wanted to catch one so that was our goal today. We had some pretty significant wind but were able to make our way to a bait spot that I like and caught some live bait before heading down to the flats. With the live well containing what we needed for the rest of the trip we headed down to the flats and begin shark fishing. Not 5 minutes after setting up one of the rods goes off and Brian is on to a nice lemon shark. Some blazing runs and head-shaking action later we have his first shark of the day, and nice 5 footer. Mark was next and after that spot not producing any more sharks we moved on. The next flat was full of sharks but they were being extremely picky and of the dozen-or-so sharks that moved in we hooked just one which Mark landed. Before the trip was over we fished one more spot and it was full of sharks again but once again they refused to eat. None of my usual tricks worked as the sharks were on edge and not very aggressive. As a side note there were permit everywhere on almost every flat we fished. But focusing on sharks I did not buy live crabs and I was agonizing all day long!

Jumping on board today was Bill Hayes who is one of the coaches for the San Francisco Giants baseball team. They were in town for a three-game stretch against the Miami Marlins and in keeping with tradition Bill and I headed out for a day of fishing. We got some bait and started tarpon fishing where we found quite a few but didn't land any. Bill had never caught a barracuda so that was on the list but before that we stopped off at another spot. At our second spot our baits got destroyed almost immediately with Bill landing a few big jacks, watching small bull shark destroy a big snapper he had next to the boat and having a big hundred pound tarpon take a whack at his big miss and then stare at his bait for 15 seconds just 20 feet from the boat. Pretty amazing sight! Running down to the flats I found a bunch of barracudas but they were very finicky this morning. But patience and hard work paid off and we finally hooked a nice Barracuda that gave Bill a nice fight and some high-flying jumps. We had a little bit of time left before calling it a day and we did some shark fishing but nothing came into our baits so Bill decided to call it early and try to get some rest before their game.

Kevin lives in Utah and usually fishes with his brother Alec who is a local angler and a regular client of mine. The goal for Kevin today was sharks and barracudas since he was bringing his future son-in-law Jeremy aboard and Jeremy had never fished in salt water before. Pretty early on in our charter after catching bait, Jeremy hooks up to a nice lemon shark and after about 20 minute fight releases his first saltwater fish about a hundred pound lemon. We had good action throughout the day with Jeremy hooking up another shark and losing it, Kevin releasing a big 6 foot lemon shark and we also hooked 4 barracudas landing the smallest of the four. Welcome to saltwater fishing Jeremy!

Jeff fished with me a few weeks ago. Today his dad joined him for a full day of bone fishing and permit fishing. We had great conditions but the fishing proved to be slow. We found very few Bonefish but hand some nice tarpon cruising down the slick calm shorelines but we could never get a really good shot at them. Capt. This morning Eric join me for a half-day trip in the morning. It was absolutely my pleasure to spend my morning with Eric as he served 27 years in the Navy as part of a bomb disposal unit.  The fishing started slow with snook or tarpon on the hook but we did lose a tarpon when he destroyed our bait but didn't get hooked. We fished a number of different spots catching sea trout and some nice jacks.  At the end of the day at another spot Eric hooked a nice snook and lost it next to the boat as the fish struggled against the pressure Eric was putting on him. August 5, 2016 AM & PM Report (Tarpon Video!)

AM Report Frank is a school teacher from PA and while his wife was at a conference he hit the water for an abbreviated trip. Spot one was the magical one with rolling tarpon and an almost immediate hook up. After a number of jumps and a dogged fight, Frank got his first tarpon. Awesome! We hit a second spot where Frank caught a few nice jacks and we called it a day.

PM Report My second trip was with Fernando, Gimmie and Andre from Brazil. These guys were a lot of fun and wanted to catch a shark. Hitting the flats, almost immediately we were surrounded by sharks but they were playing hard to get. The guys hooked a total of about 5-6 sharks and landed two. As we moved off the flat a school of big bar jacks moved in and we hook up immediately to about a 15lber. With the fish next to the boat and ready for a picture and release it comes off. Losing two big barracudas later it was time to head back. What a nice day today and a day of missed fish but the drags kept singing and the smiles were plentiful.
