February 6, 2017 Report (Bonefish!)

Jeff and Mark were in town for a conference so what to do when you're in town? Heck, you go fishing! We worked our way South waiting for the tide to turn and in the process they caught trout, mackerel, hogfish and snapper as we were hunting for Tarpon. Once on the flats we focused on bonefish and Jeff got one as two big bones were working across the tide. Congrats Jeff!

February 4, 2017 AM & PM Report

AM Report My morning trip was with Jeff and his wife so off we went with fly rods in hand in search of bonefish. We worked a number of flats and had several shots at bones but no hookups. PM Report The afternoon trip was with repeat court Scott and his friend, also in search of bonefish on fly. The perfect visibility I had during my morning trip deteriorated causing us to delay bonefishing in hopes the cloud cover would clear. In the meantime we kept the rods bent on snapper and trigger fish. When the skies cleared and the tide turned we had a number of shots at bones but didn't hookup courtesy of Murphy's Law. Capt. February 1, 2017 Report (Tarpon Video)

Kent is from Texas and he fished with me 2 years ago celebrating his birthday. Today he was in town for business and took a day to explore more of Biscayne Bay. The morning started with us tarpon fishing and hooking a solid fish in the 120lb range but it came off after the first jump. Urgh!! We moved to the flats since he wanted to catch a barracuda on the flats and began the search. Right off the bat there were schools of barrauda swimming around in 2 feet of clear water. Kent made a perfect cast to the group that was coming in and one of them ate the lure just feet from the bow of the boat. What a rush! A few long runs later the big ‘cuda came to the boat. Hitting a shallow shipwreck had Kent land a few grouper and losing a couple more to the structure. With the tide turning I decided to end the trip tarpon fishing and the decision paid off with Kent hooking another tarpon about 100lbs. After a long fight and a few majestic jumps later the fish was close to being landed when the hook broke! What?! URGH!!! What a way to lose that fish! A few drifts later over the same school didn’t result in another hook up and it was time to head in.

January 30, 2017 Report

Today I fished with regular client and friend David. He had a colleague in town and wanted to get him on some fish. A cold front had passed just two days prior keeping the best tarpon spot blown out with rough surf and a couple of other spots were void of tarpon. We decided to fish a channel that usually produces and while there were fish caught, I was dissapointed by what we caught. Trying to shark fish the flats proved slow so we called it a day aftert fishing one more spot and cathing a few jacks. Capt. January 27, 2017 Report

On-board today was Chris, a local angler and a regular client of mine. Last time we fished about a month ago we jumped on his big Grady-White but faced 30 mile an hour winds and the fishing was absolutely brutal. Today however was a different day as he brought along his granddaughter Nicole and her friend Nick. Also we had absolutely perfect weather with light Southwest winds clear skies and the air temperature in the high sixties, absolutely gorgeous! We invested the first couple of hours of the trip looking for Tarpon and while we found some those fish refused to eat and instead of investing more time we decided to change gears and do something else. Using jigs we caught big Sheepshead, mutton Snappers, bar Jacks and a few other species and then turned our attention to Snook. The snook fishing was shut down however and there were none to be had so we drifted over a grass flat using artificial lures and caught big blue fish, barracuda, snappers and then we decided to head south. With a live well full of pilchards we fished two wrecks and that was really all we needed to do as they were solid. Using the live pilchards we caught about a dozen grouper including two really nice fish, mutton snappers, triggerfish, bar Jacks and Mangrove snappers. It was a great day with great people and I was glad Chris and I were able to redeem ourselves from the last trip! And before I forget Chris that's something very cool on the 2nd wreck. We anchored up with the wreck in sight in eight feet of water and Chris saw two nice groupers sitting on the bottom staring at us. So what did he do? He grabbed small blue Runner out of the live well put it on the hook dropped it right next to the boat and one of the groupers and inhaled it instantly and after a tough fight the grouper came aboard for a picture. So cool!

January 25, 2017 Report

Today I fished with Marc from the UK and his two friends Steve and Dean. Marc and I fished a couple of years ago and had a great time and they were back in town celebrating his 50th birthday. They wanted tarpon, sharks and bonefish and I knew conditions were right with absolutely clear skies and almost no wind. The morning started cool in the low sixties and we made a run over to South Beach to look for Tarpon. After a long reconnaissance of the area there were no Tarpon to be found. We changed spots and found some tarpon and while just a few were rolling there were big schools holding deep but in spite of our best efforts we couldn't get them to eat. Along the way the guys caught mutton snapper, Hogfish, Big Jack's and plenty of sharks. We wrapped up the day over a grass flat catching sea trout before calling it a day with sore arms. I love it!
