April 1, 2017 April Fools Tarpon/Permit
Some guys know how to party and Steve from Canada is one of those guys. Staying in Miami on his bachelor party all he wanted to do was fish. Steve was first up and the first bite of the day was a 40lb permit. Dang Steve! Second bite was for Peter and he landed a 160-170 lb tarpon. Dang Peter! Angelo was up and we changed it up since the guys wanted to catch a few trout. A few trout were caught but Angelo hooked and lost a big 150lb tarpon but lost it on the first jump. The day ended with one last tarpon shot.

This was brothers Will and Carter's first saltwater fishing trip and with a slow tarpon bite, I decided to get them on some other species. They caught some mutton snappers, bar jacks, horse eye jacks, trigger fish and then ended with a blast on sharks.

The Bonefish Bonnies tournament was on the agenda today with Jeannie and Linda. Fly fishing only the bonefishing was tough but got better as we worked north. While we didn't land any, the ladies had quite a few shots including shots at a couple of schools of 50-60 fish each.

Scott and Dan joined me today and we spent the first couple of hours Tarpon fishing on fly and with bait but no bites. We fished a bunch of spots and caught some fish in both but it was generally slow today.

Alain is a regular client and he brought his son and brother Jean to brave some tough conditions. We caught some bait and hit the flats for sharks where they hooked 7 and landed 1. Unfortunately every time Jean touched a rod the shark would come off. The only shark landed was by Ethan. Sorry Jean!

Joe and his wife Carol boarded wanting to bonefish. Turns out my poling platform broke on the run to the flats so we chummed for bones unsuccessfully and I risked life and limb poling a bit. They had a couple of shots at bones and a tailing permit but no hook ups. We ended up on a wreck where Carol out fished Joe. Sorry Joe!

Charles and his son jumped on and we sped off to take advantage of great Tarpon conditions. We found a ton of fish but They had lock jaw so we hit the grass flats and They caught a ton of trout. Nice work guys!

Rich and his wife boarded and off to Tarpon fishing we went. Its been a slow Tarpon season so far and after two hours with only one bite wife says "let's go catch fish!". I couldn't argue with that so we caught some trout before dropping then off at South beach.
PM Report
Jeff and his two boys boarded at the right time Today because as soon as the tide turned the fishing picked up. They caught trout, mutton snapper, hog fish, bar jacks and sharks. Nice way to end the day!
