April 17, 2017 Report (Tarpon Video!)
Alec is a regular local client of mine and usually brings his brother Kevin from Utah along and that was the case today. The goal was tarpon and I gladly oblige because it is Tarpon season! The morning started off with slow tarpon fishing and while they were a few fish around we did not get a bite. We changed gears for a little bit and then some shark fishing where we hooked four and landed two nice sharks in the hundred pound range. Then I listed to my gut which kept telling me to go back to our morning tarpon spot so we wrapped up the day tarpon fishing again. This is where Kevin hook into a monster about a hundred seventy pounds and finally got the fish to the boat after two and a half hours of a grueling fight. Kevin was tough as nails hung in there and got his first Tarpon and a monster to boot!

This is my last trip before going on vacation and Heather and Doug jumped aboard to try their hand at tarpon on fly. The original plan was bonefish but with howling winds the cover provided while tarpon fishing proved to be the best bet. Well, we started fishing a tarpon spot and they wouldn't eat a fly today and we got one hit on the bait rod but no hook up. Geeze! We braved the winds, put Doug at a good angle to the wind and threw flies for trout but they wouldn't cooperate. Not one of my favorite days!

This was a trip I was looking forward to with George and his tow boys, 5 year old Evan and 4 year old Patrick. These are the 2 cutest boys you can imagine! We started tarpon fishing with dad but an hour in the boys were at there wits end so we switched off to small snappers for the boys and they tore it up! On the way in Evan had his arm around Patrick taking care of him. AWWWWW!

Mike and his little boy Dean joined me along with Asheek. We started tarpon fishing but after an hour the gang started to get restless so we hit some trout flats and caught a bunch of trout then we switched off to another spot where they caught a few more species including losing a really nice mystery fish.

Guillame and Jess are regular clients of mine and they brought David along today. David said he hadn't fished since he was a kid and didn't know how to fish. Boy, did he have a surprise for us all. While fishing was slow for the rest of the gang, David had the hot hand catching several nice and tasty hogfish along with other finned critters. Way to go David!

Day two with Scott and today was Tarpon day. We fished far and wide for Tarpon and other species but it was slim picking today. Tough day!

April 3, 2017 Report (Tarpon Video!)
I love Tarpon season and I love April in Miami and now Rohan from Atlanta and his mom love Tarpon season as well. On a quick half day we hit a tarpon spot and 45 seconds after our bait hit the water Rohan was hooked up to a hundred and twenty pound beast that was absolutely insanely furious with him and gave him some blistering runs and amazing jobs. 35 minutes later we had the fish next to the boat and got the leader. Right before the trip was over the rod doubles over again and Rohan is hooked up to another tarpon this one about a hundred and forty pounds and much tougher and meaner than the first one. 50 minutes later and quite a few jumps later Rohan had his second tarpon release and his arms feeling like jelly but the big smile on his face revealed that he is hooked on tarpon fishing. Congrats Rohan!

My morning trip was with Ken and his 2 boys Heath and Cole and the goal was steady action. We ran over to the Port of Miami where we caught a few fish but nothing spectacular however Heath was in for a nice surprise when he hooked up to a nice black tip shark on light tackle and the boys had to tag team the shark to get it to the boat. We tried tarpon fishing for about a half-hour and although they were rolling around all around us we did not get a bite and the kids decided action was a better course. We wrapped it up over the grass Flats where they caught some trout and finished off the day on a high note.

my afternoon trip was with Scott from Maryland who is a regular client of mine. We tarpon fished for a little bit but the boat traffic on a Sunday afternoon in Biscayne Bay was too much to handle so we decided to run south of fish the flats for sharks. On the flats there was a lot of activity but the action was slow never the less we hooked two sharks one on light tackle that absolutely smoked the real and landed a nice lemon shark to wrap up the day.
