Post Christmas Snook Fest! December 26, 2020

After two days off I was back to work with David and his friend Brian on a chilly 47 degree morning.  Although they were up for anything I wanted to focus on creeks and snook.  Using lures Brian quickly hooked and lost a big snook on his first cast.  Then, it was all craziness from then on.  The total tally was a dozen snook released, lost a few and missed quite a few bites in between.  Afterwards we missed the bite on a bonefish and called it a day.  This was a good day!

12 Year old vs Snook December 23, 2020

I had Steve and Drew on board for the second year and Steve just wanted Drew to catch fish.  So, we hit a spot that had been producing snook and well, Drew got his snook that gave him a great fight.  The best part is that Drew worked the lure, hooked and landed the fish on his own.  Very cool!  We wrapped up the trip catching dinner and losing two monster fish that may have been groupers or giant snapper.  Ouch!  Congrats Drew!

Today was not one of the fun days December 22, 2020

I had Rocco and his two teenage kids from Toronto onboard.  The goal was to bonefish on fly and we started off with a couple of spots we could fish in the lee of some breeze.  However, it was time to move and change location so we crossed Biscayne Bay to fish the oceanside flats.  BUT, as we were crossing the wind cranked up to about 20 MPH and made for a tough crossing midway.  The bonefishing proved slow but the wind calmed to about 15 MPH so we fished a few wrecks for some action and while we did have some fun they were not as stellar as they have been.

This Never Gets Old! December 21, 2020

I had a full crew today with Alan, his son and his friend Andre.  I can tell you the days have been spectacular and today was no exception.  We fished a couple of spots using lures and shrimp on jigs but things were slow as I worked my way south.  Once I got to a channel that has been producing lately it was fishing at break neck speed.  First, Alan got a barracuda and then working the drop off of a flat scored on a nice bonefish.  YES!  Then it was game on with the other guys as well as they caught mackerel, porgies, snapper, yellow jacks and more, a total of 8 species in one spot with non stop action.  Once they were worn out I took them to a cool spot for some r and r and headed back reliving a great day.

Kids Fish Fest December 20, 2020

Steven and his boys Raj and Revi were in for a treat as they boarded my skiff this morning.  Steven wanted the boys to catch some fish and have a good experience and well, read on.

With a live well full of live shrimp we fished one spot, just one spot and it was game on from the start!  The kids were constantly hooked up to yellow jacks, snappers, big porgies, a few bruisers that took them to school all the while Steven was working a lure and once he figured out the retrieve it was fish on every cast.  What a morning and most importantly, the kids are hooked!

It's Raining Silver December 19, 2020

Kurt has fished all over the world for bonefish but Biscayne Bay hasn't been one of those places.  So, with that in mind we headed off to bonefish.  At the first spot we saw a few schools but we didn't connect.  The second spot would be a different story as Kurt wound up releasing a nice 8 pound bonefish, his biggest to date.  He had hooked up a few minutes before and with the bonefish starting to roll in I was cool with sticking around but he wanted to try something different.  Something different was a shallow ship wreck that were loaded with yellow jacks, big blue runners, mutton snappers and more all caught on lures.  Nice work Kurt!

Spectacular Two Trips Today December 18, 2020

Wow, wow, wow!  What a day today!  I had two trips today in 55 degree weather and my morning trip was with Troy and 12 year old Alex.  On our second spot the guys slayed the snook and Alex got his first bonefish.  Troy reached a point where it was snook on every cast but Alex ended up catching the bigger ones.  Way to go Alex! Oh, in between snook and bonefish they kept crushing nice sized jacks and mutton snappers.

My afternoon trip was with Bill who wanted to bonefish on fly.  It would be tough since by now the wind was up to 20 MPH.  But first, we hit the morning spot and Bill picked up a couple of snook.  Once the tide reached the point I wanted we went bonefishing where Bill hook 3 on fly and landed one.  Nice!

It was a silver and gold kind of day today!
