More crushed bucket lists!!! May 18, 2021

More wind today and actually even more wind than yesterday as Steve and his daughter Katie jumped aboard. We were facing 20 to 25 mile an hour winds all morning long and although the tarpon would not cooperate I was able to take them to an area out of the wind where they had a blast catching nice drag peeling jacks, big mangrove snappers and a few nice mutton snappers. The big highlight today was Steve catching his 1st snook. Then he told me he had never caught bonefish before. Wait, what?  Oh, let's go for it!  I looked at my watch and realised I had a small window to try to get his 1st bonefish in the boat. Well as it turns out we hit that spot just right and just a few minutes in the Steve was tight to a solid 8 pound fish that was burning up the drag. After numerous long runs I scooped up the big bonefish, Steve got his glory pictures and we headed back with a solid day of fishing. Congrats Steve!

Bucket List Crushed May 17, 2021

We've had some very unusual weather this May so far and both my weekend trips were rescheduled due to high winds so I was glad to be back on the water with Austin this morning. Conditions were still tough with plenty of wind and limited places to fish in order to target bonefish, tarpon and permit that Austin was looking for. Thankfully it didn't take long for Austin to hook a big tarpon just a few minutes into the trip but unfortunately it got us around a piling and broke us off. We really needed redemption and soon after the rod doubled over and Austin was on to a nice permit. After the pictures and healthy release we were both ecstatic at accomplishing a big part of his goal today. We changed it up as the wind kept increasing and Austin was able to land his 1st snook plus he caught a bunch of jacks including solid stud jack that gave him a great fight. This was definitely a good day and got some bucket list fish crossed off!

Father/Son team May 14, 2021

Ned was on vacation in Miami and wanted to go fishing with his son Will. These were great guys and they really wanted some bonefish so off we went. We actually had really good conditions but poor visibility so I took them to a spot that I really like for bonefish and waited. Unfortunately, we only saw one come in and after that with the trip almost halfway over we decided to change gears and do something else. Something else consisted of losing a few snook but overall keeping the rods bet with nice jacks and some other species that were a blast the catch.

Big Girl! May 13, 2021

I hadn't fish with Erich in a couple of years so we met up today and he really wanted to catch a big fish but with slick calm conditions I couldn't help but take him bonefishing. There were quite a few schools moving and he had some solid shots that I thought were guaranteed hookups but the schools of bonefish didn't locate his bait so we left heartbroken, well mainly me. We moved off to a ship wreck where Erich caught a bunch of fish including a few that we kept for shark fishing. With bait in hand we hit the flats immediately hooked up a 7' lemon shark that gave him an epic battle. After the release it was time to call it a day and run back with the mission of big fish accomplished.

This is the way to get the day started! May 11, 2021

Jim jumped aboard and was up for anything.  Well, with the calm conditions we had I couldn't help myself taking him bonefishing.  As I poled along the first flat we blew out a few schools but quickly recovered and went 3 for 3 on bonefish in the first hour.  Wow!  As we continued Jim hooked two more that spit the hook for a final tally of 3-5 in the first 2 hours of the trip.  Changing it up for snook Jim got a nice barracuda instead before we headed back.  Nice work Jim!

She won! May 10, 2021

Today I had Martin and his wife and we were going to mix it up, she would use spin and Martin would be throwing a fly.  This is always a tough deal because things have to work just right and the species we can fish for have to be narrowed down but we did.  Martin had a few on but they came off close to the boat, more than likely nice jacks but one sure seemed like snook.  His wife on the other hand caught a ton of fish including snook that came off next to the boat, mutton snappers, mangrove snappers, jacks and more.  This was definitely a fun trip.

He Finally Made it Down! May 9, 2021

The good is that I was able to fish with Rob again after a year of not seeing him due to the pandemic.  The bad, it's Mother's Day and I have to work.  The conditions today we certainly tough but we stuck to the shoreline outside the marina and got to work.  This was a strictly fly trip and in spite of my best efforts the snook and bonefish were MIA.  Sorry Rob!
