Tiny but an awesome sign July 11, 2022

Elizabeth, her husband and son from Nebraska couldn't be any nicer and they wanted to see Miami from the water and do some fishing.  I took them to a few spots where they caught a number of species but the highlight for me was this tiny bonefish we caught while fishing with shrimp.  This is the smallest bonefish I've ever caught but it made me so happy because it a a great sign that our bonefish population is in great shape and the future is bright.

Dad Daughter Time July 9, 2022

Dad daughter trips are the coolest as they remind me of my daughter and the time we've spent on the boat together.  This morning I was treat to time with Mark and his daughter to do some fishing and get her a shark.  The first spot is all we needed and she had her hands full with small to medium lemon sharks and nurse sharks.

Girl Rocks permit!!! July 8, 2022

Today I had two trips, my morning trip being with local Key Biscayne resident Jose. Jose
just wanted to spend a half day on the water and hopefully catch some fish and he sure
did catching some red grouper, snappers, jacks, blue runners, mojaras and a few more
species before we headed back in for my afternoon trip.

On a mother-daughter vacation Karen decided to book me and get her 10 year old daughter Amelia on some fish. I took them to the same spot I had just fished with Jose on my morning trip and the spot continued to produce perfectly sized fish and action for Amelia. She caught about six different species but the highlight was her catching what I had a funny feeling was lurking around, small permit. The schools move through in the summertime and Amelia was able to hook one and landed it on her own. She is now the envy of most guys that fish the flats. Congrats girl!

Family Fun July 6, 2022

Today was a two boat trip with a buddy of mine and I had Jay and his two girls with me
Anna and Mary. This was a really fun trip. The girls could fish really well and Jay was
an absolute pleasure to fish with. We basically just fished to keep the rods bent for the
girls and Anna was the star catching about six or seven different species while Mary
caught a shark perfectly sized for her at 10 years old.

Happy 4th of July 2022

Happy Fourth of July! I had two cool guys fishing with me today but boy I was not looking
forward to fishing in the Mayhem that is typically Fourth of July in Biscayne Bay.
However getting to the marina I was surprised to find that it was largely empty and our
half day trip turned out to be pretty relaxing with much fewer boats on the water than I
had anticipated. I had two Mikes today with the first Mike being at the dock right on
time and the second Mike oversleeping. The first Mike and I fished for a while around key
Biscayne where he lost a nice snook and caught a couple of red grouper until the second
Mike called that he would be at the boat ramp in 30 minutes. We headed back, picked up
the second mike and hit the flats for sharks. But it was a frustrating situation with
tons of sharks coming in onto the flats but refusing to eat our baits. One Mike got a
bonnet head shark and the other Mike caught a nice big barracuda but we struck out on the
big sharks hundred to 200 pounders.

"Big Chungus" almost died June 27, 2022

LOL  That's the only way to start this report about my trip with Mike and his son Aaron from North Dakota.  The guys jumped in the boat and Aaron had the biggest two piece conventional rod I've ever seen and he called it "Big Chungus".  Hilarious!  We went off to the flats to shark fish and try to catch a shark on "Big Chungus" but dad Mike had the hot hand and quickly landed two on my big spinning rods.  Then, then, then, a nice sized lemon shark tailed on Aaron's bait and he hooked up on his rod.  The whole episode lasted 30 seconds before he got spooled with no way to stop the nice lemon shark.  OK, "Big Chungus" is dead!  Aaron hooked a few more on my rods but they coming off until with about 10 minutes before we had to head in a big lemon eat his bait and we finally got his shark to the boat.  Close call my friend! RIP "Big Chungus"...

Happy Birthday Clarke June 26, 2022

Clarke turned 10 years old today and he was with his mom Nicole and sister Grace.  I have to tell you, this was a great family and they were awesome to spend time with.  Once again, I took them to one spot, a shallow wreck, and never had to move with a number of species coming to the boat keeping the kids busy and happy.  They caught mangrove snapper, yellow tail snapper, grunts, trigger fish and blue runners.  Happy birthday Clarke!
