May 20, 2023

Local clients Maria and Elissa booked me for a half day after almost a year of them working way too much.  They always like to fish for dinner trade fish for mangos with their neighbor.  LOL  The first few spots proved slow with smaller snappers but the last two spots were the ticket and they took home several tasty yellow jacks for dinner.

It just got better! May 15, 2023

Kristin had contacted me a month ago and pre paid for her husband Telby's charter as a birthday gift.  After a few reschedules due to weather today was the day.  Telby wanted to fly fish for bonefish so off we went.  The first spot was the Telby landing four bonefish right off the bat within the first couple of hours and at one point he was hooking fish on every third cast, it was nuts!  From there we fished a finger channel for Kristin but the yellow jacks weren't home so we wrapped it up poling some more for bones.  What a day!

Lem May 9-11, 2023

Lem, he can catch fish and this was our first time fishing together.  Over the course of three days the fishing kept improving slightly and we had great conversations and lots of laughs.  Lem sight casted a huge yellow jack on a bonefish flat, then a big jack crevalle that got eaten by a 12' hammerhead shark just 20 feet from the boat on the flats and then 4 bonefish.  One of the bones was 9 pounds, a real stud.  We were fishing shrimp the three days and crabs for a few shots at permit that didn't quite work out.

Tom's Back! May 8, 2023

Man I was really looking forward to redemption with Tom as the first trip was rough.  Well, today was better.  I made a long run to almost Key Largo in order to change the scenery.  We started off looking for tarpon on the oceanside flats and fished a few flats but the tarpon were MIA.  There were a few other skiffs working as well and I never saw them make a cast or point out fish.  Ok, back to bonefish.  This time it worked out.  I saw a stingray and some flashes next to it so I told Tom to cast.  He dropped the fly just right and was on to a bonefish.  Yes!  After a nice fight we released it.  A few minutes later another sting ray, another cast and nothing.  Then I see a mud and before I can tell Tom to recast he was on.  Turns out the mud I saw was a bonefish eating his fly that was sitting on the bottom.  Wow, that was cool!  We had some more shots and shots at a permit before the day was done.  What a relief!

Kid vs Shark May 6, 2023

Larissa booked me at the last minute in order to get her 12 year old son, Sascha, out on the water.  They were great and Sascha wanted to catch everything so we focused on shark and he landed a nice bonnet head shark.  With the action dying off and only catching small snappers we decided to go for broke and get him a bonefish.  Well, the bonefish kind of cooperated.  Sascha hooked up twice but the bones came off both times and we also missed a few takes using shrimp.

The Grind Continues May 4, 2023

Man this early morning high tide is killing me.  It's been scattering the fish and making them tough to talk into eating a fly but Tom was aboard today we gave it a full day.  I ran all over creation today with few shots and no fish hooked.  The target species was bonefish and we drew a blank. That's it, not much else to say.

Another Double May 3, 2023

My morning trip was with Steve again and it was a repeat of yesterday but with fewer shots at permit and more opportunities at bonefish although it was slim pickings.  This early morning high tide has been rough!  Steve missed a bonefish take and we saw a few flashing and coming to close to the boat but boy were they tough to convince this morning.

The afternoon clients were super chill and really nice, Emmett and Heather jumped aboard with big smiles and off we went.  I asked Emmett what he wanted to fish for and he said "whatever is biting but bonefish would be great."  Oh man!  Ok, off we went and now I had the outgoing tide just like yesterday afternoons trip.  Well, not long into the trip Emmett had his biggest bonefish to date in the landing net.  Ha, the bones were pouring through!  You could see them flashing and swimming and the Emmett was on again with an even nicer bonefish.  Then it was heather's turn and cashed in as well.  Total for bonefish was 4 hooked, three landed and about a half dozen takes and misses.  Whew, how crazy is that!  We wrapped it up catching yellow jacks and they called the trip early in order to get back to an event they had.  Nice!
