Back from vacation September 28, 2023

After a nice vacation I was back to work with local client Arman.  Arman likes to catch dinner but conditions were right for a surprise so I took him to where we could accomplish both.  We had a steady stream of bent rods catching snappers and he quickly got his fill of fish dinner until his rod went off in a weird way.  Ha, I knew it.  After a nice fight he had his first bonefish to the boat and we ended up hoking two more.  Nice!

Bone before the vacation. September 9, 2023

Today I had the pleasure of fishing with Aaron a few days before I headed off on vacation.  It is definitely starting to feel like fall with a bit cooler weather and less humidity plus signs of a few schools of mullet moving around.  I love it!  Anyway, Aaron was armed with a fly rod and we got some shots at bones and eventually hooked up and landed a nice bonefish.  The half day trip went by so fast and before we knew it we had to head back.  I love fall!

Bonefish Every Day! September 4-8, 2023

I had the pleasure of fishing with Ron from Arizona for four days.  The plan was for Ron to catch his first bonefish and realize a dream of his after a friend told him how special bonefish were.  Well, we spent four days bone fishing and it worked out pretty well.  Using a combination of live shrimp on a split shot and live shrimp on a jig to cover more ground as we worked areas I knew they travel in, Ron worked it.  The first two days were tough with each day providing one bonefish per day.  Great, he got one but we really needed more.  Days two and three were a bast with Ron getting a combined 4 bonefish and a permit on the last two days.  so, final tally was 10 bonefish and a permit in four days of fishing.  Ron said he was well pleased.  I am too Ron!

Chad is back August 25, 2023

Chad fished with me 5 years ago and was back today for a full day of mixing it up.  We worked hard early morning to get him his first bonefish but there were snook around so we began by throwing top waters at snook missing a couple of bites and landing a cool jack that crushed the top water lure.  Along the way I noticed we blew out a few bonefish so we switched to buck tail jigs and on the third cast Chad got his first bonefish.  Wow!  We fished here and there for more bones with no more hook ups so we fished a few more spots and ended up sharks fishing on the flats and having a blast doing that.  It was a cool trip with a very cool guy.  Thanks Chad!

Week in Review August 14-24, 2023

This week I had a few father son trips and a fly fishing trip with local angler Dean.  My father and son trips were mainly shark trip and the kids had a blast catching bait and then sharks on the flats.  Fishing has been good generally although the bonefishing hasn't been as solid as I would have liked even though water temps are much better now.  We'll see what next week brings us.

Tank! August 11, 2023

Eric and his son Will booked me for a full day, in August!  They wanted to mix it up but with the conditions we had I told them we would start off bonefishing.  I had to fish a different area than I usually do for bonefish for a few different reasons but we hit it just right and those bonefish were pouring through big time!  This would be a short window of opportunity and they have been schooling in a different area than normal but we were ready.  The guys made some casts at these schools but the bones would move off just enough to avoid our live shrimp.  Another school was moving through and Will made a long cast WAY in front of the school, like 30' in front, and waited.  This time he hooked up and it was on!  A long fight later and some brutal beat down of my reel's drag, Will got his double digit bonefish to the boat.  Wow!  Quite honestly, I can't remember what happened the rest of the trip since I am writing this about a week later and that bonefish was the highlight.  Anyway, it was a good trip and fantastic for Will!

Cool mom! August 9, 2023

Chelsea booked a trip for her boys, 15 and 14 year old hardcore fishermen sons.  This was a cool trip where we caught a bunch of different species and kept mixing it up.  Towards the end of the trip we decided to shark fish with some of the fish we caught and set up on one of my favorite flats on this tide for sharks.  Well, we set the baits out and the chum slick and waited.  Not long after, I see some shadows and tails working towards us in the increasingly shallow water.  Just as I had mentioned a few minutes before to the boys, these were bonefish coming towards us, a gift from God!  Well, I put on a shrimp and cast in front of the school and handed the rod to James.  A hard tap later, the rod bent, the reel started to sign and he was on!  James got to land his first bonefish, we hooked some sharks and tons of smaller fun fish.  What a morning!
