Week Report January1-7, 2024

This has been a solid week with daily trips and weather work arounds.  It's been windy and cloudy in Miami for the most part this week but fishing has been solid.  Most of my trips this week have been with really cool clients that wanted to catch fish and not worry about targeting a specific species.  So, this week has been highlighted by tons of hard fighting jacks, sharks, look downs and a monster mutton snapper.  The beginning of the week was with Bob and Anna and we caught so many yellow jacks they decided to give something else a try as it was fish on every cast and these hard fighting fish will wear you out quick.  Later in the week I had Larry and his two kids and we caught fish at every spot we fished, mainly snappers and big blue runners before they decided to call it early as they had a great time and caught plenty of fish.  Friday I had repeat client Jordan and we had a blast catching tons of jacks on live shrimp, lures and top water.  It was so cool to watch these aggressive fish blow up top water lures.  We tried to look for bonefish but we didn't score.  Saturday I had two trips, a 6 hour trip with Subhi and his brother Zaid then a 4 hour trip with Trevor, Clark and Jared.  It was a really long day but both trips went really well with both trips catching tons of jacks and then sharks on the flats with Subhi landing a monster mutton snapper before we had to run back.  Sunday was the slowest day I had and it was with Travis and Brandon.  We were targeting bonefish and anything else.  With perfect conditions and slick calm wind the first bonefish spot was dead but a tarpon spot held some small tarpon and we were able to throw some flies at them.  Then Travis caught the first sea trout I've seen in Biscayne Bay in a while.  Cool!  At another spot we missed a few bonefish bites and as the weather worsted the rest of the trips a tale of running to places trying to make something happen to no avail.  Not the way I wanted to wrap up an otherwise awesome week but I guess we can't win them all.

December 16-31, 2023 Report

All right finally the worst of the weather for this month was largely over and December 18 was the last day of the High winds and rain. The last two weeks of the December have been really, really good with just about anything we want to catch being caught. This second half of the month I was absolutely swamped with trips and I can't recall one trip that was slow with one surprising exception. The one exception was Scott and his son Logan, where we had absolutely perfect conditions for bonefish, tarpon, permit, snook and anything else you can imagine and yet it was an absolute wasteland with nothing around.  However, with that being the exception fishing has been on fire the second half of December. To emphasize this point, on December 29 I fished with repeat client Kevin and we did really well on a number of different species and wrapped it up landing a really nice bonefish as we targeted them for the last hour of the trip. And then to ring in the new year on December 31 I had David and Kevin, a different Kevin, and we got what they wanted, bonefish and mutton snappers. December 1-15, 2023 Report

The first two weeks of December were pretty tough with almost daily 20 to 30 mile an hour winds, overcast skies and plenty of rain. In one stretch towards the end of the first half of December we got rain for almost 6 days in a row. However, in between the tough weather I was able to get out with some clients and it was actually better than you would have thought. Most of my trips in the first half of December were pretty cool trips just catching whatever would bite and it usually worked out with a variety of snappers and jacks and a few missed opportunities with snook and tarpon. I did have one trip with regular client Ted on fly and spin and it was a brutal eight hours of silence out in Biscayne Bay. I can't wait for this weather to revert back to the typical nice weather we get in December!

Week report November 27-30, 2023

I ended this month super busy and closing it out in a big way. In Monday I had Nathan from East central Florida.  He's been fishing with me for about 5 years now and dang it every time we fish either the weather stinks or the fishing is dead. Well, today the weather was great and with the moon phase I swore the Bonefishing would be on fire. Did you catch that?  Anyway, it wasn't. We had a shot at tailing permit to start the morning and then silence for a while until we went Oceanside and fished the shoreline of an island that usually produces if not for the shear amount of water we can cover.  Here Nathan had a few shots at bonefish crossing along the shore and they wouldn't eat. Then he spotted a single fish over rocks and reef. I poled him into position and he laid the fly just perfect, for a tiny barracuda to eat it in front of the bonefish. No!  Then the little cuda jumps off, the fly drops and Nathan strips. That bonefish rushed the fly and ate it 15'  from the boat. It was awesome and that was our first fish in 5-6 trips. Wow what a relief.  Later on we fished another flat that has been producing at the end of the tide and sure enough they were there, just one school not the numerous schools I've been seeing but Nathan stuck a nice tailing bonefish before the end of the trip. It was awesome!!!   Whew, now Nathan and I can concentrate on fishing since our curse is over.  On the last day of the month I fished with Supin and his parents neither of them had ever fished before. It was a two hour trip and they caught their first fish and plenty of jacks and snappers.  What a month it's been and the season is just starting. Weekly report November 19-25, 2023

 The week of Thanksgiving always finds me busy, but boy this was another level. I had regular client, David and his friend Clay on Sunday for a six hour trip fly fishing for bonefish tarpon permit, and then a four hour trip in the afternoon with another regular client Mike . The morning had us finding a few tarpon which we had some shots at on fly and then losing two bonefish before heading in picking up Mike and focusing on bonefish. inexplicably the same spots that I fished with David and Clay and yielded two bonefish, ended up, proving a bonanza for Mike as he hooked six and landed four. The Following day Monday through Wednesday, Mike and I would fish full days. The first two days were in Biscayne Bay and Monday I looked for live pilchards, blacked out the well and live chummed channels. This was a blast as we watched yellow jacks exploding on the Bait and Mike casting to the schools and hooking up almost instantly on some of his casts. Tuesday was a bit slower thanks to some nasty wind so we decided Wednesday on our last day to fish flamingo in the Everglades. This was a blast as Mike had a ton of shots at redfish riding on top of stingrays and then I took him to the interior of the Everglades. He had not fished this area before, and he absolutely loved it, especially since we fished the mouth of a small creek at the beginning and at the end of our trip inside the Everglades and hooking snook and Tarpon Pretty consistently. At one point he was hooking little tarpon on every third or fifth cast and some snook miked in as well. It was awesome and a blast. Friday after Thanksgiving I fished with David again and today was better as we started off with some shots at permit, and he hooked a tarpon briefly before the jump caused the leader to wrap around the gill plate and cut us off. After my six hour trip with David I was back out again with regular longtime client Ken and his two kids for a four hour trip. We had to fish in the rain for a while but eventually it cleared and the kids had a blast, catching snappers and jacks and blue runners. We tried to bonefish a little bit at the beginning of the trip as we waited for the storms to pass, and although we didn’t hook any bonefish, they caught two big Mojarras which they found pretty exciting. Kids are so funny. The end of the week had me fishing with Paul and we found some fun yellow jacks and big blue runners at first to start the day. Then our hunt for Tarpon and snook proved to be futile, but we wrapped up the day on the flats fishing for bonefish, and found quite a few schools of mudding bonefish. Paul made some good casts but missed the bite on one and got broken off by another bonefish before we headed back in. Wow it’s been a crazy week but the fishing has been a ton of fun. Week report November 13-18, 2023

This week was a mixed bag of bonefishing and just bending rods and having a good time. My week started off with Victor and his wife from Ukraine and the goal was to catch a few fish for dinner which we quickly did catching fun yellow jacks and tasty snappers. Then we switched off and fished the flats for sharks where we hooked up three or four sharks and Victor was thoroughly impressed with the speed and power of lemon sharks in 2 feet of Clearwater. Then I had Benji, Arman and Riley, and it was another fun day of just bending rods and catching a lot of fish. Riley had never caught a fish before and pretty soon she had outfished the boys. Way to go, girl! My bonefish trip was with regular client Ralph, which fishes with me every year right before Thanksgiving and it was a slow start but eventually Ralph caught a 3 pound bonefish and then quickly upgrade it to a much nicer fish to wrap up our quick four hour morning trip. This week has been a lot of fun with a mixed bag of species and fishing being solid all the way around.

Week report November 8-11, 2023

I've been so swamped with charters that's it's been hard to update my reports page one trip at a time so I'll update for the week instead. 

The week of November 8-11 we focused mostly on bonefish and permit and it worked out most of the time for bonefish but the permit were inconsistent early mornings.  

on November 8th I had Charles and his wife fly fishing for bonefish for a 3/4 day and he was able to get his first bonefish and then a few more with 4 in total on fly. 

 On the 10th I had Scott and his son for a 6 hour trip and we had some shots, plenty actually at permit and then switched off to bonefish where the guys caught six in a few hours.  It was actually really good and the guys had a blast. 

On the 11th I had Andrew and today was a tough day with us just getting one bonefish and a small one at that.  Heck, I'll take a bonefish any day but compared to how the fishing has been today was a slow day.  I did notice this week as we got closer to the full moon the fish were getting smaller as the larger sexually mature fish were getting ready to go offshore and spawn.
