September 17, 2014 Report
Regular client David was up for a half day of fishing so we headed oceanside try some bonefishing. We spotted a few schools of tailing bonefish but they were moving quicker than I could pole after them. After staking out for a while and landing several bonnet head sharks we poled around and saw a few wakes climbing onto the flat. David makes a cast and the school moves away, I follow up with another cast and I get an instant hook up! I hand the rod to David and after a few minutes he lands a nice bar jack, not the bonefish we thought they were. We ended the morning chumming for sharks but the current died out on us.

September 12, 2014 Report
After a nice relaxing vacation I was back on the water with John and Thomas in search of a number of species. In the morning I took them to an area protected from the 15 MPH winds and we had calm shallow water for the first two hours of the trip. While we didn't see bonefish as planned, we did have numerous shots at snook on fly. There were also schools of mullet signaling the beginning of fall in Miami, yay! We moved to some shark flats and landed two sharks and Thomas lost a big one close to the boat. The shark adventure had several BIG sharks probably in the 7' range behind the boat but reluctant to eat. However, as we are getting ready to leave and avoid a massive rainstorm just a few minutes from hitting us, both rods go off and then suddenly snap back leaving only massive boils in place of the baits. Two huge sharks hit at the same time but never got hooked. Go figure! Maybe it wasn't a bad thing after all since we would have had to fight two massive sharks in the middle of bad storm. Would've been fun! We ended the day catching seat trout and having a ton of laughs. They told me two hilarious jokes I won't soon forget!

Although on a bad streak, Kim and Joe had come down for two reasons, bonefishing and diving. Unfortunately, both dive boats cancelled on them and day one of their vacation was shot. Day two they boarded my skiff and we headed off for 8 hours of bonefishing. Arriving at the first flat at low tide, there was a school of big tailing bonefish too shallow for me to get to so Joe hopped off the skiff and waded to them. After numerous shots, they spooked and headed off to deeper water. We also had several shots at a big tailing permit but every time we made a pinpoint cast, the fish would move off a few feet and render our cast ineffective, eventually he spooked. Every flat we fished held fish but the shots were hard to come by. At the last flat, on the last 10 minutes of the trip I spoke a big single bonefish and Joe makes a good cast. The fish spooks a bit but does a 180 and looks for the shrimp. I see him nose the shrimp, Joe tells me he's on it and reels like crazy and the fish races off and the line audibly cuts through the water leaving a rooster tail of water behind. After a few long runs, Joe gets the 10 plus pound bonefish close to the boat and just a few feet away the bonefish spits the hook! Ouch!!!! What a way to end the trip with two great people.

John from Tampa was visiting his son Nick who's attending the University of Miami and wanted to spend a few hours fishing. We started at a bonefish and permit flat which also gets visited by sharks as well. Waiting for fish to move through a huge permit shows up and ignores two good casts before it got too close to the boat and spooked. A few minutes later one of the rods doubles over and Nick eventually lands a 4' feisty lemon shark. We moved flats and a BIG school of giant tailing bonefish welcomed us but they made a hard turn and were out of range quickly. Not long after another school moves in but spooked before we could get off a cast. The day ended with John and Nick landing a few more sharks.

Steve from Miami hadn't fished Biscayne Bay before and wanted to experience it first hand. We started looking for bonefish but the few schools we saw were too close for a good shot. Towards the end of the trip we staked our and waited for permit, bones and shark to move through. After a while the sharks moved in but they were acting very skittish and wouldn't eat perfectly presented baits. In the meantime a stingray moves through with a permit riding its back. We made three good casts and all three were refused by the permit. Urgh! Finally the sharks started to eat and Steve ended up hooking four big sharks. The last shark ate 30 minutes before our trip was over and it was a big one. An hour and 20 minutes later Steve releases a BIG 7' about 200lb shark. What a way to end the trip!

Craig and his son Andrew wanted to do some bonefishing and look for tarpon so we started tarpon fishing for the first few hours. After a number of different spots there were no tarpon to be found. Heading to the bonefish flats we saw a few schools of bones mudding and a couple of permit but no hook ups. While staked out we see some sharks move through and sight casted one lemon shark and missed hooking a few bigger lemons in the 6' range and possibly a bull shark in the same size range.

Local angler Gary and his two sons, Jake and Adam boarded today for some shark fishing on the flats. We get to the first spot and immediately see a shark move in and Jake hooks up and lands the first shark of the day. The area is getting hot when a boat runs right over our chum slick and scares everything behind the boat. Urgh! We move to another area and it's slow but we get one bite, the rod doubles over and before the reel starts to scream the rod whips back. The shark cut us off. NO! We ended the day in a creek that produces tons of snapper for me and while it was slow, we did land some fish.
