May 29, 2018 Report
Wow, what a tough two weeks. We've had constant rain, wind and now tropical storm Alberto moved through yesterday. This has lead to a bunch of cancellations so I was glad to be working today. Dino and Vukan from Fishingbooker.com were aboard today and they are great guys. We really wanted to tarpon fish and used up 3 out of our 4 hours to tarpon fish but found a few here and a few there with no hook ups so we wrapped up the day catching trout over the grass flats and got in right as a storm cell was moving over us.
One of the cool things today was that we were able to locate some laid up tarpon and make some casts at them. these are tough fish because they will hold motionless just under the surface sunning themselves and relaxing making an errand cast disastrous.

Day two with Wes and the weather was still tough but fishable. The nasty weather kept us off the bonefish flats so off to tarpon we went. Today was better with more tarpon around but still had lock jaw. We changed it up and caught some trout and other species on lures before heading in beating another storm cell.

The nasty weather continues but Wes and I headed out anyway and got to fish 4 hours instead of the 8 hours we were scheduled for. However, we focused only on tarpon and found a few but they were on a diet. We'll be fishing tomorrow so we'll see what the weather is like.

Today's trip almost didn't happen. My trip was a 1pm-5pm out of Ocean Reef Club and there was lighting and rain all morning. However, I saw a small window and confirmed we were still on so off I went. I picked up my guys with storms all around us and some lighting just far enough to keep us on the lookout. With the poor conditions we decided to shark fish and ended up hooking a few fish including having a 6' hammerhead shark come up in 3 feet of water and try to eat the bait we pitched at it. So cool! As the trip progressed the weather improved and it ended up being a good day.

Walter and his buddy jumped aboard today and we began by tarpon fishing but that being slow we turned our attention to other species and caught some trout. The fishing was tough today and there was nasty weather all around us.

Today I fished with Rick aboard his 23 Albury. We hadn't fished in about two years so it was good to see him again. Onboard were his son Ricky and two friends. We were sticking to tarpon only and put in 5 hours of hard core fishing and while we found a bunch of tarpon, we couldn't get a bite. Not sure what was more frustrating, no tarpon bites or missing an permit bite. Urgh!

Back on David's boat today and he had two guests onboard. The goal was tarpon and as soon as we pulled in to the first spot I saw some tarpon rolling. The guys cast their crabs right at them and we got a solid hook up instantly but the tarpon came off on the first jump. After that they got shy and won't eat so we turned our attention to sharks where we hooked several but lost them all.
