She asked "Why is yours so small?" June 1, 2020 Report Video
It's a tough life being a man and being asked that question. Thankfully for me she was referring to the snook I was catching compared to hers. Whew, what a relief! It all started when my fiance', who's now hooked on fishing, asked me to go back to Flamingo in the Everglades and go fishing. OK, so I set the alarm for 5:30am but when it went off there was no moving her. However, we decided to do an afternoon trip instead and it worked out great. By the time we got to Flamingo, it was windy and the water was dirty but still fishable. She was adamant about using bait while I stuck to lures and the fishing was a bit better than I expected. She got three big snook, two on bait and one on lures and two redfish. I managed about 5 smaller snook on lures. Hence her question! I was glad she landed some really nice fish that she refused to take pictures with and we had a great time. Oh, we ended up at home after 9pm!

'Glades Grand Slam and More! May 28, 2020 With Video
Here we go again! I was excited to get Alec down to the Everglades and have him experience what has been a hot May for snook and reds. Well, knowing what was going to happen we started off looking for trout but it took a few spots because the wind and rain of the last few days had the water looking like chocolate. Once I found clean water he quickly landed a few trout and no the game plan changed. With the tide dropping I began to work some flats for snook and redfish using artificials. I have to tell you, we were suffering from rubber hook syndrome for a stretch here because we lost the first 5 or 6 reds and snook he hooked. Never the less, once that got sorted out he quickly landed a snook and a few casts later he landed a redfish. Dang, grand slam complete and the fishing still wasn't good yet! The rest of the day was icing on the cake as we lost track of the snook released, Alec stopped counting at around a dozen and there were many more after that, got plenty of reds and lost quite a few more fish and missed some amazing strikes. Off day I guess! LOL

Redemption is so sweet May 22, 2020 Report
Fishing is in many ways like life in that we all need redemption and the opportunity for a "do over". That's exactly what I had on my hands this morning with Phil from Miami. He booked me for bonefish as one of his bucket list fish so off to go bonefishing we went. Based on the forecast and tides and all the other stuff we have to consider I told him we would get a late start at 9am. As we ran across the bay the morning was breezy as expected but there was an annoying high level cloud cover that made it tough. Really all it took was one flat, the first flat and Phil got not one but two bonefish and his bucket list fish has been checked off. Whew! I can tell you I feel much better now and really needed a "do over" from yesterday.

The Ups and Downs (May 21, 2020 Double Report)
Today I had two trips, the morning trip was focused on bonefish and permit with Joe who lives in Miami. The whole morning provided us with slick calm conditions under a windless sky, and lot's of opportunities. Schools of bonefish were swimming everywhere and Joe kept taking shots but the bonefish would swim slightly to one side or the other or the cast was off just enough to render it fruitless. On the permit side, there were singles tailing here and there with a few schools mixed in. And wouldn't you know it, the last cast of the day was to a school of about 15 permit that landed just right until they decided to change direction and the follow up cast resulted it the bait flying off mid cast. This one's going to sting for a while.
I had to wait two hours before the start of my afternoon trip as regular client David and his girlfriend Nicole couldn't make it any earlier. But, as soon as they got there we were off to bend some rods. Two wrecks later they had dinner in the cooler and bait for sharks on the flats. Once on the flats were hooked and lost 4 lemon sharks with the largest being about 150lbs that was swimming so shallow for about 30 minutes that the dorsal and tail fins were out of the water. However, before we called it a day one of the rods doubles over and the reel starts to scream to the point we had to chase the fish down a bit. We thought it was a shark at first but then I saw the dorsal of a barracuda and it was HUGE! David got the release of the monster and we called it a day with David smiling the whole way back to the marina.

May 18, 2020 Snookmania Report
I saw the forecast for today and I was truly undecided on whether to fish for bonefish and permit under perfect conditions in Biscayne Bay or fish the perfect tide for Flamingo in the Everglades. Hmmmm, I tossed the idea around in my head and decided to fish the Everglades with John. Well, it worked out just fine thank you! The first spot and a few casts into John throwing a top water lure in about 14" of water got him a massive pop and the rod bent, nice! Minutes later a nice snook came to the boat and it would be the first of many, many snook to get released today. This same spot had produced a ton of redfish a few days ago but they were hard to find today however, I wasn't complaining with all the snook being caught. The next spot not far from the first produced plenty of snook, a few jacks and a couple of trout. So we're less than 30 minutes into our trip and I already have 2/3 of a grand slam. As the tide bottomed out and the incoming tide began to flow we could see redfish cruising in super shallow water but couldn't reach them. After a few more spots I landed a redfish and had my grand slam for the day, snook, trout and redfish on the same trip. This was a very productive all lure no bait day and boy was it a blast!

May 12, 2020 Report
I fished with David last year and he was back in town and he just had to go fishing again. However, I got a text from him at 11:30am asking to fish at 1pm so I had to HURRY! I was out of the house in 15 minutes and met him at 1pm. He had asked to go shark fishing so we did. Getting to the flats it took maybe 10 minutes to hook up and he was on more often than not including catching two different species of shark and a nice barracuda. After releasing one of the sharks he dropped his phone in the water, which was about 2 feet deep and had do jump in to get it. I've never seen someone move that fast! We had a blast and can't wait to fish with David again.

May 11, 2020 Everglades Report (Hilarious Video)
Some people just have that "juju" and my fiance Jeanny has that "juju". On another day off we went down the road to Everglades National Park with her niece and her husband. Valentina and Sandy hadn't fished before and they were really excited, I was too, I love this place. The first few spots were slow but once the tide bottomed out ot was on! Jeanny landed a big trout and refused to take a picture with it while it was alive (see attached hilarious video) while the rest stayed busy losing a few nice fish and catching small sharks and jacks. Then a few spots later the tide started coming in and they caught redfish, snook, sharks and more. However, Jeanny caught a nice redfish and a big snook which means....she got a "Grand Slam"! Sandy and Valentina also caught snook and redfish during a frantic non stop window of about an hour where fishing was on fire. I couldn't help it and I grabbed a bonefish rod with a Mirodine and hooked fish on almost every cast resulting in a grand slam of my own with snook, redfish and trout. Just like that the wind cranked up to about 25 MPH within 45 seconds so we called it a day and headed home reveling in grand slam glory.
