April 24, 2019 Report (Bonefish)

David and Warren fished with me today and we had incredible weather once again. The highlight for me and David was him catching his first bonefish! Congrats David!

Today was a blast with Harry and his two sons Robbie and Tony! We were fly fishing for bones and tarpon and found mainly tarpon but the good number of shots we had didn't result in any hook ups. It's always interesting to me how a day with lots of shots but no hook ups can still result in an awesome day. I hope to fish with these guys again soon, they had me in tears!

I had Sam and Sammy again from Canada and these guys are always awesome. Same wanted to make sure 9 year old Sammy and 6 year old Lilya had plenty of action and they did! I took them to a shallow ship wreck and they tore it up!

April 21, 2019 Report

Well, Sunday in Biscayne Bay is always interesting around Key Biscayne and today was no exception. I had a full day charter with Mark for tarpon and we spent most of the morning looking for them. I found a few just south of South Beach but they came and went rather quickly. Tarpon magic trick? I did find sharks and dropped a bait and Mark was hooked up in short order. With a 4' black tip close to the boat I saw an 8' bull shark chase it down, eat it and got hooked. Wow, what are the odds! Mark and I spent the next 2 hours and 40 minutes fighting the massive fish dodging freighters, cruise ships, tour boats, on lookers, jet skis and more, wow! Once out of the channel the stubborn massive bull straightened the hook and broke our hearts. The day ended on the bridges tarpon fishing but they had lock jaw. I gotta say, Mark is 70 years old and tough as nails!

Jordan jumped aboard today with fly rod in hand with a brisk wind that kept us close to the marina in whatever lee we could find. The wind didn't allow us to target bonefish and the thick cloud cover conformed our game plan. We looked for tarpon and found some hooking one on fly and missing the bite on another. Along the way we also had quite a few bites from big jacks that we were sight casting. Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFIshing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

April 18, 2019 AM & PM Reports

AM Report My morning was spent with Steven and his boy and on a mission to keep the rods bent. We started off hot with a nice jack and spent the rest of the time fishing different spots racking up a number of species.
PM Reports My afternoon trip was with Neil and his son Ronan. Neil and I hadn't fished in years but things finally changed today. The tarpon fishing was slow and we hinted everywhere finally finding them in the bridges where Neil landed a huge jack that wrapped us around a piling and we had to pull off some close quarter heroics. Whew!

April 17, 2019 Report

I was looking forward to excellent fly fishermen George and his son Christian from the UK. The morning started tarpon fishing and missing a tarpon and three hammerhead sharks that would hit out live baits as the guys were fly fishing. Early on we hooked 140lb tarpon but came off. URGH! I hit another tarpon spout and George was on immediately but the tarpon ran through bridge pillings and inspite some heroics, he broke us off. Then, a few casts later Christian hooks up and lands a massive 40lb jack right after landing a 30lb jack! The bonefish were calling so we hit the flats and had a shot at a big permit and some bones.

April 16, 2019 Report

Brad and his son Andy jumped aboard for tarpon and we tarpon fished. Oh did we, going 0-4 and seeing hundreds of them but they would hit our baits and not stay on. At the end of the trip we changed it up and Brad got a nice 30lb jack.

How do you fly fish four guys in a flats boat? You take turns. I met Cale and James on their sportfishing boat in Biscayne Bay and with flyrod in hand headed out. Targeting bonefish we had a good number of shots but things just didn't seem to work out. After 4 hours, I dropped them off and picked up the other two guys, Andy and Ryan. After running to a few spots, Andy had a great shot at a monster permit but the fish saw the boat when it turned to take the fly. WHY????????? Capt. April 14, 2019 Report

Sometimes guides are put in odd predicaments whether it be weather, boat traffic or otherwise. And, today was one of those days. Jose and his friend wanted to bonefish on fly but the wind was howling and it would be tough to fly fish the open flats so we hit a few tarpon spots but unfortunately it was Sunday around Key Biscayne and boaters will be boaters. Our first spot had some tarpon but refused a fly. Second spot had tarpon but jet skis and boats kept running over the fish coming 60' from our boat although they had a half mile of open water around us. Urgh. We finished the day fishing the bridges where we had a tarpon smash a live bait but miss it. I wanna go home! Capt. I always love fishing with Mark and Dom from Canada and today they brought their friend along as well. Mark really wanted tarpon but I warned them the tarpon fishing had been slow and that proved to be true today as well. Changing it up we hit the wrecks and flats and had a ton of sharks behind the boat refusing to eat but after countless shots at barracudas we finally got one.

Well, this was a rough one! Thankfully this was a two boat trip that was part fishing charter and part tour. We had a group that were down on business and wanted to see Biscayne Bay. Our first stop for sharks was desolate so we went ahead with the tour. However, complicating the issue were 30 MPH winds that made it a challenge to keep everyone dry but these folks were great sports and had fun. We decided to give tarpon fishing a try but 15 minutes later they had to go in. Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFIshing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

I had Brendan and his friend with the goal of fly fishing for bonefish. The conditions were perfect and had tons of shots at schools of bonefish but always seemed to come up short. Hitting a wreck to catch shark bait, the guys caught fish on fly and bait. Once on the flats the sharks just would not eat inspite of our best efforts. Crazy as it sounds, it does happen!

April 8, 2019 AM & PM Reports

AM Report Tom has fished with me three times. The first time he had his 5' shark get eaten next to the boat by an 8' bull shark. Last year he got a big tarpon with me. This year however, he was recovering from some bruised ribs so we targeted bonefish. Chumming for bonefish produced small sharks but no bones so we changed it up catching a bunch of snappers and a nice jack that well, brusied his ribs further. Sorry Tom! LOL
PM Report My afternoon trip was with Rohan and his mom. Well, last time we fished they caught two big tarpon on a half day trip and wore them out. Our goal was different this year, they wanted dinner and lots of action. So, we hit a spot and just tore up the mangrove snappers. They kept a couple to take to a restaurant and I took home six. At the end of the trip we hit another spot where Rohan hooked and fought a 30lb jack for 20 minutes but the jack spit the hook next to the boat as I was ready to land it for a pic.

I had Fred today who wanted to fly fish but also wanted to catch fish so we would mix it up. We targeted tarpon and bonefish but not being able to connect we hot a wreck and got a bend in the fly rod.

April 6, 2019 Report

Today was a rough one, but my guys Dan and John made up for it and were awesome to fish with. This was a half day of shark and barracuda fishing with a second boat as part of the trip. Spot one was to catch bait and we did. Then we hit a barracuda flat and caught one and lost a huge one. Off to the flats where we had TONS of sharks behind the boat but most wouldn't eat. We did hook two and lost them both. As we hooked the second one, it was a big one we had to chase. As I tried to start the boat the batteries were dead. HUH? I charge the batteries every night! Eventually the big lemon broke off and I was left licking my wounds. Using the trolling motor battery to start the engine we ran home on time and got back safe. What a day! Capt. April 5, 2019 Report

Today's full day charter was supposed to be a fly charter but the wind had other plans for us so we stuck to spin and bait. Adam and Matt were a blast so we hot a number of spots catching snappers, jacks, and sharks as well as targeting tarpon, permit and other species. I have to tell you, these guys were hilarious and as I always say, "What happens on the boat, stays in the boat."

April 3, 2019 Report AM & PM Reports

AM Report Carig and his little boy were my morning trip and the goal was to get his boy on fish. We had a great time catching snappers and jacks in the lee of the wind and his boy stated several times he hadn't caught that many fish in his life. Awesome!
PM Report Right after my morning trip, regular client George hopped aboard and off we went to tarpon fish. The conditions would have made bonefishing difficult to we decided to go for tarpon. Well, we found the fish and along the way caught a couple of mackerel and missed a big from a hog of a tarpon before heading in.

April 2, 2019 Report

Smokin Joe and Mike from Ohio joined me today for a morning of just bending rods and having a blast and we did both. The morning started with some bonefishing but the high water nullified the calm morning making it tough to find the silver bullets. Shallow wrecks were next on the agenda and that was a blast with both guys catching some fish and we wrapped it up on the flats for sharks. These guys were a blast and I can't wait to fish with them again. Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFIshing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

April 1, 2019 April Fools Report, what do you think?

April Fools everyone. The conditions today could not be more perfect with clear skies, virtually no wind and great people on board. The great people were Raja and Emily from NY and we have fished several time together. With these conditions Raja wanted bonefish and I was more than thrilled about it. So, we hit the first shoreline and immediately started seeing schools of bonefish moving through. After a few shots, Raja got one and broke the ice. What a relief! For the rest of the trip we had more shots but couldn't connect. I love bonefishing!

All I can say is that some guys just don't deserve what they get. I had Ray today and he was as nice as they come and wanted bonefish or tarpon. Well, the tarpon were MIA and so were the bonefish so we targeted other species and drew a blank. Chatting with other guides, that seemed like the theme for the day, slow fishing. Geeze! Capt. March 30, 2019 Report

Somethings you can't explain and today was one of those days. I had Robbie and Keith on board out of the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo and we were scheduled to fish a full day. The guys wanted to catch fish regardless of species but the first few spots were slow. Oh, oh, what's going on here? My 3rd spot proved to be the charm but, well, odd. I fished a mangrove shoreline I have fished for years and caught snapper, grouper and snook, but not today. The guys caught tons, almost 30, look downs. Yes, look downs, its a thing, a fish, an anomalie. I have only caught maybe a dozen in my life and these guys almost tripled that in an hour. How, why, um I don;t know but it was fun and we had a blast. Using some chubs we caught I turned them into shrk bait where we went 0-5 on sharks. What? Yes, hooked five and lost them all. Wow! The guys had a blast and decided to call it a day at the half way mark so we bid farewell and off I went, home, early, after catching tons of look downs. HMMMM.

Well, today was interesting. I had a two boat trip with another guide and it was to be part fishing part tour with the wind howling at over 25 MPH. We tried for sharks and that was a no go with no sharks around. Then we went on the tour and finished off tarpon fishing with tarpon around us but with only 20 minutes left in the trip nothing happened in that time. It was rough out there! Capt. March 26, 2019 AM & PM Reports

AM Report My morning trip was with John, his brother Bob and his 10 year old grandson Jackson. I took them to a wreck where Jackson had a blast, caught a ton of fish and got worn out.
PM Report The afternoon trip was with the Poulos family and 10 year old Louie is always the star. I took them back to the same wreck where again they caught a bunch of fish and then they snorkeled for a while. We hit the flats where Louie caught a shark and called it a day after an awesome two trips with great kids. Capt. I fished with Tom today and his son and had a blast. I looked for tarpon but that was slow so we switched it up and they caught some fish but the highlight was a huge jack that blasted a top water bait and his son fought like a champ until he uttered the words "This will look awesome on my Instagram.". No sooner had he said that, the massive jack broke him off. Wow, that sucked!

Tarpon, let's look for tarpon is what I told Peter and Alexis so off to find tarpon. Well, they made me look bad today with only a few fish around so we changed it up and caught snappers and Peter landed a nice jack on artificial lures.

Back on David's boat and new fish junkie Kevin was aboard. With great conditions we looked for tarpon and found a ton of fish. However, they were on a diet. But, we set up on a school of tarpon that was huge, dropped a bait in front of them and I hear Kevin say, "Oh, I'm on!". Yes, tarpon! Wait, no jumps, long runs down deep. Then, pink breaks the surface and he had a slob mutton snapper that ate the tarpon bait. Well, that was awesome and they had a great dinner!

Back on the water today and today Tim from N.C. jumped aboard. We had a pretty stiff breeze so we decided to ditch the fly rod and use bait. Well, it worked.
