"Big Chungus" almost died June 27, 2022

LOL  That's the only way to start this report about my trip with Mike and his son Aaron from North Dakota.  The guys jumped in the boat and Aaron had the biggest two piece conventional rod I've ever seen and he called it "Big Chungus".  Hilarious!  We went off to the flats to shark fish and try to catch a shark on "Big Chungus" but dad Mike had the hot hand and quickly landed two on my big spinning rods.  Then, then, then, a nice sized lemon shark tailed on Aaron's bait and he hooked up on his rod.  The whole episode lasted 30 seconds before he got spooled with no way to stop the nice lemon shark.  OK, "Big Chungus" is dead!  Aaron hooked a few more on my rods but they coming off until with about 10 minutes before we had to head in a big lemon eat his bait and we finally got his shark to the boat.  Close call my friend! RIP "Big Chungus"...

Happy Birthday Clarke June 26, 2022

Clarke turned 10 years old today and he was with his mom Nicole and sister Grace.  I have to tell you, this was a great family and they were awesome to spend time with.  Once again, I took them to one spot, a shallow wreck, and never had to move with a number of species coming to the boat keeping the kids busy and happy.  They caught mangrove snapper, yellow tail snapper, grunts, trigger fish and blue runners.  Happy birthday Clarke!

The Intro June 24, 2022

I had Luke and his wife today for a half day of fishing the flats.  This is the first time they fished in salt water and we gave bonefish and snook a shot.  The tide was really high making it tough to spot bonefish but even still we had shots at a few schools and have one eat a soft plastic shrimp but didn't get hooked.  When we switched to snook we also had a few hits but they were hitting short and would miss the hook but along the way Luke got a couple of nice barracudas.  In the end, Luke was hooked and loved fishing the flats.

Two Days at the Reef June 16/17, 2022

I worked two days out of the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo and both days were great with great guys.  The guys on both trips wanted to shark fish and that we did with them hooking about 4-5 sharks per trip and landing most of them.  On day two the guys hooked the "shark slam", lemon sharks, nurse sharks, bonnet head sharks and black tip sharks.  Dang!

Family Time June 11, 2022

This morning David boarded with his two boys and all we needed was one spot to keep the kids busy.  Setting up on a wreck inside the bay I had to use frozen shrimp due to a shrimp shortage and it didn't matter.  The kids were on from the first cast catching snappers, blue runners, trigger fish and fighting a 30lb barracuda for about 10 minutes before the hook came free.  The boys were stoked never having caught so many fish.  Nice!

Laid back day June 10, 2022

I was out of Key Biscayne today and had Tom on board to bend rods.  We did just that catching a number of species but focusing on sharks where they kept him busy.

Almost!!! June 9, 2022

I had Michael on board today with fly rod in hand for a bonefish on fly half day.  Michael hadn't touched his fly rod in a few years but he quickly shook the rust off and starting making some really good casts.  We had some shots and eventually I found a huge school of bonefish mudding and feeding like crazy before heading offshore to spawn.  Michael made a great cast, strip, strip, on!  As the bonefish ran he got Michael around a coral head and off he went with our fly and hopes.  Ouch!  Once the tide turned it got real slow before we headed in.
