Finally!!!! July 31, 2021

Man, after yesterday I really needed redemption and Joseph was on board to try and make that happen.  We fished a few years ago and had to reschedule this try three times due to weather but today was the day.  We literally sat in the same area for four hours taking shots at massive numbers of bonefish until he got one.  Yes!  There were at least four other occasions where he made perfect casts and the bones just ignored it.  But, we got one!!!  We had to work hard for it but we got'em.  Congrats Joseph!

Really???? July 30, 2021

Back from vacation and no time to rest as I got in last night and here I was early morning with Jack and Tony.  They wanted to try bonefishing and them change it up but there were constant storms sitting right over the other areas I wanted to take them to so we focused on bonefish.  Ha, this worked out, kind of.  Idling out of the channel it was calm and I see tails right next to the channel.  What?!  I rigged a shrimp, made a cast and Jack was on!  But the fish spit the hook.  The rest of the morning we found a bunch of fish and managed to get 4 more bites but the boys were off their game and missed the bites.  Oh, what could have been!

Not one of those days again! July 18, 2021

I had Jeff on board today and I go on vacation tomorrow so we were on the hunt for bonefish and permit.  Man did we fish hard and all over the place yet it was a dead zone.  There was one flat we found a few bones but that was the highlight of the day.  Dang, this was tough and what a way to go on vacation.  Urgh!!!

Kids Rock! July 17, 2021

Fabio, his son and I had fished a few years ago and today he was back.  The goal was to keep his little boy busy and we did ending the day with catching a cool shark on his own.  Very cool kid!

He's Back! July 16, 2021

Chester Moore was back!  Last time we fished he was able to land his dream fish, a nice bonefish.  This time he came with his wife and we were looking for permit and anything else.  Well, I love fishing with Chester and we went hunting for permit.  That proved slow and there were a few tarpon around but not many,  Along the way he caught his first ever barracuda, a solid slob, his first mutton snapper, some lady fish and other stuff that kept us busy and having a great time.

After a couple of are days off I was back to work with Jordan looking for bonefish and permit and I have to tell you we struggled.  We found some fish and had a few shots but it was definitely not what I expected today.  Part of the issue was the shear number of boats out there as there seemed to be a boat on every flat I wanted to fish.

And the prime fishing rolls on July 12, 2021

The weather here in Miami has been so unpredictable lately, nothing like our typical summer pattern that's for sure and this morning was no exception.  Mike and Wade are such great guys and were in Miami for the singular mission of fishing as much as possible.  With the weather so unstable I decided to stay close to the marina and it paid off.  Mike caught about 8 different species and Wade was not far behind as we looked for tarpon.  Then, I hear "I got him!" and Wade was on to something that was smoking the reel!  Mike asked me what it was but I chose to not say a thing, just in case, but I was pretty sure I knew what Wade had hooked.  After a number of blistering runs and significant pressure on the fish, up came a big permit.  YES!!!  I love permit!  We got the pics, the release and then it was a moment to bask in the glory.  I ended the trip looking for tarpon to no avail only finding three by a bridge.  Wow, what a fish, what a morning and thankfully the weather right over us held up while it was going south quick all around us.

Kazakhstan Meet Bonefish July 7, 2021

I had the day off yesterday thanks to hurricane Elsa but more importantly I hope all our fellow Floridians on the west coast are safe as the storm rolls past them.  With the weather cleared here in Miami I got back to work with a great family from Kazakhstan, Oscar, Madina and they're super cute 6 year old Thalia.  Oscar didn't care what we targeted so we fished all over the place but the fishing was really slow, no snook, no tarpon, no lady fish, snappers.  This was starting to suck.  After catching a small snapper I decided we needed to go all in and bonefish.  Well it didn't take long before Oscar hooked up and got his first bonefish.  Nice!  I felt better and can sleep well tonight.  That was a close call!

This kid can outfish you July 5, 2021

I know things happen for a reason and that was the theme today as this trip almost didn't happen due to tropical storm Elsa.  Valentyn had booked me about a week ago and wanted his 12 year old son Ivan to catch a big fish but there is hurricane Elsa that was supposed to make a mess of things on Monday so we cancelled.  Then Monday morning I wake up and the day is nice.  What?!  I called Valentyn and we were back on.  The first spot was awesome with plenty of fun lady fish eating everything in sight but the highlight was Ivan catching a big permit on his own!  I marked them on my Raymarine, baited Ivan up and told him what to do and then the hook up!  After a long tough fight and some coaching, Ivan had his big permit in the boat.  Wow!  We then fished a different spot for sharks and we quickly went 2 for 3 before having to race back to the marina out running the first Elsa related cell.  Today was awesome!

Fishing on July 4, 2021

Ellis wanted to fish today and boy were the ramps busy!  We had to start at 6:30am in order to ensure I could launch the skiff before the marinas got full, plus I wanted to hit some areas before anyone else did.  I got to the marina at 5:30am and waited for Ellis for an hour but at least I was on the water.  We tried to bonefish and there were tons of fish around but after a few shots the wind kicked up that fishing was over.  Changing gears we moved on and Ellis caught a bunch of snappers and runner on lures and then quickly got three sharks before we called it a day.

Oh so many shots! July 2, 2021

Wow, what a morning and how frustrating! I had Duncan and his dad John on board again today and conditions couldn't be any more perfect.  Calm winds, the water like glass and tons of fish around to throw a fly to.  As I poled them through the permit zone in to the area where there are typically a lot of bonefish we couldn't actually get to the bonefish for all the permit around,  There were schools of permit everywhere but things just didn't work out.  The bonefish situation was similar with no lack of shots or fish to throw at.  This will haunt me.

Father and Son June 25, 2021

Today I fished with Eunice and his son and because it was pretty breezy I didn't want to cross the Bay and beat them up so we tried a couple of different areas for bonefish and snook but it was pretty slow although while we were snook fishing the guys did miss a few bites from snook on artificials. I was really hoping to get them some bonefish but the bonefish won today.

Happy Father's Day June 20, 2021

I was trying not to work today on Father's Day but today was the only day Lou could fish and since he came recommended by a good client of mine I couldn't say no. Lou was so laid back and so cool and the dude can fish but today was one of those days that was absolutely shut down in Biscayne Bay. We tried to look for tarpon and couldn't locate any, we bonefished for a while and didn't see any, then we tried to fish for snook and they had disappeared and although we ended up catching some jacks and snappers it was definitely not at all what I was hoping to show Lou.

Mom and son, who wins? June 18, 2021

Kendall had booked a 1/2 day charter with me in order to take her son Liam fishing. Liam is 8 years old and he is a fishing machine. I wanted to stay away from the bigger tarpon that would be really difficult for him to land so we focused on snook but they seemed to be out spawning already and not at the areas where I typically target them out of the wind. Although it was pretty windy today we did find some areas where Liam caught a whole bunch of different species including yellow Jacks, mutton snappers, jack crevales and more and we had a very cool trip with him staying busy and trying to outfish his mom.

Two fun days June 16/17 2021

I had the pleasure of fishing with Rodney and Lee for 2 days and they were so much fun to hang out with. On the 1st day Lee didn't even want the fish he just wanted to sit back and relax while Rodney did most of fishing and picked up quite a few fish along the way. We had started tarpon fishing but that proved to be slow and the snook were MIA. On the 2nd day we repeated the process but we tried to bonefish for a while and saw a couple of schools move through but it proved to be slow so we turned our attention to just catching fish and had another nice day on the water.

What a start and then... June 16, 2021

This morning I was fishing with local client Alec. He wanted to try fly fishing for bonefish since he has caught plenty of bonefish with me on spin so we went for it. We had perfect conditions and there were bonefish swimming everywhere but it was one of those days where every cast was just a little short. Once that fishing slowed down we tried to target permit but the weather was getting worse and although we poled around in the rain for a while we decided to call it a day..

Double the fun today June 15, 2021

Today I had 2 trips out of the ocean reef club in Key Largo. My morning trip started with Andrew who wanted to break in his new flyrod on a tarpon. We had just about perfect tarpon conditions with cloudy skies calm winds and it was hot and muggy. I took him to my 1st spot and sure enough the tarpon were there rolling all over the place and after setting up on a few different schools Andrew finally hooked up . As the fish ran, a part of his butt section broke off and he remembered that he had been meaning to replace it. Ouch that hurt.

My afternoon trip was with Tim and Mark and these guys were awesome so we focused on bonefishing. Tim hooked a nice fish and got it to the boat but the fish broke off as it got under the boat and by the trim tab. Then not long after Mark hooked a big bonefish but it came off almost immediately. Finally with almost no time left and us having to head in Tim hooks up again and finally gets his bonefish. Close call!

What a great group June 14, 2021

The goal, relax and catch some fish for Lisa, Stina and Marsha.  The weather had settled a bit and allowed me to make a run a few miles south of the marina where the fishing started off good but slowed down.  That seemed to be the theme today, a spot would start off good then slow down forcing us to move around a bit and keep the action going.  In the end, they all caught a nice amount of fish and were definitely relaxed as they kept laughing throughout the entire trip.

Fund day June 13, 2021

Fun day today with Kris and company as we fished out of Key Biscayne and caught yellow jacks, snapper, porgies and more.  The tide was right for tarpon but the wind was a bit much to fish the bridge and the snook were MIA in the protected areas away from the wind.

This was the day June 12, 2021

I had Andrew on board today for bonefish and permit fishing on fly.  The conditions started off perfect for both but we focused on bonefish and it was on fire with tons of schools tailing all around us and Andrew hooking up a number of times and landing a few bonefish on fly.  Once the tide got too high the wind cranked up and the cloud cover began so the permit fishing was slow the rest of the day.

A better day June 11, 2021

Kevin was back on the skiff today with his brother David and they wanted to keep things easy.  Since that was the goal I took them to a shipwreck where they caught some smaller snappers and shark bait and then we hit the flats for sharks.  The first flat for big sharks was slow so we fished a different flat where I find smaller sharks where the guys caught 60lb lemon sharks on light tackle and had a blast.

Not this time June 10, 2021

I had regular long time client Ken and his little girl Gianna today and we started off bonefishing but the flats were really slow.  I took them to a spot where they bent rods and caught some fish including some for shark bait.  Once we got onto the flats we hooked about 4 nice lemon sharks but lost them all.  On the same flat a huge school of bonefish showed up and stayed a while mudding round the boat but it seemed like everything we did backfired.  I made a cast into the school of mudding bonefish and a hound fish ate the bait instead.  Then we made another cast, hooked a bonefish and it came off.  The another shot and the bonefish ate but Ken missed the bite.  Wow, that was rough as we headed back dejected.
