September 28, 2019 Report

I get to fish with great people from all over the world and today was one of those days as John and his 11 year old son Esten from Australia booked me for a half day in the morning. Fishing our of Key Biscayne today I had to buy bait instead of catching it on my own and of course, they never did give me enough but we do with what we have. Live pilchards and live shrimp occupied the livewell but their days were numbered. I tried a good pilchard spot to load up on more bait on the way down to the spot of the morning but nada so we left. Setting up and getting a few liveies in the water as chum, it turned on as Esten caught smaller fish on shrimp and John tore it up on larger fish on live pilchards. We had a great morning with groupers, big mangrove snappers, mutton snappers, yellow tail snappers, trigger fish, yellow jacks and a few blue runners to boot. Once we ran out of bait we hit the flats for sharks and hooked 5 big lemons within the first 30 minutes before heading back in. What a morning! I love fall and it will only get better from here!

September 27, 2019 Report (Bonefish!)

George and his two boys have been fishing with me for years now but since his boys are small we haven't been able to target trophy fish. BUT, today George was alone and we met up at 2pm for an afternoon bonefish trip. He really wanted to try and catch a nice bonefish and I was all in. Well, we hot a wreck first in order to wait for the perfect portion of the tide and got warmed up on snappers and other species on lures and bait. Then, it was time. A short run to the bonefish flat paid off with George getting a 10lb bonefish. Man were we excited screaming and hugging and making total asses of ourselves, but, boys will be boys. Congrats George, on to tarpon next time!

David was on board today with his friend Joe. David had a few snook hits on top water and Joe got a nice couple of jacks on topwater as well. Then, we loaded up on bait and hit a shallow ship wreck. That's all we needed to do. Live chumming got the wreck on fire and the guys caught a ton of fish, almost fish on every cast including mutton snapper, yellow tail snapper, mangrove snapper, yellow jacks and more. After a while of this and watching yellow jacks and mutton snappers bust the surface chasing our live chum and changing the color of the water, David handed me the rod and told me to catch a fish. Well, I hooked a live bait, made a long cats and booom, I was on on! A nice mutton later I handed the rod back to David and said thank you. LOL What a great day!

September 24, 2019 Report (Epic fishing video!)

Day two with Alec today and today we fished with his brother Kevin. These two guys are awesome and it's always a blast fishing with them. We fished out of Homestead today and it was on fire! We started off looking for bonefish but they were MIA. In the meantime there were tons of mullet and pilchards on the migration into Biscayne Bay and fishing around them were snook and jacks. Alec caught jacks on top water and then hit another spoke using bait and Kevin got a nice snook and Alec lost another one. Moving deeper we live chummed and wore out the snappers on bait and lures, lost a number of grouper and landed one. The day ended with more bonefishing where Alec got two to wrap up an awesome day with two awesome guys!

September 23, 2019 Report

It's been a frustrating week and a half down here with constant 30-35 MPH winds and rain which means lots of cancellations. Today was better with no rain, blue bird skies and the wind in the low 20's so regular local client Alec and I headed out and caught some jacks and used them for bait to get him his first bull shark that proved to be just as bullish as their name.

I have to tell you, Katrina from NY is a tough girl. She wanted to go out and learn how to fly fish in saltwater. The issue was 25 MPH winds and rain, almost all trip with 30 MPH winds towards the end of the trip. Wow! However, I took her to a few spots away from the wind where I taught her how to double haul and other tips and she was picking it up rather quickly. After working a few spots she was able to land a nice mangrove snapper and some jacks on fly. Way to go girl!

September 16, 2019 Report

What a great day today with Jeff from Canada. It's starting to look and feel like fall and the fish know it. After having a number of shots at bonefish and hooking 7 tarpon during the mullet run we wrapped up the day landing this slob mutton snapper. Fall is here and so is the mullet run, I'm so excited!

Dan and his son wanted to go fishing before school started so we hit a wreck and that is all we had to do. The fishing was on fire and they got a work out on different species and a nice shark that wore them out.

I had Ron and his wife onboard today with fly rods loaded. Bonefishing was good but we couldn't get a fly out far enough to get them to eat so we changed it up. Targeting other species they caught snappers and other stuff on fly and then a barracuda on spin.

Ed and his son Eddie and I hadn't fished in years so I was glad to see them today. The morning started off on fire with tons of shots at big bonefish and in spite of a bunch of close calls, today just didn't work out. We wrapped up the morning catching a mutton snapper but overall it was slow with the exception of bonefishing. Capt. I fished with David and his friend Kivi. The bonefishing was slow but we did miss the bite on one before turning our attention to sharks where Kivi and David each got one on the flats.
