June 29, 2017 Report (Video!)

The last time Mike and Victor fished with me we had to cut the trip short due to severe weather but today was a different day. With near perfect conditions we decided to do some potluck fishing and that proved to be the right move. For the entire four hours of the trip we did not have to change spots with constant action on hogfish, jacks, snapper and sharks, oh so many sharks! When the dust settled the guys had taken home hogfish and porgy dinners, hooked about 12 sharks and released about 5. What a day! Oh, did I mention we lost a permit to start off the morning? Whew, what a day! Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

An afternoon trip with Andrew, John and Mike is what was in store for me today and the plan was to bonefish. Picking the guys up at their bay side hotel we made a long run down to the flats and took advantage of the great visibility. The tides weren't great but we worked with them and had a solid shot at a nice permit but as soon as that happened, the tide went slack and there went the bonefishing. We stuck it out for a bit but the tide would just not turn so we turned our attention to the tons of barracudas that were on the flat. Incredibly they were being extra picky and while we did get a ton of follows and 4 strikes we didn't land any. We wrapped up the trip on a nearby shipwreck where the guys caught a bunch of fish and had a blast watching a massive barracuda eat one of their hooked fish right next to the boat! Capt. June 22, 2017 Report (Video)

Sergei from Moscow and his two boys 10 year old Michael and college student Alex joined me today. The goal was to make sure Michael caught plenty of fish and that he did. Our first stop he had his hands full with jacks and snapper and his dad and brother joined the fun as well. The trout fishing was slow but they kept one for dinner. Moving on to the flats for some shark fishing, the sharks were thick bu finicky until one finally committed and got Alex in on the action. After a while Sergei took over and finished the job on the 100 lber allowing us some cool video opportunities. When the shark came to the boat little Michael screamed "This is the best day of my life!". Awesome!

THis morning I had Ryan and his wife Michelle from Oregon. This was a hide and seek trip, hiding from the rain and seeking fish. Our tarpon fishing lasted about 15 minutes before a storm chased us away. Running away from the storm we fished for trout and while we caught some, another storm developed over us and we got rained on for over 45 minutes. We wrapped up the day tarpon fishing where they developed lock jaw.

June 16, 2017 Report

This morning was a typical June morning, hot and no wind. With slick calm conditions I knew the tarpon would be active so David and I went to a tarpon spot and sure enough they were there. Fishing aboard David's 32' Intrepid we set up a drift or so we thought. With no wind and no current we were sitting ducks watching helplessly as tarpon rolled just out of range. We decided to change it up and wait for some wind to pick up later in the day. Fishing a different spot we bottom fished and caught a half dozen fish but with time running out and a storm building we moved back to tarpon that proved fruitless since we still couldn't get a drift. June 15, 2017 Report (Permit video!)

After a few days off I got back on the water with local angler Dan. The plan was to fish the slick calm morning for bonefish and permit right outside the marina but the weather had other plans. A brisk 10 MPH wind and a brewing storm that kept following us forced us to change plans and it worked out for us. As we began to target tarpon instead, Dan immediately hooked up to a monster permit and got a career permit right at the beginning of the trip. Can't beat that! After the storms cleared we headed to fish the flats and that proved slow with only a couple of shots at a small group of bonefish and we saw a couple of permit. Congrats on the awesome catch Dan!

June 9, 2017 Report (Tarpon!)

After a week of constant rain and storms this was the first day we had with clear weather and regular client Brandon and his friend Scott were able to get in some fishing. We dedicated most of our trip to tarpon fishing and Brandon hooked two fish, the first one about 150lbs and the second about 100lbs. Both came off but the 100 lber was close to the boat ready for a release when the hook pulled. Ouch! The bite slowed and we moved where we found a bunch of tarpon but these boys were not sitting still and were very difficult to fish but the guys aught a few other fish along the way.

We've had some tough weather the last few days and today started off ok and got worst quick! Will is a retired MLB player and was aboard today taking a break from calling the Marlins/Diamond Backs game. We started tarpon fishing and that proved slow so we switched it up and he caught about 6-8 species in short order but that slowed down as well and the weather was starting to take a turn for the worst. We quickly caught a few trout, saw a nasty storm approaching, looked at the radar and called it a day 2 1/2 hours into our 4 hour charter. Capt. Today was one of those when the fish were all over the place and Owen and Lisa were able to experience it. We fished five spots and 4 of the 5 held either bonefish, permit, or redfish. We had plenty of opportunities but with casts being off just a few feet there were no hook ups although a few of the casts were on the money and we got a big refusal. At one spot we had school after school of big tailing bonefish tailing just 30 feet away! Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

May 13, 2017 Report (Tarpon)

It's the day before Mother's Day and Todd and Marjorie joined me for a day on the water. Being experienced anglers and having never caught a tarpon, I had my goal. Moments after setting up Marjorie says "I think I have something!" only to see a 150lb jumping like crazy. An hour later we had the release and off to the flats we went. Unfortunately visibility was poor and fishing was tough.
