June 17, 2016 Report (Permit!)

Bill and Pierre are from N.C. and had booked two days of fishing in S.C. but gale force winds caused them to cancel and head south.  On our half day trip this morning we had breezier than normal conditions but caught some Ladyfish while we waited for the tide to turn.  Once it did Pierre hooked a Tarpon on artificial lure but it broke off when we had it next to the boat.  A bit later we got two hits and one hook up.  Turns out it was one of the species we were targeting, permit!  A nice fight later we got Bill's big permit to the boat.  Congrats Bill!

June 14, 2016 Report

With typical summer conditions awaiting us, Nick got in 6 hours of fishing before his flight back home.  With fly rods in hand we targeted the big three bonefish, Tarpon and permit.  Finding lots of Tarpon they refused to eat with little consolation that none of the other guide boats were hooking up either.  Hitting the flats we hit the flats and found schools of bonefish that started too far off for a shot but found lots of permit.  Nick had a number of shots at permit including tailing fish but no hook ups.  Capt. 11 year old Zoe jumped aboard this morning with her parents Michelle and Greg. Right off the bat she said she wanted to catch a shark her size so off we went looking for sharks. The first one didn't produce any sharks so we went to a second spot to catch bait and immediately Michele lands a nice big jack that we would use for bait and chum. Making a quick run down to the flats I staked out and put out the Jack as chum and bait and not long after we saw a nice shark move through. Grabbing the rod and pitching the bait in front of it but it refused to eat and kept swimming. However a few minutes later one of the rods doubles over and Zoe is hooked up and a nice fight later with help from dad she got her shark and guess what it was her size! That was awesome!

Well Earned Vacation!

I had the pleasure of fishing with some clients/friends of mine in New Brunswick Canada and had an absolute blast. Here are some pics. It had rained for 3 days over the mountains and the Restigouche River was 7 feet higher than normal and dirty. Needless to say the salmon fishing was slow.

Corey, Debbie and their awesome dog Riley are regular clients of mine from N.Y. and Corey was celebrating the end of his medical residency. We started tarpon fishing and found quite a few fish but no bites. Switching off we fished grass flats and caught some fish on artificial lures. Unfortunately, right when the fishing was about to go off, we could see the schools moving in, a pod of porpoise moved in and wiped out our fishing. Capt. June 3, 2016 AM and PM Report

AM Report My morning trip with Jack was great today with tons of action where ever we went. Starting on a grass flat, he caught trout and a few more species. The trip wrapped up at another spot where it didn't take long for Jack to hook into an 80lb spinner shark and land it after a tough fight.
PM Report The afternoon trip was with Nick from England and we caught the last of the outgoing tide where he caught a nice barracuda and other species while we tarpon fished. The tarpon appeared and vanished within minutes giving us just a brief window to fish for them.

June 1, 2016 Report

Aboard today was regular local client and fly fisherman Steve. The goal of today's trip was very simple, just to catch some fish on fly and I love these kinds of trips because it gives me a lot of options. We started off looking for Tarpon but with the exception of seeing two rolling fish it was extremely slow so we didn't put a lot of time into that and changed it up. Fishing some grass Flats Steve caught a couple of nice trout on fly but it was still slower than I would have liked so we ran down to the Bonefish Flats. The first flat was slow but the second flat had a nice group of about 15 to 18 Bonefish in the eight and nine pound range. Steve made a great cast put the fly right in front of them and worked it back, the fish had an interest in it but never committed. Ouch! We wrapped up the day on the grass flat just a mile from Steve's home where he caught lady fish, blue fish, trout and Spinner sharks on fly. It was a great way to end the day!

May 28, 2016 Report

Today I was out of the Ocean Reef Club fishing with Grant and Carrie. Grant and Carrie wanted some rod bending action so I took them to a little channel that I like with the last of the outgoing tide and we kept the roads been and the drags peeling including Grant losing what was probably a very nice grouper to the bottom. When the tide turned we spent a little bit of time shark fishing but with none of them showing up they decided to call it a day early and head back to the Ocean Reef Club to relax.

May 27, 2016 Report

Jason from Jacksonville wanted to catch mutton snappers, not 12" snappers, big mutton snappers so off we went. The first spot was close to South Beach and although we caught a few fish there were no muttons around so we decided to change it up. We spent a little bit of time fishing some grass last for sea trout and although we caught a couple, it was slow so we decided to get back on track and focus on muttons. Making a long run south we got to the area that I like and it became a very frustrating endeavor as we ended up losing 6 big muttons to broken lines but mostly pulled hooks. At one point we could see two big muttons close to the boat and not committing to the bait. What a frustrating day, good action but no results! He did land a nice big barracuda on lure that gave him a nice fight! Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing
