January 25, 2018 Report ( Crazy video finale! )

Well, yesterday we had a nice day on the water weather wise, today not so much. We had steady 30 MPH winds and gusting higher as Jason and Robert jumped into the skiff and we idled out of the marina. I took them to a permit spot protected from the wind but no one was home. There was only one other spot I could take them to and it paid off. Here the guys caught some nice jacks on lures and then a massive 8 foot bull shark that took the guys an hour and 50 minutes to land. Watch the video for the craziness and a surprise ending. Capt. January 24, 2018 Report ( Video! )

Back on David's boat we had his nephews Jonah and Charlie. Again, David really wanted them to experience shark fishing so shark fishing we did. We hooked several spinner sharks, 9 or so, and landed none. What? Well, when spinner sharks jump they tend to wrap the line around themselves and break off but the guys had a great time and experience the brown fury of Miami shark fishing.

Today I had a cool client on board, Maura from CT. She wanted to chase bonefish, tarpon or permit but with 68 degree water and high winds bonefish was going to be our best bet. We got to one of my favorite spots and had a few schools move in and on one of them Maura finally hooked up. As I was stretching to net the bonefish the hook pulled and the dude swam free before we got the photo op. URGH!!!! The rest of the trip was slow so we headed in at the end of our 4 hour trip. Capt. January 21, 2018 Report

Jack is a local angler and we had fished before some years ago and he called me at the last minute for a quick morning trip with his wife and grand son Josh. They wanted to focus on food fish and fish we did. We fished a number of spots and while they caught fish the fishing was slow due to a sudden weather change and dropping water temps. All the snappers they caught were on the small side so we chalked it up to a slow day and headed in. Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

January 20, 2018 Report

I was joined today by Steve and his wife and they were part of a 3 boat trip I had organized. Steve had never fished before and his wife hadn't fished in 20 years so forget tarpon and sharks, let's keep it simple. So, off we went to the grass flats and they had a blast catching trout. These guys were great and Steve mentioned how he can see someone getting hooked on fishing since it was so much fun. Way to go Steve!

January 19, 2018 Report

Today I was back on David's boat with Steve aboard along with Steve's girlfriend. The goal was simple, David really wanted them to get a shark and there were tons of them. After hooking a few we finally had a solid hook up and the tag team of Steve and his girlfriend worked well until David stepped in and closed the deal. With sore arms they decided to cut the trip short and we ran back as they relaxed. Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

January 18, 2018 Report

Well, today was an easy name day as I was fishing with cousins Kent and Kent. How about that? So, of we went and caught trout, jacks and searched for tarpon but with a steady breeze the tarpon were hard to reach. The day ended on a high note with the guys catching a ton of fish and Kent beating out Kent by quite a few fish, I just say which Kent. Capt. January 14, 2018 Report

Local Chef John join me today and it was cold! Temperatures in the morning were in the high 40s but we pressed on. Tarpon fishing was very slow and we didn't hook any permit so we changed it up and targeted some sharks. Although there were tons of them we could not buy a bike so although we caught a few fish it was a very frustrating day today. Capt. January 13, 2018 Report

Today fish with local Angler and regular client James. During my vacation in Miami we had considerable cold fronts in the water temperatures were really low today. With that being said we tried a number of different options in all was slow but we did manage to catch some Snapper and dinner for James and ended up hooking 8 sharks.

Today was my first day back on the water after a long vacation in Tennessee. I was glad to be back because we experience temperature between 9 and 12 degrees in Tennessee and my Miami blood is not used to that! Working out of Ocean Reef Club today we Chase Bonefish around but only had a couple of shots however with plenty of sharks around they made for easier targets in my guys ended up having fun with a few of them.

January 1, 2018 AM & PM Report (Video)

AM Happy New Year! Jude was back on board today at 8am, tough kid, ready to redeem himself from our last trip when he lost a big bull shark. Today we targeted tarpon but they wouldn't feed so we quickly switched off to sharks and he had a ball hooking a number of them and landing a couple. Way to go Jude! PM Pierce brought his son along for my afternoon trip and with shark fishing being so good in the morning and the tarpon spots blown out we targeted sharks. Well, it didn't take long to hook up and we did quickly and often. After his son landing his shark, tough kid!, Pierce focused on getting one and that was an epic battle. After losing a few he finally had a solid connection and after an hour fight I knew it was a big bull shark. Well, towards the end of the fight the reel failed and I had to handline the shark to the boat, an estimated 200lb bull shark, while Pierce turned the spool by hand in order to take up the line. We got the beast next to the boat, took some pics and broke him off. All this while a cruise ship was barreling towards us. Whew!!!! Now, it's time for a vacation. See you guys in 10 days! Capt. December 31, 2017 Report (Permit video)

AM Report The streak is over and just in time too! I can breathe a sigh of relief and have new hope for 2018! My morning trip with David and his friend Stephen was full of obstacles and time constraints, suffice it to say that out of a 4 hour trip we fished about 45 minutes. However, we got it done. At the only spot we could fish given our time constraints I had a feeling there were some permit around so we pulled in to the spot, dropped a crab, put the rod in the holder and immediately the rod doubled over. Stephen grabbed the rod and 15 minutes later he had a slob permit to the boat, his first and the best way to close out 2017. Way to go Stephen! PM Report After finishing up my morning trip and enjoying the glory of catching a permit (My favorite fish) I picked up Jose and his kids 7 year old Fernando and 4 year old Camila. These are the cutest kids and Jose is a great dad! We had so much fun and laughed so hard as Fernando was struggling to catch fish (refusing any help) while Camila was tearing it up with dad and offering to help Fernando. What a way to end 2017, great fish and great people. I love my clients and my job! Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

December 30, 2017 AM & PM Report

AM Report Toomy and Patrick are part of a family get together that consisted of 50 family members, and that was just a small part of the family since they have 300 cousins! WOW! They were part of a 6 boat charter and I took them to the beach to look for tarpon. Once again the tarpon were there but today they were on the move! These guys were in big schools but were heading north at a brisk pace so we had to locate the school, set up in front of them, cast, wait for the school to pass then repeat. In the process we hooked two tarpon but they both came off. The last stop was a grass flat where the kids caught a bunch of sea trout and had a great time!
PM Report I had fished with Haroldo and his brother Diogo from Brazil last year and they had a great time so when their friend Felipe was in town they were kind enough to recommend me to them so Felipe, his dad Luis and friend Andres fished with me this afternoon. They wanted to experience some big fish and with tarpon conditions being poor so late in the day we hot sharks. I'm, glad we did because it was on fire. The guys hooked almost a dozen sharks and they each got one, well, not Andres poor guy. We worked hard to get him one but it was not to be. Well, done guys!

December 29, 2017 AM & PM Report (Tarpon Video)

AM Report Bob and his son were my morning trip and they were great! We ran the beach for tarpon since we finally had some good conditions and hooked four tarpon losing all of them. What a bummer! There are a lot of tarpon off the beach and the fish have been very cooperative. We ran back inshore for the balance of the trip where they got a big bull shark after a tough 40 minute fight. These guys were great and I love watching dads spend time with their kids. PM Report Here we go, jumping on David's boat again for my afternoon trip and I was holding my breath. He wanted to target sharks for his guests and we did. Thankfully the sharks were thick and we hooked 5 in short order. Although we lost all 5, it's hopefully the start of lifting the dark cloud that has lingered over his boat. Capt. December 28, 2017 Report

Local angler and regular client Guillermo jumped aboard today with his two daughters, Bibi and Paola. The fishing was slow in the creeks for snook since the tide was too low so we hit some wrecks where the action was non-stop and wrapped it up catching trout although the trout fishing was slow.

December 27, 2017 AM & PM Report

AM Report I'm starting to get concerned here with David's boat. We fished on his boat today and the fishing was absolutely dead as Joe and his crew experienced. I'll give you more insight into why I'm concerned in my report below. PM Report My afternoon trip was with brothers Daniel, Mushy and Benji. Incidentally, they are the nephews of David's friend Warren who had caught some nice tarpon with us last year at this time. In any event the fishing was red hot with the boys having their hands full with bend rods right from the get go. And this is why I'm concerned with David's boat. Maybe someone put a hex on it? Maybe it's fish mojo has run out? I don't know but today proved to me one very comforting truth, "It's not me, it's you"!

December 26, 2017 AM & PM Report

AM Report My morning trip was with Ian, his brother Peter and his nephew Jude and being from England they wanted to catch different species. We hit one spot and that is all we needed. Here they had a blast catching jacks until some bull sharks moved in. This is when Jude had a blast as he is the angler in the family and hoked a nice bull shark that we were able to sight cast. After a long fight the bull jumped clear out of the water and broke him off. It was time to end the trip at this point and we headed back. Jude was amazed at the size and power of saltwater fish in general, especially sharks.
PM Report My afternoon trip was with Dale and his son and our trip was a repeat of my morning trip bu we added sea trout to the list of species caught.

December 24, 2017 Report

Merry Christmas everyone! I had a short trip today and my guys wanted to fly fish. We ran the beach for tarpon but they were MIA so with the time we had left we targeted sea trout but that was also slow. We ended up taking advantage of the tide change and caught a ton of nice jacks on flies and spinning tackle including having a blast catching them on poppers.

December 23, 2017 AM & PM Reports

AM Report Todd and his son have fished with me in the past and joined me today. We tried to target tarpon but it was too breezy so we did something else. Staying close in to avoid some of the wind in open water we focused on fishing shallow wrecks where they caught a bunch of snapper and had a great time. PM Report My afternoon trip was with David and the hot fishing continued with the guys catching a variety of species including sharks. Capt. Well, its been cold in Miami and today Mary joined me for a cool morning on the water. Mary is a Dr from CT and a really good fly fisher woman. We hit tarpon first and they were there but wouldn't eat a fly. After about 30 minutes they vanished and we left. The trip ended on grass flats where Mary caught some trout on fly. Capt. Alex was onboard today again and we caught some trout and returned for bull shark fishing. This time we were finally able to get him his bull shark and check that one off the list. Way to go Alex! Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

December 17, 2017 Report (Video)

Today I was fishing with regular client Alex and today he wanted some action, especially what he'd been reading in my fishing reports, a big bull shark. Off we went, caught some bait and hooked up several times. The last hook up was one we were able to keep on the hook and fought it for about an hour until the big bull shark got us around a bridge piling and broke us off. Urgh, so tough! Capt. December 16, 2017 Report

Jean-Yves boarded today with his wife and we did a bit of potluck fishing changing it up a bit from wreck fishing to trout fishing. The conditions weren't great for tarpon so we had decided to mix it up. We caught trout, snappers, jacks and a few more species. Capt. December 15, 2017 Fishing Report

I was back with David on his boat today with a few boys from his synagogue and off we went to been some rods. We looked for big bull shark but that fishing was slow so we changed it up and headed south to a couple of fishing spots that produced Big Time for the boys. Here they learn to cast and bait their own hooks. In the end they were more thrilled at the new skills they learned than the fish they caught. Smart kids! Capt.
