February 26, 2020 Report

Today was a tough day for sure! The forecast was calling for 20-25 MPH winds out of the south so I held my breath and told Jeff to meet me in Homestead in order to use the shoreline as shelter and bonefish on fly as he wanted. Well, well. I got to the marina and it was calm with no wind. Go figure! Hitting all my bonefish flats proved fruitless except for a shot at a permit. Ok, no problem, I'll change it up and hit some wrecks. Which we largely void of fish. Along the way Jeff did get a big trigger fish on fly which he had targeted unsuccessfully on the flats of Belize. That was cool but I would have rather him catch bonefish on fly! Urgh!!!!

February 25, 2020 AM & PM Report

I had Barry on board again today and we went straight to tarpon and permit but we had the opposite tide this morning so our spots were limited. I looked far and wide for tarpon but most of them were sitting on the bottom unwilling to move, much less feed. Once we got the first movement of outgoing tide they moved a bit but not much which resulted in no redemption from our last trip and losing a massive permit. In the afternoon I had regular client Josh and Janelle for a laid back abbreviated trip. Their goal was to catch 1 fish to make sure we didn't get skunked and continue the tradition of always catching when they book with me. With not much time to work with I took them to a nearby spot where they went through 6 to 7 dozen shrimp in no time catching snappers and jacks with some nice snappers thrown in for good measure. Long time client Alain and I headed out for 6 hours and our first stop was slow, our second stop was slow, our 3rd stop was slow. Oh oh! Our 4th spot produced some jacks and Alain being a shark junkie, that's what we turned our attention to. Right off the bat he hooked and landed a 30lb barracuda and then it was on! At the end of the trip he had hooked 7 sharks and landed 2 as they were being jerks and would break off or spit the hook. Nice work Alain!

February 23, 2020 Report

Wow, what a blow! I had to cancel my trip yesterday with Maria due to a cold front and 40 MPH winds. With the weather clearing I had Paul on board and he was up for anything so we warmed things up with some jacks and then when the tide was right we tarpon fished. Tons of tarpon were all around us and they were practically tail slapping out baits but to takers. I thought this through and decided to employ a trick. It worked and Paul was on to about a 100lb tarpon! A few jumps into the fight and Paul fighting it like a pro, the hook pulled next to the boat. WHY??????? I asked Paul if he wanted to change it up and the answer was "Nope, I rather tarpon fish than catch anything else." He's hooked. After much searching we finally found some by a bridge but time ran out before we got a hookup.

February 21, 2020 AM & PM Report (Permit Video!)

Well, here we go with Paul and Will from NY. These guys are great and they are always a blast to fish with. Last year Will landed a massive bull shark with me and this time i had tarpon on my mind after getting them warmed up with some smaller species. I found a bunch of tarpon rolling but they were being tarpon and not eating but persistence paid off with a bent rod and screaming drag and after a nice fight Paul got his first permit. Nice, congrats guys!
Dropping off my morning guys I picked up Barry and headed for an afternoon trip. Again, I had tarpon on my mind but only after Barry caught a bunch of snappers and with the tide nearing the end I ran and hit a different tarpon spot from the morning trip and fished a school of tarpon. Well, a massive permit beat the tarpon to the crab and Barry fought the monster permit for about five minutes until the hook pulled. NOOOOOO! Capt. February 20, 2020 AM & PM Reports

Man have I been busy! Today I had two trips and my morning trip was with an awesome angler and client, Maria. She can throw a fly and we decided to keep the fly rod bent and go for bonefish in two days when we are fishing again. After hitting a couple of spots that were slow I took no chances and his a wreck where Maria had a blast catching 6 or 8 species on fly. So cool!
My afternoon trip was with John and Leo from Canada. The goal was to get them on some fish and keep Leo busy. Well, we fished two spots that produced and we kept Leo busy, and John too! The last spot held some jacks and after catching a few smaller ones on lure John landed a slob jack that kept him busy for a while.

February 19, 2020 Report (Permit Video!)

Will and I have fished a bunch before and then he moved to NY but he was back and as soon as he knew he was coming back he called me up and booked a trip. Will just wanted to relax and catch a few fish but with the tarpon starting to move in I had other plans. We hit a few spots and caught snappers, jacks and mutton snappers. But, now it was time. With the tide at the right stage I took him to a spot that has been holding tarpon and sure enough, they were there. We floated back two baits and let the do their thing and we waited, then it happened. I saw a slight movement of the rod tip, and then it doubled over and Will was on! Fifteen minutes later we landed a monster permit for Will and called it a day as we ran back to the marina engulfed in permit glory!

Eric joined me today for a 4 hour trip to keep the rods bent and we did. Finding snappers and jacks we went through almost all the bait in short order and caught some on lures. Wow, this trip went by so fast! Capt. Mo Estevez www.miamiboneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

I had a blast with twin brothers Brian and Ryan. They wanted to mix it up between fly fishing and spin fishing so we did just that. Starting with bonefish they had a few shots but not many so we changed it up and hit a wreck where they caught a bunch of fish on spin but they wouldn't hit a fly. At the end of the day we had a blast, the guys talked smack to each other and kept the rods bent.

February 14, 2020 Report (Bonefish Video!)

Wow, it's Valentines Day and the weather could not have been more perfect! Mike was celebrating his birthday today by going fishing and I had the pleasure of being his captain for a full day of bonefish on fly. The first spot as loaded with fish but the tide was extremely low so after having to get off the boat and push a few times the party started and it was school after school for about an hour. After a few close calls but no hookups we hit another spot and it was game on! Fishing a great winter time spot there were more bonefish and permit than you could count and here is where Mike got two bonefish on fly plus snappers, yellow jacks, look downs, blue runners a shot at tarpon and plenty of shots at permit. What a great day with a great guy!

I get so many cool people on my boat and today I had a really cool guy, Bernard from France with fly rod in hand. We searched all 8 hours for bonefish and they were MIA, this is a very rare occurrence but it happened today. So, in order to break it up we fished shallow ship wreck and Bertrand had a blast catching a bunch of species on fly. The trip ended with more searching for bonefish to no avail. WHat a tough bonefish day but Bertrand was great!

I had Ed and Dave today, long time friends from NY and we had a blast. As novice anglers they just wanted to catch a few fish. Well, they did more than that as they tore it up in spite of the wind. In the end, we used up all the bait right as we ended the trip and the guys had a blast catching pompano, mackerel, jacks, snapper, small grouper, yellow jacks and more. Some tarpon moved in and we fished for them for a while but they were on a diet and didn't want to play.

February 4, 2020 Report

Henry is back! Henry is a really cool guy and local client that books me a lot but he'd gone missing for a few months but he was back with Jake, Teddy the Shiba and Vidi. Henry likes to catch fish and there's no doubting that so with 7 dozen shrimp we hit the first spot that was dead. They made the comment that I always take them to the slow spot first and the second spot is always awesome. LOl Crazy guys! But, they were right! The second spot was on fire and since he loves jacks they were thick! Double hook ups were common and we had several triple headers along the way. Well, once we went through 7 dozen shrimp in what seemed like a few minutes I tied on lures and the craziness continued. What an afternoon!

February 2, 2020 Report

Well, well, it's Super Bowl Sunday and a cold front moved through making for great super bowl weather this evening but cold and windy this morning for my trip with Joe and his daughter Maddie. I've fished with Joe before aboard my client David's boat but today he booked me on his own and his daughter had never fished before. I made a short run in the chop and cold wind but 10 minutes later we were at spot one, not so much away from the wind but definitely where the fish were yesterday. After a few casts and no bites I started to be surprised and thought it was the dirty water. But, a few minutes of persistence lead to Maddie's first bite and then it was on! I started with about 7 dozen baits for our 4 hour trip. Well, Joe and Maddie were done 2 1/2 hours in and ready to head in just as I was down to 10 baits. It was hot fishing in spite of the cold weather and they caught: Mackerel Pompano Bluefish Jacks Lane Snapper Mangrove snapper and a small grouper Way to go guys!

February 1, 2020 Report

A real nasty storm moved through last night casting doubt on today's trips but he morning was nice so Andrew and his son Jack jumped aboard and off we went. They were in town to attend the Super Bowl (spoiled!) so they jumped aboard for a brief 3 hour trip with the goal for jack to catch jacks. Spot one was slow, spot two was great with the guys catching jacks, pompano, bluefish, mackerel and snapper. They decided to end the trip early after 2 and a half hours and called it a day so they can attend super bowl related activities. What a great day with the bonus being getting back to the dock before the rain moved in.

January 27, 2020 Report

It's been pretty cold down here in Miami with cold fronts rolling through every couple of days. Today I was fishing with David on his new 24' Pathfinder and the water was glass calm. We bought tons of live pilchards and headed offshore for kingfish and mackerel but the morning already had an ominous tone. I asked my bait guy for an offshore report and he told me there was no current offshore, no current means no fish. Well, we tried it anyway and there was zero current every where we went and the boats around us never hooked a fish. So, we fished a few spots and it was slow all the way around but David did get a cool false amberjack along the way.
