March 16, 2018 Report

These guys were a blast today with dad George and his two sons, Jordan and Blake. Blake was playing hurt having his finger in a splint but we still gave him grief for losing a bunch of fish. Eventually he caught up and the guys caught a ton of trout, bluefish, jacks, ladyfish and then we hit the flats. On the flats we targeted sharks and barracudas and while we hooked four sharks we landed one and had a bunch of shots sight casting barracudas.

AM Today I had two trips in my first one was with John, Lauren and Nick from Ohio. I thought it was cold yesterday morning but Teddy was worth with the air temperature at 48° even my photos from Ohio or cold. We decided to do the best we could with the cold in the wind we had so we pulled up to a grass flat and using only lures absolutely wore the fish out. Lauren started off a little shaky with her Casting a fishing but she made a great comeback and had an excellent day.
PM In the afternoon I had David and Joseph. We had a good time so we hit a couple of spots for Tarpon and permit but didn't see any so back to the grass Flats where we kept the rods bent and the lures in fishes mouth.

Rob was back on board today with fly rod in hand. We had some tough conditions although we had great visibility the water temperatures were pretty low after the cold front that swept through a couple days ago. However we hit the flash for Bonefish on fly and while there weren't many fish around each flat had at least three or four big fish in the 9 to 12 pound range. We had great shots all day but fly fishing for Bonefish is fly fishing for Bonefish so we had a few tracks and a few looks but no takers today. Capt. Pete brought his sons Vic and Leo aboard for a quick morning trip. I only had two fish one spot in that spot was on fire with the boys catching their fill of fish and Pete going over 5 on Tarpon. It was so frustrating we could see the tarpon come up eat and then spit the hook before we had a chance to come tide on them. All in all it was a great morning and these guys rock!

March 12, 2018 Report (Tarpon Video)

Hansell and dad Charles or an absolute blast the fish with. We had a cold front approaching today so we hit the tarpon spot but no one was home and the other Tarpon spots were being covered up by a storm line that kept us further north and I would have liked. However we fished an area where I have seen Tarpon in the past and drifted back or crab while the guys got warmed up catching fish on almost every cast. After a little bit the big rod goes off and 79 year old Charles is tied into a hundred pound tarpon. Charles is a veteran and fought the fish like a pro getting it to the boat in about 20 minutes. Great job Charles! Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

Brother in-laws Dominic and Mark far from Canada and wanted to get into some Tarpon action. Once again we fished a few spots but tarpon fishing was slow so we try to go for the next best thing which would be sharks but that was a no-go. Wanting these guys the catch some stuff I thought on some artificials they had a blast catching a bunch of fish towards the end of the trip. Mark was right at home as he is a semi pro bass angler in Canada so throwing lures was right up his alley and the guys shined.

Today I was back in Miami fishing with Jeff and son Cameron. It's springtime so of course I have Tarpon on my mind and we hit a couple spots but there were very few fish around. We ended up fishing in grassflat where the guys had a blast keeping the rods bent on almost every cast on trout, blue fish, Lady Fish and a few other species.

Phil and Dave met me at Ocean Reef Club and off we went. They wanted to Ben rods and Phil had it fixed before so we needed to keep it fun and easy and that is what we did. We pulled into a creek and caught some Snappers and got Phil used to handling a rod all day was warming up on some fish as well. Keeping a few of the fish that we caught we ran over to the flats and started chumming for sharks where they each caught one and we called it early in order to make it back before the cold front that was approaching.

March 6th 2018 Report (Tarpon Video!)

Bob had fished with me back on December 29 and now he had referred his co-worker and boss Mike to fish with me as well. So Mike and his 13 year old son Slate jump in the boat and wanted to target Tarpon, Bonefish or permit. Having a half-day to work with and some awesome conditions how can you pass up Tarpon during Tarpon season. The first spot I only found a couple fish but the second spot was a mother load as we hooked up immediately on about a 150 lb fish. Unfortunately the hook broke and we lost the fish but it was early on in the trip. Not too long later the rod doubled over and Mike was on to about a 140lb fish that gave us a lot of big jumps and after hard fought 30 minute fight we got the fish next to the boat for a quick picture and a release. We ended the day with some trout action so the guy could take something home to eat and enjoyed a great day on the water today Capt. From Minnesota came Jared and his father-in-law Kent for full day. Of course we had to target tarpon and found quite a few but they had lock jaw. Changing it up quite a bit they caught some sea trout and we also lost two sharks and had a nice day on the water with some action on different species.

March 4, 2018 Report (Tarpon video!)

Chris is a regular local client of mine and he brought along Blue and Sheridan. Turns out Sheridan had never caught a fish before so she was in for a big surprise. We pulled up to the first tarpon spot and found a bunch of fish which eventually turned on and we got a double header on with blue and Sheridan both hooked up. Unfortunately for Blue, hers jumped off on the first jump but Sheridan kept hers on and was in for her epic fight. After a long brutal fight we had the tarpon next to the boat only to have 12 to 13 foot hammerhead try to eat her tarpon. At this point we got the leader release and sent it off while chasing the shark and save the tarpon. Having to use the restroom, I took them to a waterside restaurant so we had breakfast together and then wrapped up the day catching a bunch of trout on the grass last. It was a great day with great people and I always enjoy fishing with these guys. Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

March 2, 2018 Report

Mike and Diana are from Pennsylvania, Philly to be more exact and once I congratulated them on beating the Patriots dianna confessed that she's a recovering Patriots fan. Well enough with that, we tarpon fished first thing in the morning but didn't hook any so we changed it up and caught a few hogfish, which was a big deal because Mike had never caught one and it actually is difficult to catch them on hook and line, along with sharks. We ended the day targeting more Tarpon but didn't hook any.

March 1, 2018 Report (Tarpon video!)

Well it's officially spring time and tarpon season is underway and thankfully for Joe and Ana they were the benefactors of that today. Joe had mentioned he wanted to target Bonefish but also wanted to catch something for dinner and with 6 hours to work with I had to squeeze in a little bit of tarpon fishing as well so we went to the grass flats where Joe had a blast catching a bunch of sea trout keeping some for dinner. With that under our belt we went down to the bonefish flats where he had a bunch of shots at big mudding bonefish. Ending the trip at a tarpon spot, Joe got a bite and a hook-up and he played around with an 80 lb tarpon before the hook came free and we lost Joe's tarpon. He admitted to me he is now addicted and can't wait to come back and do it all over again. Way to go Joe! Capt. I was itching to get on the water and redeem myself from my last trip so with Simon from France nestled in the boat we had a great time catching trout, sharks, snapper, jacks and more. Yeah, it's definitely David's boat!

I'm starting to think David's boat is going through a slump. Today we jumped on his boat and there was nothing alive in Biscayne bay. Hmmmm, not sure about this. Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

With tarpon on my mind Mike and I targeted tarpon for a bit but they were mia. What to do? Hmmm, we caught some jacks, hooked a huge bull shark and left Mike with very sore arms.

Nick was running over an hour late for his group charter so I waited and off we went. Tarpon fishing was slow so we changed it up catching a number of species before dropping him off early at a waterside restaurant. Capt. David is a regular client of mine from PA and were targeting tarpon only. Along the way David hooked and fought a 40lb jack until it spit the hook near the boat. The last hour however, the tarpon turned on and we hooked three big fish in the 150 range!

We had some really awesome conditions today and I started my charter a little late at 10a.m. with Henrik from Denmark. We had great conversations as Henrik was a sergeant in the Danish military and fought in Bosnia. He wanted to catch Bonefish so we headed straight to the Bonefish flats and had a few shots at first but ended the day absolutely covered in big mudding bonefish where Henrik had an obscene number of shots and hooked one but broke off almost immediately. What a heartbreaker! Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

Today was a really fun day fishing 1/2 day in the morning with Rob again. He is a blast of fish with very cool laid-back and had some interesting stories about a couple of other Charters he was on after we fished on Thursday. In any event, we did find some Bonefish and had some shots on fly but didn't hook any. Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing
