May 23, 2019 Report (Bonefish)

I was glad to have been off the water the last few days as I waited for the moon phase to improve. Well, it did and Bill was the recipient of the improved moon phase. He's from New Orleans and wanted to try for bonefish, tarpon and permit, species much harder than the reds he gets back home. At our first spot we found a bunch of bonefish and Bill got his first bonefish early on in the trip. As the day progressed and the wind increased to 20MPH we permit fished for a bit and then finished off tarpon fishing the flats where we found some but never had a solid shot at them courtesy of the wind and cloud cover. In the meantime we were able to sneak a quick trip to the finger channels where Bill caught his first mutton snapper. Congrats on the bone Bill!

Nathan and his wife Britney jumped aboard today and we were on the hunt for bones and tarpon. We fished high and low for bonefish and drew a blank in spite of ideal conditions. Tired of this we hit the oceanside flats for tarpon and threw flies at a bunch of them. We had a few track the fly and a few take a swipe at them but no hook ups. Capt. May 17 and 18, 2019 Report

The last time I fished with Jeffm it was blowing close to 25 mph winds but he managed to catch two nice bonefish. Conditions today were once again ideal on both days but the fishing remained tough. One the first day we bent some rods on a wreck after blanking on bonefish, tarpon and permit and on the third day we focused only on the big three and drew a blank. Urgh! Capt. With the bonefishing being so good I was excited today to get Hassan on some bonefish. We had perfect condtions, slick calm water, low tide and a high hopes. I pulled in to the first flat and nothing came easy. We had bonefish and redfish acting especially spooky. There were a number of times when we would blow out fish a few feet from the boat although they weren't visible as they seem to be sitting on the bottom or moving very slowly. With the wind kicking up we moved to a shallow wreck bent some rods and then hot the flats for big cudas bit only small ones were around. What a tough day. Capt. May 15, 2019 Report (Bonefish Video!)

Today I had Nathan on board and he is a sniper with the flyrod. We focused on bonefish today and that was the right move as the bonefishing was on fire! He ended up going 2 for 5 on bonefish on fly and we had a blast. You have to watch the video for the craziness and near disaster!

Kent is always a blast to fish with and his friend, who had fished with me a few months prior, completed the dynamic duo. Today was epic and it was the first day in about a week I was able to bonefish. With perfect conditions we hit a shoreline and that is all we needed. Kent was up first with the flyrod and on his 3rd cast hooked a nice bonefish and got it to the boat. What a start! Alex was up next and again on the 3rd cast got a solid bonefish himself. If only most trips were like this! After a bunch more shots the storms ran us off and we ended up shark fishing the flats and it was epic as well.

Erich has fished with me before and he was back on board today. The goal was to catch lots of fish and then a bog one for bragging rights. Back on the wrecks and it was on fire catching mangrove snappers, trigger fish, yellow jacks, grouper, blue runners and more. Then we hit the flats for big barracuda and sharks and the flats were dead. Weird! Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFIshing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

With the fishing being so good on the wrecks yesterday I took Mike and his friend to them today and had a blast catching a bunch of fish. But first we did a quick pass through for bones and permit but the water was too high for them. Once we had plenty of fish in the boat we hit the flats and caught sharks. Cool trip today! Capt. May 6, 2019 Report

I was looking forward to fishing with David again but not looking forward to fishing around Key Biscayne. The fishing around there has been pretty slow and today that proved to be the case. I told David to forget tarpon and we looked for other species, mainly sharks. We found plenty of those but they wouldn't hit live bait. What???? Well, I caught a nice jack and send back a fillet and they still ignored it. Geeze! The trip ended in a usually reliable spot but David managed to catch a few snappers and that was it. I miss Homestead!

After a day off, I was back on the water with Bubba and he had Lee and John along. Bubba wanted a repeat of the last trip so we did, we did! I had 10 dozen shrimp this time and we went through almost all of them in about and hour and a half as the guys caught: Grouper Hog fish snapper trigger fish blue runners porgies Then we hit the flats where both John and Lee caught stingrays, we were targeting sharks. As I pulled the baits out to head back I saw a shark come in out of the corner of my eye, tossed a bait and he ate. Bubba was on and after a nice fight we got his shark in the 4th quarter at the end of regulation on a hail Mary. Way to go Bubba!

I've fished with Bubba from Alabama before and he is one funny guy. Today is the first of two days of fishing where he is taking out fellow conference attendees, Cliff and Pete. We hit two spots, that's all we needed. The first spot was a wreck and we went through 8 dozen shrimp in short order with fast and furious action catching: Hog fish snapper yellow jacks porgies blue runners and more! The trip ended on the flats where Pete lost a nice shark mid way through the fight. I was promised they would not let him live that one down.

May 5, 2019 AM & PM Cinco De Mayo Report

AM Report I was blessed with having two great trips today with great people. My morning trip was with Peggy who was celebrating her birthday and wanted to bonefish for the first time. Joining her were her son Darrel and her husband Ed. We fished the same spot I've been catching bonefish on almost every trip and they got a few big mojaras, that hang out with bonefish, and a few other species. However, as we were fishing we had several boats come idling right up tpo us and spook everything around us. Urgh. We moved spots and they caught box fish and bonnet head sharks but no bones although we did see a few move in. PM Report I love fishing in Homestead! Even with the large boating crowds, it was peaceful on the flats and Mike from Texas and I felt like we had the bay all to ourselves. Mike wanted to catch fish so we fished a ship wreck where he had constant action. Then we moved onto the flats where he got a nice cuda on lure and we ended the day getting a shark as planned. What a nice couple of trips!

May 3 & 4, 2019 Report (Bonefish Video)

I had the pleasure once again of fishing with Alec and his brother Kevin for two days. This is their annual tarpon trip but with tarpon fishing being so slow we decided to target bonefish. Over the course of two days they caught bonefish, had shots at permit, got into a couple of tarpon, caught barracuda and sharks. I always have a great time with these guys and the hours just fly by when we're together.

April 29, 2019 Report (Bonefish Video)

I love my job. After a day off I was refreshed and ready to go to work. Three guys on board today that were a riot and great to be with, Craig, Keith and Gayle. Our morning started off with some fly fishing but the guys are used to fishing streams for trout and didn't quite get the distance we need for bonefish, tarpon and permit on fly so we switched off to spin. That was the ticket. We fished one flat and scored two bonefish plus a few sharks and the intrusive mojara. Keith had driven all the way from Titusville, FL just for this and got his first bonefish ever. Congrats Keith! On a similar note, the bonefishing has been getting better with each of the last few years and this year has been very good on the days I've been booked for bonefishing. This is a great sign!

Mike and David have been good friends for a while and I picked them up from the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo. The goal was to fly fish for tarpon and bonefish so we did. On the flats is where a lot of the tarpon fishing takes place this time of year and the guys had some great shots at tarpon cruising in 3 feet of clear water but no takers. The day ended with some shots at bonefish which we all thought shoud have eaten on several occasions.
