Permit Mayhem! Month Wrap up Report June 15-30, 2025

Wow, what a way to end the month of June! While most of my charters have been for bonefish tarpon and permit, I have done a little bit of potluck fishing and done pretty well catching barracudas, Jack ladyfish and the sort. But let's turn our attention to the prized silver species that are swimming around in Biscayne Bay right now. The last two weeks of June were fantastic with big permit being caught by Alec, bonefish tarpon and permit being caught by Dan and Hunter and a few more species mixed in just for fun. Although it's been hot, it's been a pretty breezy summer so far so it's kept us cool on the water and the afternoon thunderstorms that are pretty typical of summertime have not materialized, allowing us to fish a full day charter without having to dodge or outrun Storms. It's been a great month and I look forward to another great month in July!

June Mid Month Report June 1-15, 2025

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there.  June is the month where charters start winding down a bit, it gets hot and the fishing changes a bit.  However, so far this month June has been hot as usual but with an unusually breezy month it has been pretty comfortable out on the water.  The types of charters so far this month have been varied with some bookings for bonefish, there for tarpon, shark and pretty much a bunch of fun fishing and it has been fun.  The flats have been holding sharks and barracudas plus the number of permit are pretty solid.  The bonefishing has been up and down and the snook fishing has been fair.  However, we've had some really great days on the water and some really cool clients.  Here are some pics that highlight the first half or June so far.  Stay cool!

Ending Spring May 15-31, 2025

I have to admit, May was good but not on fire as the month of May should be.  But, I also recognize I am part of the problem.  Well, let me explain.  While we did have 2-3 slow days towards the last week of May due largely to the new moon, most days were good.  But, it wasn't on fire as it should have been and therefore I perceive it as slow.  Case in point, one on trip towards the end of the month was with Evan and his son Austin.  We fished two days and on day two we hooked 3 tarpon, landed one and hadn't another 2 eat a fly but not get hooked, caught some fun ladyfish and then ended the trip losing a bonefish on fly.  Ok, so it wasn't a slow day but for some reason it felt that way, maybe because I expected to land a few bonefish.

Anyway, the second half of the month was actually pretty good with mostly bonefish and some tarpon landed.  I had one trip with Bill from NOLA where we had some great shots at tailing bonefish and had a permit eat our crab but not get hooked.  On the last day regular client Chris had several shots at tailing bonefish on fly and had one track his fly and eat it next to the boat only to spit it out before Chris could set. Admittedly, Chris can definitely fish and this one was not on him but we ended the day landing three bonefish.

I had to work the entire Memorial Day weekend and had some really cool fly overs by B-52, 1, B2, F22, F16 F16, F4 and A10's and it was mind blowingly cool (is that even a word?).  We are finally having some windless calm mornings so hopefully this continues making it easier and moire exciting to chase permit and bonefish early morning.

Oh, and I had a bull shark eat the propeller off mat trolling motor!
