June 9th 2018 Report
I hadn't fished with JC in a while and we had to reschedule our last trip due to weather but today although the weather was iffy it was a lot more stable than last time. The goal was to tarpon fish all morning and that we did. We fished on his 32 foot Intrepid and just about every spot we fished held a lot of tarpon but unfortunately for us the tarpon were on a diet and we couldn't seem to hook any. That is the frustrating thing about tarpon fishing sometimes you can have them all around you and yet they will ignore everything you throw at them.

I had an afternoon trip today out of the Ocean Reef Club and we were going to stick to fly fishing only with Tommy and his friend. We had some unstable weather as the trip started off with storms all around me on my way down to the Ocean Reef Club but by the time I picked the guys up the weather had cleared up. We looked for Bonefish and had a school of permit move through and a few single Bonefish but no big schools that we can get a shot at. The weather started to turn on us and got overcast and dark so we had to give up on sight fishing and turn our attention to fishing creeks but that proved to be slow and we called it a day in order to get the guys back by 5 p.m.

I was back on David's boat today but we had a completely different game plan from the usual. Although there have been Tarpon around it's been tough to get them to eat so we decided to get a Live Well full of pilchards and head offshore. We stopped off in a hundred feet of water put out two big live pilchards and began our drift and pretty quickly Peter hooked up to a nice 20 pound Kingfish that we got to the boat. On our second drift Julian hooked up and had a nice fight but the fish spit the hook close to the boat. On our third drift we had one of our baits get eaten but the fish didn't get hooked and with the current slowing down on us the fishing definitely slowed down. We decided to run offshore some more and look for weed lines, pallets, barrels any kind of debris that would hold bait dolphin but we didn't find any so we ran back insore and caught a couple of jacks before calling it a day. On the run in I quickly filleted up a big mangrove snapper and that big king fish and there will be some good dinner tonight!

What a coincidence, my guys yesterday were from Russia and today I had Rick with his brother in law Eagor which is also from Russia. Cool! We kept it moving today jumping from spot to spot picking up fish at almost every spot and tried some tarpon fishing was well.

Mixing it up was the key today as Gene wanted to fly fish and Paul wanted to use spin. Sot one held some small tarpon and jacks where the guys got a few jacks and missed the bite on a tarpon. Spot two held a ton of big tarpon but they wouldn't eat. Spot three was about the same and then off to the flats where it was slow and we finished the trip closer to the marina where we found some nice jacks and the guys had a blast.

George and his two boys Evan and Patrick were back on board today and the boys got worn out on snappers while George was throwing lures catching bar jacks and snappers. Using one of the snappers as bait we hooked and lost a massive barracuda. We ended the trip tarpon fishing a ton of tarpon with lockjaw.

June 1, 2018 Report (Tarpon Video!)
What a way to start June! The weather definitely has gotten back to normal and we had great conditions this morning as Patrick, Julie and their daughter Alysson jumped aboard for a half day. Spot number one was for tarpon but I only saw a couple of rolling fish so off to spot 2. Spot two proved to be the magic spot with us hooking up a double header right off the bat. Patrick hooked one about 150 as we saw a school finning on the surface and pretty active. As soon as Patrick hooked up Alysson's rod doubled over and she hooked up as well but hers got off immediately after the first jump. Chasing Patrick's fish I noticed something weird on the line and it turned out it was the rope attached to an abandoned crab trap. Unfortunately the line wrapped around the rope in such a way were the fish broke us off. We stayed another while but the fish had moved away so we did as well. We caught a few small trout and then Patrick decided he wanted another shot at Tarpon so off we went back to spot number two where we found some rolling fish. Julie hooked up almost immediately but handed the rod off the Alysson so her girl can fight a fish. After about 40 minutes the 130 lb Tarpon was almost done and Alysson decided it was time for Dad to have some fun as well so Patrick wrapped it up and we got the release on their biggest Tarpon to date. What a great way to end the day with some great people and an awesome way to start summer!
