February 20, 2019 Report (Tarpon Video)

I had an afternoon trip today with Bill, Cody and Matt. We looked for tarpon first but they were MIA. Changing it up they caught a nice snapper on every cast and then Matt hooked and fought a massive bull shark for over 30 minutes before being broken off as it thrashed on the surface. With time winding down I couldn't help but give tarpon fishing another shot and it paid off. Just minutes after setting up Cody was on to a big 120lb tarpon. The whole fight from hook up to release was 15 minutes because there was a big bull shark after it and we got the leader release and avoided both of the the big bull's attacks on the tarpon, pulling off a miracle. Paul and Will boarded today with one simple request, let's keep the rods bent. Ok, so we did. They caught a bunch of fish in the finger channels and then we targeted bull sharks where Will fought one for a while before the hook came free. Urgh! Great people and great day and I was happy that Will lost the bet they had going on which was if they caught more than two fish Will had to pay dad Paul $50. Pay up Will!

February 17, 2019 AM & PM Reports

AM Report MY morning trip was with a couple of awesome brother who grew up in Key West. Before they left KW at around age 10, they finally hooked but lost a big barracuda that used to live by their dock. Today, they wanted redemption, and I was honored to be a part of their rare time together. Rob quickly sight cast a nice cuda and then Steve had a bunch of opportunities but they would track the lure to the boat and spook. The guys had a blast and it was a great day full of laughs and great stories.
PM Report My afternoon trip was with Tom, Jules and mom Erin. I took them to a wreck where they caught a bunch of porgies and snapper before we headed to the flat. With the crew warmed up we shark fished and they got a big stingray and a shark. Jules is a marine biology student and it was a thrill for her to catch the species she has written papers on, sharks.

February 16, 2019 AM & PM Reports

AM Report Mu morning trip was with Michael and his little girls Addie from Georgia. The goal was to get Addie on some fish and then try bonefishing. I took them to a nearby shallow wreck in the lee of the wind and Addie caught a bunch of fish. Getting her engaged, we then switched of to bonefishing nearby where Michael had some shots at bonefish but the fishing was definitely tough.
PM Report My afternoon trip was with Mike and his wife Danielle. With the weekend craziness going on I decided to take them to the flats way south since Mike wanted to fly fish for bonefish. Mike definitely had some solid shots including some big tailing bonefish. As the trip progressed Danielle asked him "Don't you want to try something else to catch something?" His answer was classic, "Nope, I'm having a blast doing exactly this." Awesome Mike! Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

February 15, 2019 Report

I always look forward to fishing with Dean and I was able to do just that today. We looked for tarpon for a while but they were really scattered thanks to the Miami International Boat Show going on just a few miles away with a ton of sea trials occurring over the tarpon. Changing it up we caught a few species and targeted bull sharks where Dean got a nice bull in the 250lb range. Way to go Dean!

February 11, 2019 Report

Maria was back in the boat today fresh from her bonefish on flay last week and today she brought Lisa along. The goal was a bit different today as Lisa is a new flyfisher and Maria wanted her to catch something easy. I took them to a spot away from the brisk wind and helped Lisa with her casting technique. As a bonus, she caught her first saltwater fish on fly and then some tarpon popped up and we fished them for a while. The weather got really nasty and we decided to call it a day early to avoid the massive storms rolling in.

February 10, 2019 Report

Raja is always a blast to fish with and he brought his girlfriend and another friend along. Today we faced high winds in the 25-30 MPH range but the mission was bonefish. There was only one place we could fish in these conditions so we worked it. Along the way we had a bonefish come in and eat but not get hooked while they caught tons of bonnet head sharks, sometimes within moments of each other. It was a blast and although the wind never died down, we are already booked for our next trip.
