This was the day June 12, 2021

I had Andrew on board today for bonefish and permit fishing on fly.  The conditions started off perfect for both but we focused on bonefish and it was on fire with tons of schools tailing all around us and Andrew hooking up a number of times and landing a few bonefish on fly.  Once the tide got too high the wind cranked up and the cloud cover began so the permit fishing was slow the rest of the day.

A better day June 11, 2021

Kevin was back on the skiff today with his brother David and they wanted to keep things easy.  Since that was the goal I took them to a shipwreck where they caught some smaller snappers and shark bait and then we hit the flats for sharks.  The first flat for big sharks was slow so we fished a different flat where I find smaller sharks where the guys caught 60lb lemon sharks on light tackle and had a blast.

Not this time June 10, 2021

I had regular long time client Ken and his little girl Gianna today and we started off bonefishing but the flats were really slow.  I took them to a spot where they bent rods and caught some fish including some for shark bait.  Once we got onto the flats we hooked about 4 nice lemon sharks but lost them all.  On the same flat a huge school of bonefish showed up and stayed a while mudding round the boat but it seemed like everything we did backfired.  I made a cast into the school of mudding bonefish and a hound fish ate the bait instead.  Then we made another cast, hooked a bonefish and it came off.  The another shot and the bonefish ate but Ken missed the bite.  Wow, that was rough as we headed back dejected.

Two Trip Day June 9, 2021

I had two trips today and both were a bunch of fun with no trophies landed but the missions were accomplished as they clients had fun, caught fish and were able to enjoy a well deserved relaxing day.

Some Guys Just Have it June 8, 2021

I had the pleasure of fishing Chris and Ericka this morning.  They are from Texas and run a great inshore fishing charter service in Galveston, TX https://justcastcharters.com/  These were great people and great fisherman/woman to boot!  Well, long story short Chris wanted snook as they don't catch snook in TX.  Within the first hour that was checked off the list but not before Ericka kad outfished him on other species.  With my eye on the tide it was time to move and target tarpon.  Setting up and not long after Chris had a nice permit in the boat and followed that up with a 120lb tarpon.  WOW!  We wrapped it up fishing for bonefish as I was desperate for them to get a super grand slam but we only had a few shots that didn't materialise.  Man what a day but I still wanted that bonefish!

This is what I like! June 7, 2021

I like days/reports like these.  I had Don from PA today and he really wanted to target tarpon.  The main spot was still about an hour and a half way from prime time but I found some tarpon at another spot.  They did the typically tarpon thing, roll, look at our baist and ignore them.  Ha, just you wait tarpon!  Once we had the right tide I took Don to spot I like and after some patience, mainly on my part, Don hooks an 80lb tarpon.  Getting the fish out in open water we both thought we were in the clear until the tarpon, just 20' from the boat spits the hook.  We tried it again and Don hooked up again but this time the fish spits the hook on a massive jump.  Urgh!  Finally deciding to change it up after it slowed down we looked for bonefish where Don got his first bonefish and then we missed a second bite.  Way to go Don!

Sometimes this happens June 5, 2021

It's unusual this time of year but I was off for three days in a row but I didn't mind since I had to take the skiff in for some well deserved service.  Back on the water with Brennan today where we were targeting bonefish with a mix of spin and fly.  It was really windy, unusual for June, and the fishing was slow as we struck out at the first two spots.  The last spot of the trip paid off and Brennan had a few shots at bonefish on fly but didn't hook up.  I don't like these types of reports.
