It was almost a done deal! September 17, 2021

 This morning I had Emily from MD with fly rod in hand.  In her short two years fly fishing she has caught plenty of redfish, snook trout but today it was bonefish.  I got her up early and we started before first light and by the time we were at the first spot of the morning there was enough light to see over the slick calm surface of the water.  It took a bit but then I started to see the tails and wakes coming towards us.  After some shots at schools of bonefish and permit there was one school coming right at us.  I positioned Emily perfectly at 11 o'clock and as the school got closer she started her false casting and dropped the fly right in front of the school.  Strip, strip, BAM!  I saw the big bonefish eat, the line come tight and then CRACK!  The fish broke off.  It's still a mystery as to why/how that happened but we were both heart broken.  Emily had a few more shots after that but the fishing took a downward turn and the fishing died off everywhere we went.  Wow, this one hurt!

Sike! But we worked through it September 16, 2021

 I want to be like John, at 73 he is fit, strong, active and the man can fish!  The goal was permit and bonefish and the morning couldn't have been more perfect for it.  Starting off in about 4' of water looking for permit there were some schools around and I was able to get John a couple of really good shots at schools of permit waking and tailing towards us.  Then we went shallower looking for bonefish and found a few schools but nothing like what I expected.  With the breeze kicking up we changed locations and targeted more bonefish.  It took about two hours before John got one but I could tell the improving morning fishing had slowed again.  Urgh, so much for that bait and switch!  After fishing a couple of permit spots unsuccessfully it was time to head back in and try to avoid a nasty storm building right above the marina.

It's getting better September 14, 2021

 I see an improvement in the fishing, finally!  John and Britney were in town for work from TX and they wanted to get some fishing in, just any type of fish.  Well, with such great conditions we started off with snook where John hooked one but it came off.  Then off to bonefishing where things were slow.  Finally with the right tide I took them to a channel and it was on with Amy hooking some snappers but John was on fire hooking several big yellow jacks and a few other really nice fish before the tide changed and it was time to go home.

The grinder September 13, 2021

 The fishing has definitely slowed down and we are in a stretch of slow fishing so I decided to fish with John and Amy out of a different marina further north out of Miami and see if that made a difference.  The end result was the same, fishing has sucked but we fished all over creation to try and make things happen.  At the end of the trip I was able to locate some jacks where they got to hook up on every cast and end the trip on a high note.  These folks were great and had a great time seeing Miami from the water and getting into some hot action towards the end.

Don's back! September 12, 2021

 He's back!  Last minute change to his work schedule allowed Don to get back on the water so we target snook in the creeks but no one was home.  Then we tried bonefishing but that sucked.  OK, hmmm, let's try the wrecks.  Well, they held some fish but all small.  We managed to catch a few runners on lures and then hit the flats for small lemons on light tackle.  I have to tell you, the fishing was slow and it took much longer for these guys to show up but they did and Don was busy fighting sharks every few minutes for a nice stretch before the end of the trip.

First timers score! September 11, 2021

 First time clients Stefan and Mark picked a perfect weather day to head out so off we went.  We tried bonefishing and permit fishing in the early morning but that was slow.  However, I did find large schools of bait (fall is coming!) and loaded up the livewell with plenty of pilchards over the grass flats.  All it took was one spot and the guys lit it up.  I live chummed a bit and the party started quickly with snappers or yellow jacks on almost every cast and it got better as we got closer to the end of the trip.  Towards the end Stefan hooks a massive fish and after a long fight and numerous sizzling runs he landed a big barracuda, with no wire leader!  Wow!

They're back! September 6, 2021

 David and his boys were back on board and ready to have a good time.  The fishing started slow with the first wreck being devoid of life but the second one had plenty of snappers, jacks and blue runners to keep the boys busy.  Once they had their fill we hit the flats where the boys did their best at landing some lemon sharks that were hungry and aggressive.  They did a great job fighting their fish with a little help from dad.  Good job guys!
