January 27, 2017 Report

On-board today was Chris, a local angler and a regular client of mine. Last time we fished about a month ago we jumped on his big Grady-White but faced 30 mile an hour winds and the fishing was absolutely brutal. Today however was a different day as he brought along his granddaughter Nicole and her friend Nick. Also we had absolutely perfect weather with light Southwest winds clear skies and the air temperature in the high sixties, absolutely gorgeous! We invested the first couple of hours of the trip looking for Tarpon and while we found some those fish refused to eat and instead of investing more time we decided to change gears and do something else. Using jigs we caught big Sheepshead, mutton Snappers, bar Jacks and a few other species and then turned our attention to Snook. The snook fishing was shut down however and there were none to be had so we drifted over a grass flat using artificial lures and caught big blue fish, barracuda, snappers and then we decided to head south. With a live well full of pilchards we fished two wrecks and that was really all we needed to do as they were solid. Using the live pilchards we caught about a dozen grouper including two really nice fish, mutton snappers, triggerfish, bar Jacks and Mangrove snappers. It was a great day with great people and I was glad Chris and I were able to redeem ourselves from the last trip! And before I forget Chris that's something very cool on the 2nd wreck. We anchored up with the wreck in sight in eight feet of water and Chris saw two nice groupers sitting on the bottom staring at us. So what did he do? He grabbed small blue Runner out of the live well put it on the hook dropped it right next to the boat and one of the groupers and inhaled it instantly and after a tough fight the grouper came aboard for a picture. So cool!

Today I fished with Marc from the UK and his two friends Steve and Dean. Marc and I fished a couple of years ago and had a great time and they were back in town celebrating his 50th birthday. They wanted tarpon, sharks and bonefish and I knew conditions were right with absolutely clear skies and almost no wind. The morning started cool in the low sixties and we made a run over to South Beach to look for Tarpon. After a long reconnaissance of the area there were no Tarpon to be found. We changed spots and found some tarpon and while just a few were rolling there were big schools holding deep but in spite of our best efforts we couldn't get them to eat. Along the way the guys caught mutton snapper, Hogfish, Big Jack's and plenty of sharks. We wrapped up the day over a grass flat catching sea trout before calling it a day with sore arms. I love it!

Lloyd is from TX and came down for a conference. Being a wise man he booked two days of fishing before the conference and here we were today. The fishing was tough today but we managed to catch a number of fish using live and artificial baits. Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

Rob and his wife joined me this morning for a half-day trip and we focused on fishing the grass flats that have been productive. The fishing was a bit slower than I would have liked but we definitely caught trout and ended the day missing a bunch of trout when the bite turned on. Capt. There is a saying in fishing that says "you don't know until you go" and that held true for today. Frank and his client John jumped aboard today and we were facing steady 25 mile an hour winds gusting higher. There were only two spots we could fish with the first one proving a bit slow but the second one producing several snook for John who had had the hot hand.

Alec is a local angler and a regular client of mine and every time we fish together we have a great time. Today the search began for Tarpon to no avail as the tarpon were missing in action. We caught a few species but the fishing was slow so we headed down to a couple of shipwrecks where we could not get down to the grouper because the Jacks and sharks were too thick. We ended the day chumming for Bonefish but not finding any

I had the treat today of fishing with my client and friend David aboard his 32 foot Intrepid taking out Joe, his son Vincent and Milan. Fishing was tough and we could not find any Tarpon but ended up in the finger channels that was loaded with fish and kept the rods bent with fish on every cast until the guys confessed their arms were sore. That's the way I like to end a trip!

Today I fish with Jose and his little boy and had a great time on our half day trip. Turns out Jose is from the Dominican Republic and knows one of my clients from there that always has me in stitches during our trips. We concentrated on fishing grass flats close to his hotel and had a blast catching trout, ladyfish, Jack's, Snapper and missing a shark. Capt. Bud is a really cool guy who joined me today for a full day Charter. He works for an ad agency and is also working on several fishing films that he hopes to release soon. I went on his website and checked them out and they are definitely high quality solid films that are enjoyable to watch and very well narrated. We started looking for Tarpon and found some but could not get them to eat so we shifted our focus to other species catching a number of different species but ended up fishing for Bonefish. The bone fishing was good as we had about a half-dozen solid shots at schools of mudding Bonefish and cruising Bonefish.

Joining me today was Stuart and his teenage son. Stuart tells me he's not a big fisherman but his son is and like any good father he booked the trip to spend some quality time with his son. We fished the number of different spots catching fish throughout the morning and had a great time watching them not only catch fish but spend some quality time together. This truly is what fishing is all about. Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

Today I had two trips, one in the morning and a half day in the afternoon. My morning trip started off with Alex. Alex has become a regular client of mine and today he brought along his brother. We started off working the last of the incoming tide over grass flats and catching Snapper, Barracuda, trout, Jack and hooking three different spinner sharks that were in the area. Alex wanted to make up for losing a really nice shark last time so we tried to focus on the shark fishing and hit a different spot towards the end of the trip. I was marking a lot of sharks on my Raymarine and eventually hooked several but unfortunately as it is with spinner shark every time they jumped and spun they popped off. My afternoon trip was with bear and his father and wanting to get away from the increasing boat traffic around Key Biscayne we headed south to some shipwrecks. Arriving there the action was good on Snapper and triggerfish and a few other species that kept the rods bent and the reels singing.

The last time Guillermo and I fished he brought his daughter along and she landed a 6-foot lemon shark all on her own. Quite impressive! Today he brought both his daughters along and the goal was snook and tarpon. Unfortunately the fishing was really slow and we didn't land any although we did hook and lose one snook and missed a few other bites.

Today's trip was with client and friend David and once again we were aboard his 32-foot Intrepid. Today we wanted specifically to target tarpon and we spent the entire half day trip on Tarpon but unfortunately every last fish had lockjaw and refused to eat. Very frustrating! Capt.
