February 1, 2017 Report (Tarpon Video)
Kent is from Texas and he fished with me 2 years ago celebrating his birthday. Today he was in town for business and took a day to explore more of Biscayne Bay. The morning started with us tarpon fishing and hooking a solid fish in the 120lb range but it came off after the first jump. Urgh!!
We moved to the flats since he wanted to catch a barracuda on the flats and began the search. Right off the bat there were schools of barrauda swimming around in 2 feet of clear water. Kent made a perfect cast to the group that was coming in and one of them ate the lure just feet from the bow of the boat. What a rush! A few long runs later the big ‘cuda came to the boat. Hitting a shallow shipwreck had Kent land a few grouper and losing a couple more to the structure. With the tide turning I decided to end the trip tarpon fishing and the decision paid off with Kent hooking another tarpon about 100lbs. After a long fight and a few majestic jumps later the fish was close to being landed when the hook broke! What?! URGH!!! What a way to lose that fish! A few drifts later over the same school didn’t result in another hook up and it was time to head in.
