July 30, 2018 Report (Video)
I had a scheduled day off today but when I got the call the fish with Matt in his wife Carla I had a hard time passing it up. So off we went today for a quick half day trip. After loading up bait, the high winds had blown out the snook and tarpon spots which is very unusual for this time of year. We decided to do some trout fishing were Carla caught the 1st one on the 1st cast but after that it was a dead zone. I decided to hit a jack and tarpon spot and boy did that payoff. However, some weird things happened today! Carla had the hot hand as to begin with and put the number big jack's wearing her out and having to hand the right off the mad a few times. Soon after met God a hot hand as well and kept the rods bent with drag screaming jacks. Seeing some tarpon rolling around we drifted off a bait back and Carla hooked the tarpon, got a nice jump out of it but it came off. Then Matt hooks another fish which turns out it was about a 3 and a 1/2 foot barracuda that jumped in the air like a tarpon. This is where it gets weird. Then out of nowhere as he's fighting the fish something significant hits me in the leg and it turns out the barracuda jumped out of the water, hit my leg and landed in the water on the opposite side of the boat! Whew, with those sharp teeth that was a close call! We landed the big barracuda but when I tried to use the landing tool it shook its head and cut the leader. A few minutes later some unidentified flying organism hit my shoulder out of nowhere. What's going on today? We continued incredibly hot fishing until all the bait ran out and we called it A-day a few minutes early. I'd love ending the month this way!

This was day 2 with John, Brian and Mickey but today we're going to focus on snook and tarpon so we did just that. The 1st spot we got to for snook we hooked two but they both came off. Our 2nd spot we had a tarpon bite but missed the hook set. As we continued to tarpon fish the weather around us got increasingly worse and we had to high tail it and call it A-day. On the run in with we had about 30 mile an hour winds, severe rain and reports of waterspouts just South of us. Too bad we got washed out because I was looking forward to getting these guys some nice fish today.

Today was day 1 of 2 with John, his son Brian, and Brian's friend Mickey. We were scheduled to fish 6 hours so we were on a mission to get the boys of variety of fish. After loading up on bait we went straight to a tarpon snook spot but it was tough fishing so we hit some shallow wrecks where they caught some fish including some for bait. With some shark bait in the boat we hit the flats were the boys each caught nice lemon sharks and all 3 caught barracudas. We wrapped at the day with some jacks and had a great trip.

Well it didn't take long, A-day off for my birthday and I was back to work today. I always enjoy fishing with people from other countries and today I had Erling and his son Glen from Norway. We started off late, almost noon, so I had to make some special arrangements to pick up bait but once the live well was full we want on our way. It only took one spot where the guys caught fish on almost every cast and 2 hours in decided they had enough of a great time so we called it A-day with 2 hours left. These guys were great and a lot of fun and I was really happy to introduce them to fishing in Miami.

Well guys today's the day before my birthday and I'm taking tomorrow off but today I had the pleasure of fishing with Kevin and his son Dylan. This was a great trip because right after getting our bait we went straight to fishing and absolutely wore out the fish, our drags, and Dylan. What are great way to kick off my birthday day off.

Local regular client Alec was a board today and we were after snook. I always have a great time with Alec and we have great conversations so we started off getting some bait and targeting snook. They were largely MIA and although I marked a few schools none of the baits would be harassed. So we switched to tarpon fishing but they had lockjaw so we caught a bunch of jacks and barracuda and made a day out of it.

I was looking forward to my trip today with Giles in his son Will from the UK. Giles is a good friend of a client of mine, George, and if Giles is anything like George we were gonna have a great time. We looked for tarpon and snook and found some but ended up missing a couple of bites but wrapped up the day catching some big jacks wearing out 19 year old Will.

I was really excited about our trip today with John and his wife because he wanted to target tarpon. Tarpon fishing had been good so I was riding high and after getting some bait we hit a few tarpon spots. The tarpon fishing was surprisingly slow and although we found some fish there weren't many and those that were there were not willing to play. So we decided to switch gears, catch other species and ended up having a great time.

July 12, 2018 Report (Tarpon Video)
After a brief vacation I was back in town and was back to work with Alex from Austria. We had a great trip and had a heart break as well. I wanted him to catch snook but boy they have been tough to find so it was no surprise that he didn't catch any. However, he did catch barracuda, jacks, trout and hooked 3 to five tarpon with three confirmed. Since it was nice and calm we used topwater lures and he quickly got hooked on the top water explosive strikes. We had a blast, caught a ton of fish and lost all three tarpon we jumped.

Back on the water today working 7am to 11am to beat the heat and the weekend crowds with Charlie from Bermuda on board. This was a fun trip as Charlie wanted to catch sharks and I already had some baits from yesterday so off the flats we went. Taking advantage of the outgoing tide we set up and we were hooked up within minutes! Almost getting spooled we had to chase the big lemon shark and got some video and a release. He wanted one more so that took another 20 minutes and he was on! After our second release we went back towards Key Biscayne where Charlie tore it on on artificials catching a bunch of jacks, hoking tarpon, mackerel and barracuda. Plus, he hooked his tarpon on a top water lure, awesome! Way to go Charlie!

After a day off I was back at work today with Justin and his wife getting in a quick half day trip during their layover on their way to Africa. Justin wanted to fly fish so we stuck to easier species that didn't require a long run to the bonefish flats and mixed in some spinning rods as well. We started of looking for snook and tarpon but that was slow so we switched it of to trout where he caught some. Then we hit one more spot where we finally got to stretch the fly line on some jacks and missed an eat from a tarpon right by the boat.

July 4, 2018 Report (Tarpon fireworks video!)
I was hesitant to work on the 4th of July because of the boating craziness but Sophie, Barrett and I hit the water at 6:30am and gave it a go. It was surprisingly quite and we took full advantage. Sophie lost a big snook, Barrett caught trout, jacks and oh, a Tarpon! It was his first tarpon ever and it was the main species we were targeting. He fought his fish like a pro and we experienced some great jumps and we even had a full house of spectators and were able to get off the water just as the mayhem began.

Paul and his boy Thomas joined me for day two of our trip. This time we fished out of Homestead because the fishing around Key Biscayne had been slow. We fished a small ship wreck where they caught a bunch of fish, most of them small for Thomas. Then we hot the flats for sharks where we found some tarpon in really shallow water but they stayed out of range as we tried to follow them for a shot. The shark fishing was slow so we called it a day.

July 1, 2018 Report (Near disaster with trophy fish on, video)
What a way to start off the month with Randy and Michelle from Iowa on board. They wanted to catch sharks and then mix it up so we ran straight to the flats and avoided the Sunday crowds being completely alone on the pristine flats. Maybe 10 to 15 minutes after setting up Michelle's rod doubles over and she gets her first shark of the day being just the right size for her and getting some cool pictures and video out of it. We waited and had some nice big sharks come right in to the boat, the coolest thing was the really calm conditions so you can see their dorsal fins and wakes moving towards the boat. However, a few of them moved through and never ate our bait but one of them finally did and after a long fight Randy soaked in sweat landed a hundred plus pounder to complete the couples goal. We tried to fish barracudas but. We wrapped up the morning with Randy landing a very big mutton snapper! Congratulations guys!

June 30th 2018 Report (Video)
Today I had the Taft family from Texas and being seven of them this was a two boat trip. The boys really wanted to catch a lot of fish but they also had shark on their minds so we took them to a spot where they got their fill of snapper and some runners which we turned into chum and bait on the flats. Once we got on the flats Philip let his daughter Lauren and grandson Phil take control and they had a blast hooking and landing a really nice lemon shark after losing the first two sharks we had hooked. Right as we were about to pull off the flat the rest of the family in the second boat hooked a shark and it was a storybook ending with last-minute heroics, lots of action, a great family having a great time and we could not have had a better day.

June 29th 2018 Report (Tarpon video!)
Permit and permit on flying is what Guy and his son Zack wanted so we met up at Homestead at 6 a.m. and took advantage of a slick calm conditions in the early morning. The permit fishing proved to be slow but as we pushed in a little shallower the bone fishing was absolutely on fire with big schools of fish moving through and big tailing double-digit Bonefish making our hearts race. After a number of opportunities on fly the Bonefish proved to be a bit too tough so we changed it up and ran up to the Key Biscayne area. Once there we fished a couple of spots for tarpon. The last tarpon spot proved to be the ticket. As soon as Guy and Zach's bait hit the water the Tarpon absolutely clobbered them and Guy hooked up and enjoyed what I call silver rage for a while. He got a ton of jumps out of his fish and got him to the boat until the fish made one last dash and broke is off on some underwater structure. The coolest thing about this is that guy told me he was absolutely hooked on Tarpon and would definitely be back a couple times. That is music to my ears!

I was working out of the Ocean Reef Club today and my guys Dave and Pryce wanted Bonefish on fly so off we went. We had great conditions, a great tide and great visibility but unfortunately with the exception of one school of mudding bonefish there were slim pickings out here today.

Paul and his little boy Thomas have fished with me before and today they jumped on the boat along with their friend Nick. We started off looking for snook but they were MIA so we turned our attention to Tarpon where Nick hooked one and we missed a couple of other bites but just as exciting was Thomas's monster jack and he caught proving little boys have big hearts. These guys are great and we had a great time and caught a bunch of fish but that big jack that Thomas caught was the highlight for me!

June 23 2018 report
Yesterday afternoon I got a call from Brent telling me he had told his wife what an awesome trip we had and all the fish we caught and she regretted having slept in so she wanted to go out today. Being off of course I said yes and off we went with Brent, Tanya his wife and I ready to have a great day. Our great Tarpon spot from yesterday was slow since we didn't see any snook or tarpon so we switched it up and Tanya caught a bunch of jacks that wore her out and hooked two big sharks that we had been targeting plus a few other fish including about a 40 lb Barracuda that ate Brent's Jack in half right next to the boat and then kept slashing and eating the dangled fish remains right in front of us absolutely blowing Tanya's mind. I love summer!

June 22 2018 report (Tarpon video!)
Today I had Brent from Oregon and although he wanted to fly fish he decided to mix it up and so we did and that worked out beautifully. We went to the first spot where I had fished with Tom yesterday and that spot was on fire as Brent hooked three tarpon, landed two, lost a couple of snook and had a few other fish work our drags. We wrapped it up at a different spot where he caught a bunch of big jacks on live bait and on fly. He was nice enough to let me use his fly rod to make a few cast and catch a jack on the Fly. We had a couple of Tarpon come up and take a swipe at our baits but never get hooked but it was a great morning. I love summer!
