New Year in High Gear January 1-17, 2025

Happy New Year everyone!  2025 has started off red hot and it's been a ton of fun.  This is the time of year when I fish the natural channels that cut between the flats known locally as the "finger channels" but iI haven't done that much this month as clients have been booking me mostly for bonefish and other hard to catch species.  The bonefishing has been red hot with some trips yielding half a dozen bonefish on a half day trip.  For those that don't know, catching one bonefish in Biscayne Bay is quite an accomplishment but that has been the bare minimum for us, it's been outstanding!  Resident tarpon have also been around for the first hour or two of the early morning with the se tarpon being in the 20-80lb range feeding mainly on live shrimp or soft plastics.  The "potluck" fishing in the aforementioned finger channels has been good but I haven't done it as much lately.  This type of fishing will yield snappers, porgies, a variety of jacks plus some pompano and mackerel.  We've had consistent cold fronts but the water temps have been a perfect mid to low 70's and I expect more of the same for the balance of the month.  Stay tuned for the second half of my January report, it should be good!

Wow, what a new year wrap up! December 21-31, 2024

Wow, wow wow what a way to wrap up 2024! As I mentioned in my previous report beginning of December fishing was a bit slow, but it got shifted into high gear and it's been absolutely a blast. Fishing in Biscayne Bay went from good to incredible the second half of this month and fishing in the Everglades has been a ton of fun and very productive. In the Everglades we've been catching tons of trout, some redfish but snook fishing has been a bit slow. But as we turn our attention to Biscayne Bay we've been catching bonefish almost every trip we have targeted them and the last two trips of 2024 have been absolutely magical. On the 30th I fished with regular client Kevin and we had an insane day, hooking four Tarpon and landing two of them, hooking eight permit and landing five, losing a snook and hooking four bonefish and landing one to complete our grand slam. The following day wrapping up 2024 I fished with visiting clients David and Lia and the fishing continued to be on fire. We started the morning with David catching his first snook and Lia jumping her first Tarpon then we moved off where they got a doubleheader of bonefish then David hooked and landed his first tarpon and we wrapped up the trip and 2024 with them releasing 12 bonefish. What an insane couple of days what a great December and an amazing 2024. Happy new year everyone!
