February 23, 2017 Report (Tarpon Video!)
George and his son George (G2 from here on forward) were referred by a great client of mine so with great tarpon conditions we sped off to tarpon fish. It was slow at first with no fish showing on my Raymarine or rolling but they suddenly came to life and minutes later we had a double header with 100 plus pound tarpons jumping and smoking drags heading in opposite directions. G2 did a great job fighting his fish while George was on point working his stubborn fish that wouldn't jump and burn up some energy. Twenty minutes in G2's fish is near the boat, just a few more feet for the release and the hook pops free. NOOOO! about an hour into George's fight and the fish ready to come to the boat for the release the braid breaks. URGH!!! All that work! As we kept tarpon fishing they caught a nice mutton snapper, missed a few bites and the tarpon shut down. We ended the day catching trout over the grass flats.

Well, there's a saying in the fishing world that goes like this "You don't know until you go." and so it was today. Kerry is from Wyoming and our trip was hanging on the balance due to the miserable weather forecast but Kerry braved it and said "let's go". The weather forecast called for 15 MPH winds and 90% chance of rain, ouch! Looking for tarpon on fly we found none so we switched off to trout but the fishing ended soon as the wind cranked up to 35 MPH and it was time to go!

Well, after working at the Miami Boat Show for four days I was ready to hit the water and regular client Arthur jumped aboard with his assistant Angie. Working the tide we fished a permit spot that produced a big margate for Angie. Over the grassflats they both caught a bunch of trout in short order so we ran down to a wreck where they caught bar jacks, trigger fish, snapper and blue runners (shark bait). Jumping onto the flats they had some shots at bonefish but didn't manage to hook up.
PM Report
My afternoon report was also with regular clients Guillaume and Jessica. Avoiding the boat show traffic we ran south to a wreck we had all to ourselves and kept the rods bent on a number of species. Hitting the flats for bones and sharks we found few of either but they landed a massive stingray that kept us busy for almost an hour. Whewww. Time for a nap!

It's Valentines Day and I better be done with this trip on time otherwise tonight won't look too good! John, Sharon and their son are from the UK and jumped aboard to get some fishing in on their vacation. Starting off on the hunt for tarpon we found some that quickly dissappeared and therefoer so did we. Hitting the grassflats they caught plenty of trout and then we moved off to the catch the outgoing tide in search of tarpon. Again, they were MIA but plenty of other species were willing to play ensuring bent rods, sore arms and a timely return to the dock.

My morning trip was with regular client Dean from TX and was in town for Valentines Day. Nice move Dean! As usual we started tarpon fishing but they were unwilling to play. In the meantime Dean caught a grouper that came up and ate a tarpon bait. Cool! Switching away from tarpon we kept the rods bent with snapper, hogfish, bar jaks and then the sharks moved in. Flip a bait out, mark them on my Raymarine, wait for it, zzziiinnnggg! Dean got a nice spinner shark giving him a nice jump and some smoking runs in the process. Way to go Dean!
PM Report
Brandon fished with me in the past and today he brought two buddies along for some fun. Going right back to where I left off with Dean the action was still hot. The salient theme of the trip was lost fish since we lost 4-5 nice sharks some nice fish to the bottom and then missed a few trout bites as they came up and smashed the artificial lure. All in all we had steady action but suffered from rubber hook syndrome in spite of a double header on nice sharks.

February 9, 2017 Report (Tarpon Video!)
Day two with Alain and Ethan and the wind shifted a bit today and I figured it would improve the tarpon fishing, and it did! We found some fish rolling and happy as could be and willing to eat. On our first drift Ethan hooked a 120lb tarpon that gave him a great fight and some awesome jumps before spitting the hook. The rest of the trip we dedicated to catching different species and having a great time!

Alain and his son Ethan from France fish with me often and were in town for a couple of days of fishing. Today we mixed it up and caught a bunch of different species after spending a few hours looking for tarpon but not finding any. Towards the end of the trip I stared marking shrks on my Raymarine and these shark junkies couldn't help themselves so we ended the day shark fishing.
