January 25, 2018 Report ( Crazy video finale! )
Well, yesterday we had a nice day on the water weather wise, today not so much. We had steady 30 MPH winds and gusting higher as Jason and Robert jumped into the skiff and we idled out of the marina. I took them to a permit spot protected from the wind but no one was home. There was only one other spot I could take them to and it paid off. Here the guys caught some nice jacks on lures and then a massive 8 foot bull shark that took the guys an hour and 50 minutes to land. Watch the video for the craziness and a surprise ending.

Back on David's boat we had his nephews Jonah and Charlie. Again, David really wanted them to experience shark fishing so shark fishing we did. We hooked several spinner sharks, 9 or so, and landed none. What? Well, when spinner sharks jump they tend to wrap the line around themselves and break off but the guys had a great time and experience the brown fury of Miami shark fishing.

Today I had a cool client on board, Maura from CT. She wanted to chase bonefish, tarpon or permit but with 68 degree water and high winds bonefish was going to be our best bet. We got to one of my favorite spots and had a few schools move in and on one of them Maura finally hooked up. As I was stretching to net the bonefish the hook pulled and the dude swam free before we got the photo op. URGH!!!! The rest of the trip was slow so we headed in at the end of our 4 hour trip.

Jack is a local angler and we had fished before some years ago and he called me at the last minute for a quick morning trip with his wife and grand son Josh. They wanted to focus on food fish and fish we did. We fished a number of spots and while they caught fish the fishing was slow due to a sudden weather change and dropping water temps. All the snappers they caught were on the small side so we chalked it up to a slow day and headed in.

I was joined today by Steve and his wife and they were part of a 3 boat trip I had organized. Steve had never fished before and his wife hadn't fished in 20 years so forget tarpon and sharks, let's keep it simple. So, off we went to the grass flats and they had a blast catching trout. These guys were great and Steve mentioned how he can see someone getting hooked on fishing since it was so much fun. Way to go Steve!

Today I was back on David's boat with Steve aboard along with Steve's girlfriend. The goal was simple, David really wanted them to get a shark and there were tons of them. After hooking a few we finally had a solid hook up and the tag team of Steve and his girlfriend worked well until David stepped in and closed the deal. With sore arms they decided to cut the trip short and we ran back as they relaxed.

Well, today was an easy name day as I was fishing with cousins Kent and Kent. How about that? So, of we went and caught trout, jacks and searched for tarpon but with a steady breeze the tarpon were hard to reach. The day ended on a high note with the guys catching a ton of fish and Kent beating out Kent by quite a few fish, I just say which Kent.
