Fall's Mixed Bag November 13, 2020

Regular client Kevin from Utah brought his daughter and son in law and the goal was to keep them busy catching fish regardless of species.  Perfect, that's the perfect plan for fall.  So, I located some bait, threw the net a few times and loaded up the live well.  With enough bait on hand we fished a few different spots where they caught mutton snapper, mangrove snapper, yellow jacks, big blue runners, trigger fish and we lost a few really nice fish we couldn't keep out of the structure.  Then we hit the flats and got them some sharks.  It was a very cool trip with great people and the list of species caught was long.

And the wind continues.... November 5, 2020

Kent and the gang were on for a second day and today we changed it up.  It was blowing 30 MPH today and we decided to stay close to the marina and in the lee of the wind as much as possible  Things worked out with the guys catching a bunch of mangrove snappers, jacks and we hooked a few bull sharks.  Nick was on the big bull shark and and hooked a nice 250 to 300lber.  The fight lasted 55 minutes and then the hook pulled.  Ouch!

This was a brutal yet satisfying day November 4, 2020

Kent, his dad Jeff and brother Nick flew in from TX just to fish with for Kent's annual trip with me.  Well, with the wind blowing 30-35 MPH it would be a tough day but off we went.  The guys caught snappers, sharks and jacks and when the tide was right I took them to a flat that works for me and fished for bonefish.  We ended up hooking four and landing one bonefish, quite a feat in this relentless wind.  Whew, time for a nap!

Ask and You Shall Receive November 1, 2020

Sometimes it just works out that way.  Ricky and his wife Samantha jumped aboard today and Ricky really wanted to land his first bonefish.  He's caught tons of fish before but this one still eluded him.  It was a gorgeous day but no the easiest with a steady 20 MPH wind blowing straight at us.  We went to a spot I really like, especially under these wind conditions and got to work.  It seemed like in no time later Ricky was hooked up and landed his first bonefish.  Whew, mission accomplished.  We could have had a double header but the second fish spit the hook.  After missing a few more bites and then getting slow we turned out attention to Samantha who really just wanted to catch fish and the shark she caught "didn't count".  LOL  I found bait, threw the net, loaded the well and hit a wreck.  Live chumming had the fish going nuts and they caught mutton snapper, yellow jacks, mangrove snappers and lost a few really nice fish.

Late Start, Fast Start October 23, 2020

John called me at 8am wanting to go fishing today with his wife so I said yes and got ready.  Two hours later they were in the boat and off we went.  I got them on some fish from the beginning but I wanted them to catch something big.  I decided to run down to the flats and shark fish as John's wife really wanted to see sharks.  Well, we hooked 6 sharks and lost five, all to different reasons.  In the end, they were happy, I was happy and it was time to go home.

The three amigos October 18, 2020

Today I had Chet and his two buddies aboard and they just wanted to catch fish.  I caught bait and off we went hitting a few spots where they caught different species to warm them up.  Then I took them to another spot that was loaded with jacks and kept them busy until the star performer showed up and when they did it was on!  Bull sharks couldn't resist the commotion and could be seen swimming close to the boat.  In the end we hooked five and lost all five.  Urgh!  They guys are now hooked and want a bull shark next time.  Me too!

Toughing it out in the "Glades October 14, 2020

Today was supposed to be on fire as I looked at the forecast and the tide.  When Alec and I met up in the Everglades it was a different story.  The wind was cranking and there was much more water on the flats than there should've been.  Oh well, it's time to go to work.  We hit the first spot and the water was really dirty from the wind but did mange some bites and finally land a snook.  OK, it looks like it's going to be good since the first few minutes were solid.  Then, it slowed down.  We spent the rest of the trip looking for clean shallow water and every time we found it we scored.  In the end Alec had s good number of shots at redfish on the flats and landed a few snook.  Tough day but we caught some fish.
