Ended on a high note May 5, 2021

I had a two boat trip today and on board my skiff were Davis and his wife.  Davis wasn't all that interested in specific species, he just needed to catch more than his buddy in the other boat in order to win a bet.  I started bonefishing with them but that was slow.  Switching to snook had the same results so I took them to a wreck where they crushed in catching trigger fish, yellow jacks, snappers and we lost a big barracuda.  With the bet safely in hand we fished the flats for sharks where we hooked 5 sharks and lost them all.  That was so frustrating!

Tarpon Mania! May 4, 2021

Steve fished with me last month and he was back today for tarpon fishing.  I was a bit concerned because tarpon fishing has been slow but we hit it anyway and went for it.  Turns out it was on fire!  Steve ended up getting 7 fish to eat, hooking three and landing one, in the first hour and a half!  We moved off to fish for snook where he landed one, lost another one and had a few more eat but not get hooked.  We wrapped up the day bonefishing where he got some shots but didn't hook any although it was a bit slow for bonefishing.  Either way, we enjoyed the silver and gold kind of day in Biscayne Bay!

The dynamic duo are back! May 2, 2021

Drew and Jeff were back on board today and being a Sunday out of Key Biscayne I really thought today would be a repeat of yesterday but thankfully I was wrong.  Fishing a bridge for tarpon had our hopes high as there were tarpon everywhere but they were not in the mood to eat.  Fishing a bonefish flat, we were all alone but we only saw a couple of bones.  We ended up fishing a finger channel where the guys destroyed the fish catching, barracudas, look downs, mutton snapper, mangrove snapper, jack crevalles, horse eye jacks, yellow jacks and a few more species I can't recall.  What a nice trip and a great way to end a two days with some great guys!

Today was rough! May 1, 2021

I was fishing with Paul today and his friend Rich for some all around fun fishing.  Paul and I have been fishing for years and being tarpon season that's what we started with.  I located some tarpon but after lots of time and a few tricks they were still unwilling to cooperate.  Switching off to bonefishing we hot the flats and that's when things started to go downhill.  As I set up on a bonefish spot I like a boat starts to idle towards me.  Naw, it's too shallow for the 22 foot cabin cruiser packed with family members, surely he'll stop.  Nope, dude gets off the boat, grabs the anchor line and wades to really shallow spot and throws the anchor, 70 feet from me!  Then the kids get out and start running around, swimming, screaming and running jet skis right by my skiff.  The few bonefish we saw were on edge of course so it was time to move on.  Similar things happened at a few more spots until we found a rare spot that was empty where we caught a few fish before the trip ended.

Ending the month on a high note! April 30, 2021

Today I had two trips scheduled but the morning client never left a deposit and never responded to my calls or texts so I moved Jeff from afternoon to morning and it was fine by me.  I love fishing with Jeff and his boys Will and Drew but Will is in college so we were missing one.  Drew was set on catching a bonefish so we took advantage of the tide we had and Drew capitalized landing the first bonefish he hooked and hooking a bigger one later but the hook came free after a long run.  Ouch!  The trip wrapped up looking and fishing for tarpon but no bites.  Congrats Drew!

What an intro April 29, 2021

Leo moved from Argentina and is a fishing junkie and being new to Miami he wanted to try inshore fishing.  Having great conditions and little time to work with on a half day I had to stay focused and stay on schedule.  Tarpon fishing, very few fish, off to snook.  Snook fishing was a blast with quite a few fish hooked and landed along with nice jacks.  But, something ate one of the jacks and then I realised it was a big bull sharks so the next jack caught was bait and we hooked the big bull and it was a blast.  The day ended with ladyfish giving us some drag burning, high jumping thrills.  Welcome to Miami Leo!

Missed opportunities April 27, 2021

Back with Alex and Andrew but with the wind increasing we were out of Miami today instead of Homestead.  We had good conditions overall early on so we looked for tarpon but not finding big numbers we decided to look for snook.  Well, we found them but we lost quite a few only landing one.  I can tell the second fish Andrew hooked was a slob snook but, it, came, off!!!!!  Wow!  Along the way the guys caught other stuff but those lost snook will haunt me.
