The back up plan September 5, 2021

Boy the weather has been absolutely perfect but the weekend boat ramp traffic has been tough.  I've been getting to the marina about 40 minutes before each weekend charter just to be able to launch the boat.  Anyway, Bill jumped in and we started off bonefishing but after a few shots, no hook ups and then fwe fish we changed it up catching some jacks and snappers on wrecks but no big mutton snappers yet.  The morning ended on a flat sight fishing for lemon sharks where Bill had a blast watching them eat and then making really long jumping runs.  Very cool!

Toughing it out September 4, 2021

Don has been in Miami for work about a month now and he decided he wanted to fish and catch species he doesn't catch back home with an emphasis on bonefish.  Bonefishing was the start of the morning as we found a few schools but no major movement and so we changed it up fishing some wrecks where Don caught some nice fish on lures.  Overall the fishing was good but the bones were largely MIA today.

Just bending rods September 1, 2021

Back on the boat after a long hiatus was Dan.  We fished a number of years ago with his son and now he was back with his friend on a day off from work.  The goal was to just bend rods and catch whatever and so we did.  The fishing was definitely slow today only catching small snappers but no sharks or nice jacks.

The fun duo August 30, 2021

I had two great local kids today in Eli and Jackson.  These 16 year olds wanted to try fly fishing for bonefish and we started off working the leeward side of a point where there are usually bonefish swimming through as we tried to stay out of the usually high wind courtesy of hurricane Ida.  The boys worked on the double haul I taught them and they picked it up quicker than most but we didn't hook any bones.  Spot two was desolate so I thought I timed the tides right but once we got to where I wanted the tide hadn't turned.  With about an hour left in the trip the boys decided to catch fish versus hunt for bonefish so I took them to a wreck where they caught a bunch of snappers and runners with Jackson outfishing Eli on fly.  What, more fish on fly than bait?  Yes!  Today fly was the hot ticket but in the end is was a draw.

Mark caught what? August 29, 2021

Michael and Mark booked me for a half day of catching dinner but I have to admit, I was sweating it this trip.  The first three spots we fished usually produce but not today.  At the third spot Mark caught two fun sized barracudas but still no dinner.  Dang!  Once the tide turned I took them to spot number 4 where they finally scored with a bunch of snappers and jacks but the trophy was Mark hooking something that fought different and when he got it next to the boat it was a small permit!  Wow!  I've caught permit at this spot before but it was still a nice surprise.  Sure it wasn't a monster but a permit is a permit is a permit.  Nice work Mark!

First timer scores early August 19, 2021

I had a last minute change of plans for Christian and his son Christian.  With the breezy morning I took advantage of the tide and fished for bonefish as Christian wanted, wait which of the two Christians?  Anyway, dad hooked up and landed a nice bonefish.  As the tide continued on it's way out the fishing got slower.  I decided to end the trip by working different flats but they were pretty slow.  I would have loved a few more bonefish but I can tell you Christian was on a high getting his first bonefish and so was I.

High School Grad Reward August 15, 2021

JD from N.J. graduated high school and wanted to come to Miami to fish as his graduation present.  Ha, good kid making good choices!  He came along with his dad Jeff and we mixed it up.  We started by fishing for a few tarpon I marked on my Raymarine but no bites so we moved on where Jeff lost a huge 30lb snook that ate right next to the boat.  Wow!  Then we wrapped up the day catching snappers and bonefishing but the bonefish were MIA.
