Kid vs Shark May 6, 2023

Larissa booked me at the last minute in order to get her 12 year old son, Sascha, out on the water.  They were great and Sascha wanted to catch everything so we focused on shark and he landed a nice bonnet head shark.  With the action dying off and only catching small snappers we decided to go for broke and get him a bonefish.  Well, the bonefish kind of cooperated.  Sascha hooked up twice but the bones came off both times and we also missed a few takes using shrimp.

The Grind Continues May 4, 2023

Man this early morning high tide is killing me.  It's been scattering the fish and making them tough to talk into eating a fly but Tom was aboard today we gave it a full day.  I ran all over creation today with few shots and no fish hooked.  The target species was bonefish and we drew a blank. That's it, not much else to say.

Another Double May 3, 2023

My morning trip was with Steve again and it was a repeat of yesterday but with fewer shots at permit and more opportunities at bonefish although it was slim pickings.  This early morning high tide has been rough!  Steve missed a bonefish take and we saw a few flashing and coming to close to the boat but boy were they tough to convince this morning.

The afternoon clients were super chill and really nice, Emmett and Heather jumped aboard with big smiles and off we went.  I asked Emmett what he wanted to fish for and he said "whatever is biting but bonefish would be great."  Oh man!  Ok, off we went and now I had the outgoing tide just like yesterday afternoons trip.  Well, not long into the trip Emmett had his biggest bonefish to date in the landing net.  Ha, the bones were pouring through!  You could see them flashing and swimming and the Emmett was on again with an even nicer bonefish.  Then it was heather's turn and cashed in as well.  Total for bonefish was 4 hooked, three landed and about a half dozen takes and misses.  Whew, how crazy is that!  We wrapped it up catching yellow jacks and they called the trip early in order to get back to an event they had.  Nice!

Double Today May 2, 2023

My morning trip was with repeat client Steve and Steve can fish and he can throw a fly.  We started the morning looking for permit on fly with unusually high water but there was zero wind.  These conditions made it possible to see schools of permit cruising and tailing with Steve getting a few good shots at them but permit will be permit.  We changed it up to bonefishing but the high water made it tough for the balance of the trip.

My afternoon trip was with Alec and his friend from Rhode Island.  Alec wanted to take it easy and not bonefish so we hit the flats for sharks and the guys landed three sharks and we lost another 3 big lemon sharks.  It was a better trip in the afternoon with the falling water today.

Seeing Ghosts May 1, 2023

Fernando was referred to me by a client I fished with over 5 years ago.  Wow, that was cool!  So, the goal was fly fishing and Fernando shook off the rust pretty early on and landed a few bonefish within the first few hours of our full day trip.  As the tide changed we ran south looking for migrating mullet muds in order to throw flies at a number of different predators that work the mullet schools but they weren't down south.  Then I ran east and found a bunch of mullet muds but oddly enough none of them were being crushed by big jacks, tarpon, sharks, lady fish and more.  We wrapped it up having a few shots at bonefish in really skinny water before heading back.

Bonefish April 29, 2023

Jeff had originally booked me for two boats but the guys on the second boat couldn't make it so it was just me with Jeff and his friend.  Thankfully Jeff was cool enough to give me plenty of heads up so the other guide could fill that day.  Anyway, off we went and fished for bonefish where he landed a nice bonefish but the fishing was definitely slower today.

After a 2 year break April 28, 2023

It's been two years since Paul fished in Biscayne bay and I was glad he chose me as his guide for our full day trip.  The target species was bonefish and permit so we went for bonefish first under prefect conditions.  Not long into the morning Paul had 7 bonefish under his belt on his own spin tackle before we decided to look for permit now that we had great visibility.  It took about 20 minutes to cross the bay to the oceanside flat I wanted to fish for permit and it took about that long for storm cells to start to form.  Come on!  Anyway, with limited visibility Paul had a shot at a big permit so we were pumped.  Except, there was a huge storm to our north building towards the marina threatening to close us out and then lighting began to crackle.  Hmmm, we looked at each other and decided to head back early and fish 6 hours instead.  We had a heck of a morning and made the right decision to barely beat that really nasty storm.
