December 23, 2015 Report (Unbelievable, must read!)

Guillame and Jess are from N.Y. and were taking advantage of a little vacation time and getting some fishing in. Guillame wanted to do some bonefishing but we had some obstacles in the form of 20MPH winds which is unusual for us this time of year. I used an old trick of mine and after a little while one of the rods doubles over and Jess lands the first fish of the day, a small shark. A bit later, another rod goes off and the other rod doubles over as well and we have a double header. They weren't running like bonefish and we brought the first fish to the boat and it was a small shark. Immediately after as Guillame is fighting his, a huge splash and a big dorsal fin erupts out of the 3' deep water. The shark takes off and we're both thinking the big shark had gotten hooked but not realized it until now. After a 10 minute fight, the rod snaps straight and we're thinking it broke us off. To our amazement, Guillame had hooked a small shark and a much bigger shark attacked it and the rod snapped back when the small shark was finally bit in half! Unbelievable! The next rod to go off was a solid 10 plus pound bonefish that spit the hook after the initial scorching run. Ouch! What a morning!

December 14, 2015 Report

Brian and his co worker Toni came down a day early for their business meetings in order to spend some time on the water and catch some fish. They have never fished in Miami before so I was eager to show them what has been going on lately. We made a quick run to the first and only flat of the morning and had awesome consistent drag burning action all morning long. It was a close race but I have a feeling Toni out fished Brian towards the end although Brian did start on a hot streak. It was seldom the case where a few minutes would go by without a hookup and the sound of the drag going off. After 4 hours of constant action it was time to head in as the wind began to pick up. We had a great time they caught a ton of fish and I look forward to fishing with them again next time they're down here. It's always an adventure being on the water and today we found a sunken boat close to the marina in about 10' of water. Thankfully for these folks they were close to shore.

Scott is a pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays and him and his wife jumped on board on Sunday for quick 4 hour trip to see if we could find some bonefish. The conditions were tough with 20 plus mile an hour winds, dirty water and only a few places we could fish. Making the long but comfortable ride over the flats down to one of the primary fishable spots under these conditions we staked out and began our search. In spite of our best efforts we caught two sharks and a flounder but no bonefish to be had. The ride back was a little bumpy as the wind continued to pick up reaching speeds over 25 miles an hour. These were great people, we had a great time, talked about a number of different topics and had a lot of laughs. Good luck next season Scott! Capt. December 10, 2015 Report (Video!)

Anthony is from New York and was in town for his friends wedding so he decided to get a little fishing in will he was staying in paradise. We started the morning off on a productive grassflat and the first three casts yielded three difference species, lady fish, blue fish and spinner sharks all on artificial. What a way to get the morning started! The rest of the morning was very similar as we caught fish after fish after fish including a lot of sea trout, lady fish, blue fish and spinner sharks. There were few times at the beginning when blue fish were jumping out of the water as big spinner sharks were feeding on them. A quick cast into the area got an instant hookup for Anthony and moments later a big spinner shark was trying to devour his blue fish right on the surface. What a sight! Today was a solid day under cloudy but calm conditions, temperature in the seventies and red hot fishing. This is paradise in the winter time!

David is a regular client of mine and he brought his friend Steve along. Last time Steve came along we had a great day shark fishing on the flats with a shark blitz that kept us busy for quiet a while. Today we would stay close to the marina and take advantage of the hot fishing that has been a daily occurance. The morning started slower than expected but after the tide turned a a few showers cleared the fishing turned on with lady fish, trout, snappers and spinner sharks all eating our lures and burning some drag. It was a great way to kick off December and it's looking better each day!

Having had saturday and sunday off you to high winds I was eager to get back on the water today in fish with locals Juan and mark. Meeting them at a marina in South Beach we made the short run to a grass flat and spent the entire morning there finding hot action on a number of species including ladyfish, spinner sharks, mackerel and trout.

Having had a blast on Wednesday Pilar and Constancia jumped in the boat again while her husband and son jumped in the other boat. I really wanted to reproduce the last trip but the wind was blowing even harder today. We tried fishing a couple of spots in the open bay but the water was too dirty and made fishing difficult. We decided to go back to the docks we fished last time and it was even better today than on Wednesday. After losing a few nice fish Pilar and her daughter ended up catching over 30 fish including a really nice hog fish. These were great people and we had a blast catching fish in calm water away from the wind.

This morning I had a split charter with a buddy of mine on board came to Pilar in her 14 year old daughter Constancia. Pilar had never gone fishing so she was excited and I was looking forward to getting her on some fish. We had a brutal 20 to 25 mile an hour wind but since there is always a place to hide from the wind in Miami we started fishing a series of docks on the leeward side of an island and had a blast pulling fish out of the docks. The final count was something around 22 fish beating her husband and her son in the other boat. However, men being men, the guys fished an extra 30 minutes to rack up another 15 more fish and secretly beat the girls. Capt. November 24, 2015 Report (Video!)

This past spring James his son Jack and his daughter Ryan had booked me for some tarpon fishing and they were able to tag team a big tarpon during our trip. Being back in town on vacation James booked me again but this time it was just him and his son Jack. The plan was to go catch whatever would provide the most action and my eyes were set on a nearby flat that has been producing really solid action. Our one obstacle was a steady 20 mile an hour wind that was keeping the water chopped up and making casting difficult courtesy of a fold front the day before. As we arrived the action was immediate steady and non stop for the duration of our four hour trip. We were catching big lady fish, bluefish, trout and spinner sharks. At one point as we were setting up another drift I saw bait being busted and made a quick hundred yard run in front of the school. I shutdown the motor, instructed them to cast towards the school of fleeing bait fish and the hookups were immediate and constant. There were times where they would hook up immediately and big lady fish would jump, spit the hook, land in the water only to be gobbled up by another lady fish or blue fish. Mixed in there also spinner shark and a look at this video will provide an incredible site in the last frame of the video. We had a blast, caught a ton of fish and put some significant wear and tear on brand new lures I had just tied on that morning. This is what it's all about after a cold front in Miami!

It's William's 10th birthday and his family decided to bring him to Miami for a fishing trip and a Heat basketball game. With that in mind, Will and his dad Nick climbed aboard for a short morning trip to get William on some fish and ensure a good birthday. A short 5 minute run later I shut off the motor and handed them a rod each. A few casts later Nick hooks up to a nice ladyfish and the steady stream began. Will caught a number of high flying, drag sizzling ladyfish, a trout and a couple other species. At the end of the trip he was mentioning how his hand was hurting from all the fish he caught. Mission accomplished and happy birthday Will!

November 19, 2015 Report (Fly fishing)

Having taken a few days off to have my boat trailer worked on I was eager to get back on the water and Jason from Montana jumped on board this morning. Today was a bit breezier than expected so we had to adjust to the conditions in order to have Jason fly fish but adjust we did. We only had to fish two spots this morning with the first spot having some tarpon around but unable to get one to eat. Spot two was out in the open wind and made fly casting difficult so Jason saved that for last. Using artificial lures fishing was solid with a lot of action and bent rods. Towards the end Jason picked up the fly rod and was able to land his first fish on fly. We ended the day with a hot streak of fish on almost every cast and as I always say "what a great way to end the day on Biscayne Bay"!

Today Mike was on board again and this time he brought his boss Rahul but the conditions were vastly different. Today we had overcast skies, threatening storms, 20 to 25 mile an hour winds. Under these conditions there were only a few places that we could fish comfortably in that wind and unfortunately all three spots yielded little. On a business trip from Virginia, Mike booked for a late morning trip to target bonefish but the weather didn't cooperate for bonefishing. Last night when we spoke the trip was up in the air as the forecast was calling for 20 mile an hour winds and lots of rain but it turned out we had surprisingly good weather for the first part of the trip. The short run to our first spot, and our only spot of the trip, produced constant action on spinner shark, ladyfish, quite a few trout, and constant bent rods and screaming drags. We tried to stay close to the marina as we could see some threatening weather building and eventually we had to get off the water and run back before the more intense parts of the storm hit us. It was a short but intense trip and tomorrow we're taking out his boss. No pressure!

Charles is a state law enforcement officer from North Carolina and was down with his wife and little girl for a conference for his wife. Having spent the entire week taking care of his 18 month old little girl, today was the day he would take a break from the grueling job of playing mother. He jumped aboard with his father in law Robert and within a few minutes we were into a bunch of tarpon. Unfortunately they had lock jaw. Moving on we got into hot fishing with a few doubleheaders thrown into the mix. Throwing lures we had almost non-stop action on spinner shark, bluefish, snapper, sea trout, lady fish, and a few other species. When the tide turned we decided to fish a few other spots that produced a few big mackerel and saw a bunch more that wouldn't hit our lures. This gets me excited as mackerel are becoming more and more present in Biscayne Bay as we draw nearer towards the end of November. These are two great guys that caught a lot of fish and we had a blast. My hat's off to Charles for being an excellent father!

Today's charter was a full day trip out of the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo. With Bill and Don jumping aboard we began our search for the elusive Biscayne Bay red fish and some bonefish action. We had some great conditions and in spite of our efforts didn't find either as overall fishing was slow today. We changed it up and fished a few different spots that produced some big mangrove snapper and a few other species. We ended the day fishing a spot I like close to Bill's house on Ocean Reef Club that holds big mangrove snappers and landed a few there. Capt. Sarah had booked me a few weeks ago to get out and do some fishing with her boyfriend Jeff. Being both from Canada it was great to be able to show them around Biscayne Bay. Looking for some action we hit one grass flat and stayed there for quite a while since the action was red hot on a number of species including bluefish, ladyfish, spinner shark, trout, snappers, jacks and a few other mystery fish we did not land. After a while we decided to change it up and hit a jetty where we had a few nice hits and Jeff was able to land a nice grouper. The next spot allowed us to catch a few mackerel before heading down to the finger channels. At the finger channels we caught a variety of snappers but the fishing proved to be slower than expected. Hitting one last spot prodiced a few quick fish before ending the day with a nice short run back to the marina and sore arms. Sarah had book me a few weeks ago they get out and do some fishing with from boyfriend Jeff. What a way to introduce someone to Miami!

I took a few days off to work at the Broward Boat Show and today I was back on the water with local angler Erick and his friend Joe from Louisiana. The morning started off red hot fishing the grass flats with ladyfish, snaper and Jack coming into the book consistently along with nice big spinner shark busting Bait around this and eating a few of our lady such as well. We hope the nice big spinner shark but lost it after a long run when you spit the hook. We made a run down to fish for snook and lost a few snook on book sets. Changing it up we finished the finger channels but it proved to be slow other than a mutton snapper. We wrapped up the day fishing some structure close to the marina which resulted in a few short mutton snapper.

Dean is a regular client of mine from Texas and jumped on board this morning in the hunt for snook. We have tough conditions with 20 to 25 mile an hour winds that made it a rough run down to the creeks with perfect bait to feed snook. Fishing a number of creeks proved fruitless other than a few barracudas and snapper so we decided to change it up towards the end of the trip. This proved to be the ticket as we had mackerel and big jacks devouring our lures with ferocious top water hits and drag burning runs. It was a blast and a great way to end a trip with a great guy.

November 4, 2015 Report (Shark Video!)

This afternoon I had Frank, Tim and Dave jump on board and off we went to the same spot where Jason and Laurie got worn out yesterday. As expected the fish were still there however I didn't see as many spinner sharks as yesterday but we were able to hook a couple of them including a bruiser we never could stop. Again the fish just wore out these guys and it was another stellar afternoon in Miami!

November 3, 2015 Report

Earlier this morning I received a call that Jason and Laurie wanted to do a half day trip in the afternoon, so sure enough at 2 o'clock they jumped on the boat. They let me know that in the morning they had been offshore fishing and it was very slow but not being the type to just sit around the pool they wanted to get back into the action. A short run later we arrived at our first and only spot of the trip where it was fish after fish after fish on almost every cast. So much so that Laurie and Jason had to take a couple of breaks in between. I love that! We even had a number of spinner sharks trying to eat our hooked fish right next to the boat! They decided to cut the trip short because the fish had worn them out and wanted to get back in time for a dinner meeting. These are the days that I live for in Miami with lots of bait, lots of action and tons of fish devouring our lures. Tired anglers equals a big smile on the captain's face. I love it!

Christine and Chico are local anglers and a couple of months bank Christine had booked a six hour trip for Chico's birthday that we had to reschedule due to weather. Today however was a different day with gorgeous weather. We started off snook fishing and although they were some snook scattered about feeding we could not get one to eat so we moved on to a shipwreck. Arriving at the shipwreck there were tons of fish, mainly big blue runners that kept harassing Chico while Christine lost a nice mutton snapper and landed another one. We tried a couple of other spots and ended up shark fishing on the flats. The response was immediate and we hooked a nice big shark within a few minutes but lost it immediately. Many more sharks came in but refused to eat. Weird! We ended the day at another wreck where immediately I saw a big Barracuda follow one of the fish we had hooked. Using one of the caught fish as bait I tossed it behind the boat and let it sit there. Within a few minutes the rod doubled over, the real started to scream and a big Barracuda took to the air quite a distance away. After a long blistering fight Chico landed a big Barracuda to end the day and celebrate his birthday finally! Happy birthday Chico!

October 30, 2015 Report (must watch video!)

Today I fished with Graham from the UK and what a great day we had. We started off under slick calm conditions looking for mullet schools off of South Beach but didn't find any. We fished the deeper grass flats using lures and it was on fire with fish on almost every cast. In a couple of hours we caught tons of trout, Barracuda, big mangrove snapper, jacks and big high jumping lady fish. At one point Graham hooked two big mangrove snappers on the same lure with one fish on each hook, it was amazing! Switching gears we caught some live bait and ran down to fish the creeks for snook but only had one brief hit and didn't hook any but had an incredible encounter as you'll see in the video. With the changing of the tide we ran back up to South Beach found a bait school being busted and again, great action including the first mackerel school of the season. With our attention back on snook, Graham hooked, fought and lost a massive snook using a big live mullet. The day ended losing another nice fish before heading in. It was a great day with tons of fish. I love fall in Miami!

October 27, 2015 Report (Shark!)

Day 4 and the last day we are scheduled to fish and Eliel was replaced by Alain’s friend Didier. We repeated what we have been doing and shark fishing remained solid. Everyone landed the target species including Didier getting his first Miami shark on the flats.

October 25, 2015 Report (Shark!)

Eliel didn't make it today and boy did he miss out! While the ladyfish action slowed, other species took their place and the shark fishing was on fire. We hooked 11 sharks in 3 hours of fishing the flats. Unfortunately we only landed 1 due to a number of reasons including pulled hooks and break offs. Urgh!

Hooked on the hot action Alain, Eliel, and Ethan wanted a repeat of the last trip and so it was! Fall in Miami is awesome and today is a clear example. More hot action and more big sharks on the flats including losing one big shark we never were able to stop!
