February 14, 2020 Report (Bonefish Video!)
Wow, it's Valentines Day and the weather could not have been more perfect! Mike was celebrating his birthday today by going fishing and I had the pleasure of being his captain for a full day of bonefish on fly. The first spot as loaded with fish but the tide was extremely low so after having to get off the boat and push a few times the party started and it was school after school for about an hour. After a few close calls but no hookups we hit another spot and it was game on! Fishing a great winter time spot there were more bonefish and permit than you could count and here is where Mike got two bonefish on fly plus snappers, yellow jacks, look downs, blue runners a shot at tarpon and plenty of shots at permit. What a great day with a great guy!

I get so many cool people on my boat and today I had a really cool guy, Bernard from France with fly rod in hand. We searched all 8 hours for bonefish and they were MIA, this is a very rare occurrence but it happened today. So, in order to break it up we fished shallow ship wreck and Bertrand had a blast catching a bunch of species on fly. The trip ended with more searching for bonefish to no avail. WHat a tough bonefish day but Bertrand was great!

I had Ed and Dave today, long time friends from NY and we had a blast. As novice anglers they just wanted to catch a few fish. Well, they did more than that as they tore it up in spite of the wind. In the end, we used up all the bait right as we ended the trip and the guys had a blast catching pompano, mackerel, jacks, snapper, small grouper, yellow jacks and more. Some tarpon moved in and we fished for them for a while but they were on a diet and didn't want to play.

Henry is back! Henry is a really cool guy and local client that books me a lot but he'd gone missing for a few months but he was back with Jake, Teddy the Shiba and Vidi. Henry likes to catch fish and there's no doubting that so with 7 dozen shrimp we hit the first spot that was dead. They made the comment that I always take them to the slow spot first and the second spot is always awesome. LOl Crazy guys! But, they were right! The second spot was on fire and since he loves jacks they were thick! Double hook ups were common and we had several triple headers along the way. Well, once we went through 7 dozen shrimp in what seemed like a few minutes I tied on lures and the craziness continued. What an afternoon!

February 2, 2020 Report
Well, well, it's Super Bowl Sunday and a cold front moved through making for great super bowl weather this evening but cold and windy this morning for my trip with Joe and his daughter Maddie. I've fished with Joe before aboard my client David's boat but today he booked me on his own and his daughter had never fished before. I made a short run in the chop and cold wind but 10 minutes later we were at spot one, not so much away from the wind but definitely where the fish were yesterday. After a few casts and no bites I started to be surprised and thought it was the dirty water. But, a few minutes of persistence lead to Maddie's first bite and then it was on! I started with about 7 dozen baits for our 4 hour trip. Well, Joe and Maddie were done 2 1/2 hours in and ready to head in just as I was down to 10 baits. It was hot fishing in spite of the cold weather and they caught:
Mackerel
Pompano
Bluefish
Jacks
Lane Snapper
Mangrove snapper and
a small grouper
Way to go guys!

A real nasty storm moved through last night casting doubt on today's trips but he morning was nice so Andrew and his son Jack jumped aboard and off we went. They were in town to attend the Super Bowl (spoiled!) so they jumped aboard for a brief 3 hour trip with the goal for jack to catch jacks. Spot one was slow, spot two was great with the guys catching jacks, pompano, bluefish, mackerel and snapper. They decided to end the trip early after 2 and a half hours and called it a day so they can attend super bowl related activities. What a great day with the bonus being getting back to the dock before the rain moved in.

It's been pretty cold down here in Miami with cold fronts rolling through every couple of days. Today I was fishing with David on his new 24' Pathfinder and the water was glass calm. We bought tons of live pilchards and headed offshore for kingfish and mackerel but the morning already had an ominous tone. I asked my bait guy for an offshore report and he told me there was no current offshore, no current means no fish. Well, we tried it anyway and there was zero current every where we went and the boats around us never hooked a fish. So, we fished a few spots and it was slow all the way around but David did get a cool false amberjack along the way.
