May 18, 2020 Snookmania Report

I saw the forecast for today and I was truly undecided on whether to fish for bonefish and permit under perfect conditions in Biscayne Bay or fish the perfect tide for Flamingo in the Everglades. Hmmmm, I tossed the idea around in my head and decided to fish the Everglades with John. Well, it worked out just fine thank you! The first spot and a few casts into John throwing a top water lure in about 14" of water got him a massive pop and the rod bent, nice! Minutes later a nice snook came to the boat and it would be the first of many, many snook to get released today. This same spot had produced a ton of redfish a few days ago but they were hard to find today however, I wasn't complaining with all the snook being caught. The next spot not far from the first produced plenty of snook, a few jacks and a couple of trout. So we're less than 30 minutes into our trip and I already have 2/3 of a grand slam. As the tide bottomed out and the incoming tide began to flow we could see redfish cruising in super shallow water but couldn't reach them. After a few more spots I landed a redfish and had my grand slam for the day, snook, trout and redfish on the same trip. This was a very productive all lure no bait day and boy was it a blast!

May 12, 2020 Report

I fished with David last year and he was back in town and he just had to go fishing again. However, I got a text from him at 11:30am asking to fish at 1pm so I had to HURRY! I was out of the house in 15 minutes and met him at 1pm. He had asked to go shark fishing so we did. Getting to the flats it took maybe 10 minutes to hook up and he was on more often than not including catching two different species of shark and a nice barracuda. After releasing one of the sharks he dropped his phone in the water, which was about 2 feet deep and had do jump in to get it. I've never seen someone move that fast! We had a blast and can't wait to fish with David again.

May 11, 2020 Everglades Report (Hilarious Video)

Some people just have that "juju" and my fiance Jeanny has that "juju". On another day off we went down the road to Everglades National Park with her niece and her husband. Valentina and Sandy hadn't fished before and they were really excited, I was too, I love this place. The first few spots were slow but once the tide bottomed out ot was on! Jeanny landed a big trout and refused to take a picture with it while it was alive (see attached hilarious video) while the rest stayed busy losing a few nice fish and catching small sharks and jacks. Then a few spots later the tide started coming in and they caught redfish, snook, sharks and more. However, Jeanny caught a nice redfish and a big snook which means....she got a "Grand Slam"! Sandy and Valentina also caught snook and redfish during a frantic non stop window of about an hour where fishing was on fire. I couldn't help it and I grabbed a bonefish rod with a Mirodine and hooked fish on almost every cast resulting in a grand slam of my own with snook, redfish and trout. Just like that the wind cranked up to about 25 MPH within 45 seconds so we called it a day and headed home reveling in grand slam glory.

May 9, 2020 Report (Redfish Video)

Guides day off trip today, I guess since I was still asleep when I agreed to it. I called my buddy Mike around 10am in order to swing by his house and he tells me he was on his way to Flamingo in the Everglades on a solo fishing trip and asked if I wanted to come along. I said yes, confused and half asleep. Within 40 minutes I met him at the visitors center and we were off. It was awesome, I hadn't seen Mike in about 10 years and it was so great to catch up. Along the way we caught about 15 or so redfish and snook before calling it a day after three hours. What a cool trip and it was great to see my friend again.

May 8, 2020 AM & PM Reports

AM Report I had Gonzalve, his 6 year old awesome Sebastian and his brother Charles. There were two goals this morning, target and keep Sebastian busy catching fish. Tough job in 4 hours but there was a chance. The couple of spots that had been holding tarpon were empty this morning but I found another group of fish and after a bit the bait got crushed and the line ripped across the surface but my angler couldn't come tight fast enough and the hook came free. Urgh! Then we turned our attention to Sebastian and it was on! On almost every cast the guys hooked up with jacks crushing whatever was thrown at them and Charles got a nice grouper along the way. 11am came quicker than we thought and it was time to drop them off. PM Trip Mike is a local angler and we hadn't fished in about 4 years but he was back today with his 10 year old daughter Isabella that was celebrating her 10th birthday. I took them to the spot that was on fire in the morning but it was dead. After a long run I took them to the flats where they caught barracudas and sharks plus some jacks before the trip was over. What a cool trip and Isabella was awesome as she fought her shark and barracuda with just a bit of help from dad.

May 4, 2020 AM & PM Report

AM Report The morning trip was with Sam and Greg and they wanted to bend the rod and have a good time. Being tarpon season my first stop was for tarpon fishing. I located a ton of big fish in the 120 plus pound range and missed a bite on bait and one of the guys missed two bites throwing artificials. When the tide turned I changed it up and they caught jacks and snappers but I wanted something bigger so we hit another spot. There they caught yellow jacks on lures but missed or lost big yellow jacks and 30lb jacks. Ouch! The last spot produced snappers on almost every cast as we ended the day on a high note and full of laughs.
PM Report I love fishing with Kivi and he brought his friend Charlie with him as we social distanced our way to a shallow wreck to catch them some dinner. The first wreck was Ok but the second one was better as we hooked a hammer head shark in 6 feet of water that ate the live 2lb jack we fed it. It was amazing as we were able to see everything unfold in before our eyes. Eventually the T head broke us off as the line frayed on the head. Then we landed a big nurse shark and wrapped up the day in a channel where they finished off their goal of fresh fish dinner with yellow jacks, mangrove snapper and porgies. Yum!

May 2, 2020 Report

Today is Saturday and what a surprise I had at the boat ramp. It was all smooth Wednesday and Thursday at the ramp but I had gotten word that Friday was crazy so I prepared for this. Arriving at the marina at 5:35am for my 7am charter, I was faced with a mile long line of boats waiting to get into the marina which is usually open 24 hours but due to Covid 19 they now open at 6am. The process of getting in took 2 hours but by 7:30am Ben and I were on idling out of the marina. We tarpon fished a but but it was slow so we focused on catching versus fishing. Well, that went well. Ben caught a ton of jacks and then I took him to another spot for sharks. At the shark spot Ben kept rolling but no sharks around. Then it happened, a big splash, a bent rod and a screaming drag. Yes, a shark ate the live 2 lb jack! After a 30 minute fight what came to the boat was the largest jack caught on my boat at around 45 pounds. Unfortunately, my photo skills failed me here and the jack looks smaller. We headed back with big smiles under beautiful skies!
