July 30, 2014 Report
Today was the first day of lobster mini-season and there were hundreds of boats on the water diving and snorkeling for the spiny critters severely limiting where we could fish. Alejandro and his son Valentino from Argentina and his sister jumped in and we headed out. After a passing storm, conditions became gorgeous and the fishing turned on. They caught over 30 fish including numerous nice hard fighting jacks on artificials and bait. Alejandro hooked one tarpon on artificial but lost it immediately and we lost another one on bait a bit later. At the end of the day we had almost run out of bait and the lures showed significant signs of wear, always a good sign!

Key Largo was the site of our efforts today as I had local angler Richard for a fun day on the water. We waited for over an hour for storms to pass but as soon as they did, conditions were clear and slick calm. Oh, and HOT! We got into snook in 12 inches of water but could not get a bite. A few reds pushed wakes towards us but accurate casts were ignored. We fished hard and released several nice sized jacks on artificials and bait. Fishing was tough and the water temps were 90 degrees!

Jim and son Jimmy from Wisconsin were in town and wanted to experience bonefishing. We started with slick calm conditions and promptly got into schools of bonefish. Poling in super shallow water, calm water we didn't have to leave for almost two hours as schools of bones kept coming one after another. After many casts at bones but no hook ups, the action slowed down. We finished the morning catching a number of different species including nice sized jacks and mangrove snappers.

Kurt and his kids Alejandro and Claudia came aboard for a few hours of fun catching some fish. It was fun having them on board and they caught plenty of fish including watching a big barracuda slice a snapper in half right next to the boat. Taking the half snapper left I pitched it back out and we hooked the big barracuda. Alejandro and Claudia tag teamed and fought the 'cuda close to the boat. Unfortunately, the barracuda broke us off next to the boat before we could get a picture of it.

Steve was in town and a little fishing was in order so off we went in search of some hard fighting species. We started fishing for sea trout and caught a few, then off we went to the finger channels for snappers and small grouper. We had an imaginably low tide today so we couldn't fish the flats but there were plenty of fish in the channels. Steve caught a bunch of snappers and lost some nice fish to the rocks. On one of the snappers a big barracuda slices it in half right next to the boat so I rigged a rod and Steve got him, a nice 3' toothy barracuda. Fishing picked up again with the Barracuda no longer around but then another one ate another snapper in time for us to call it a day. It was a gorgeous day and we had a blast!

All the way from Texas came Carlos and Andrea on vacation and while here, of course check out the Miami fishing. We had a great time catching trout, snappers, big sharks and other mystery species that never made it to the boat. It was a great day with some great people.

July 9, 2014 Everglades Report
On a guide's day off I met up with my friend Carlos and headed down to the 'Glades for some shallow water redfishing. Conditions could not be more beautiful with zero wind, clear skies and the end of the out going tide. Being on the bow of a skiff is a rare occurrence for me and I fully enjoyed my time casting to ultra shallow water tailing redfish. The fishing proved tougher than we would have liked but ultra shallow slick clear water puts fish on edge and redfish are no exception. I tried feeding them flies but no takers. The fish we did get were on soft plastics cast 2' in front of them and worked inches from their mouths, a demanding endeavor requiring extreme casting accuracy but one worth pursuing. We finished the day with several nice fish released and surrounded by tailing redfish in about 6 inches of water. We had a ton of fun!

July 6, 2014 Report
Earlier in the year I fished with Angelo and Lissette from Colorado and they had mentioned their son loved to fish. Today I had the pleasure of fishing with their son Panos and his two cousins Danny and Nick. The day started breezier that it should be in July and some cloud cover but we proceeded to bonefish anyway. We ended hooking 4 and landing 2. As the tide changed we caught snappers and had sharks in our chum slick but none would commit to our baits. We had a great day and had a great time catching bonefish.

Happy 4th of July everyone! Today I had the pleasure of fishing with Chuck from Georgia and his buddy Slade from Ft. Lauderdale. We had slick calm conditions in North Key Largo and had shots on fly at tarpon, shots at permit and bonefish on bait but no commits. We saw fish on every flat we fished except for one. Very nice day but no hook ups.

Local angler Ken and two friends climbed aboard today for some fishing around Key Biscayne. We had some great conditions to begin and were surrounded by rolling tarpon. Unfortunately they had lockjaw and ate neither our baits or flies. We ended up catching snappers on bait and lures and had several tarpon track our flies but not commit.
