December 15, 2016 Report (Tarpon Videos!)

12/15 My regular client and good friend David and I were back at it hunting tarpon for his friend Warren. We found fish and began working a long string of rolling tarpon. On our second drift Warren hooks up and releases his first tarpon. The third drift got David a solid hook up but the fish broke off not long after. Deep breath! Our fourth drift was a home run with David hooking up again and releasing another nice fish. Having had their fill we switched gears and called it a day. The tarpon fishing has been solid with multiple fish releases each day!

December 13, 2016 Report (Video)

12/13 In town for a conference, Will, Brad and Andrew decided to go fishing instead of hanging out in the hotel. We only had to fish one spot and while the tarpon were MIA there were others to take their place. We lost a few fish and then caught bait for sharks. The sharks were thick and we hooked about 6-8 before heading in. At one point there were 3-4 sharks surrounding the boat eating whatever we would throw at them. What a blast!

Ephrain is from NY and was in town visiting relatives so with fly rod in hand we hit the bay. He quickly got a few fish on fly to break the ice and between fly and spinning gear the rods stayed bent with species such as grouper, snapper, trout and more.

12/10 Eitel is from Italy living in Ohio and tried to fish with me two years ago but we had to cancel due to weather. Today was a close call as well but we decided to head out in spite of the threatening skies. We fished two and a half hours before calling it a day due to constant heavy rain but there was good action during that brief time including landing a nice spinner shark in the middle of a torrential rain storm.

December 8, 2016 Report ( Tarpon Video)

David, Lee, Len and I headed out today on a quick 4 hour trip to tarpon fish and it was good!  Right off the bat Lee and Len hooked into a double header with Ken losing his fish and Lee landing his.  A few missed bites later Lee hooks up again only to lose his fish to a spit hook and we called it a day after getting 6 bites, getting four hook ups and landing two fish.  Not bad for just a couple of hours where we had the fish all to ourselves.  The big tarpon arrived yesterday and there has been a mile long line of fish willing to play!

Fishing picked up today as I fished with Pat who was in town for a conference. We still had tough wind but the winds were in the 20-25 MPH range. Bonefishing was out of the question but there were plenty of other species at or disposal. Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

Chris is a regular local client of mine and although we fished in his 28' Grady White today, we couldn't have picked a worst day. 30 mph winds were brutal making fishing slow. Although we caught some fish, nothing significant came to the boat but he did take home fresh snapper dinner.

October 30, 2016 Report

Today was the last day fishing with Alain and his boys and the weather forecast was wrong as usual. Today was another day in which we faced 20 MPH winds that increased to 25 MPH and a steady stream of rain squalls that had 40 MPH winds. No worries, remember these guys are hardcore. After catching bait we set up on the flats for more shark fishing. The number of sharks decreased but their sizes increased. The ones we got to the boat today were all in the 5' plus range and had to be chased otherwise they would have spooled us. In the interim we had a steady stream of rain squalls with 40 MPH winds. Tough conditions but we got the sharks these guys wanted and we got back safe.

October 29, 2016 Report

Day 3 with Alain and his boys and I thought conditions were tough yesterday. Geeze, I should've stayed quiet. Today we faced a steady 30 MPH wind and constant showers. We had a few squalls sweep through with 40 MPH winds but again, the fishing remained good. We hooked up almost immediately and the action was slower than yesterday but steady. The highlight was Alain landing a big lemon shark, one of his goals for this trip.

October 28, 2016 Report (Shark Fest!)

Yesterday I had to cancel my trip with Alain due to 35 MPH winds and gusts to 50 MPH but the weather settled down a bit and we headed out. These guys are hardore since the 20-25 MPH winds and 30 MPH gusts not bothering them one bit. With live bait on hand we ran down to the flats on a bumpy and wet ride and settled into our spot for the day. Again, this was the only spot we needed as the fishing was on fire today! Water clarity was good on the shallow 2 foot flats and it was on! The total tally for the day was hooking 13 sharks, landing 7 and landing a massive 15lb mutton. Sure conditions were tough but the fishing was awesome!

Alain is a regular client of mine from France and he always fishes with his two boys Ethan and Elian. These guys are shark junkies and that is what we have planned for the next 5 days. Today we faced a steady 20 MPH wind and gusts higher but no biggie. After catching some bait for chum and bait we made a 20 minute run down to the flats. The water was clean and we had good current and the end result was hooking 5 sharks and landing 3. Not too bad and it kept them busy on the rod with screaming drags.

October 22, 2016 Report (Video!)

Rob is a regular local client of mine and we hadn't fished in quite a bit so today we fished on his bay boat with his friend's Ed and Shawn. Loading up on live pilchards we hit the creeks for snook and 5 spots later we had missed a couple of bites and landed a barracuda. Off to the finger channels for big muttons but that proved slow. Next, we fished a shallow wreck where we caught snappers, trigger fish, porgies and blue runners. With bait and chum in hand for shark fishing we hit the flats and set up the fresh chum. The sharks were coming in hot and fast and we hooked 6 and landed 2. We ended the day on a high note and those sharks are always a blast!

Ian and his friend were in town for a conference and skipped the afternoon session to hit the flats. With fly rods in hand we bonefished on our half day trip. Conditions started off really nice and great visibility but started to deteriorate half way through the trip. During the time we could see the bonefishing was slow and as the tide got higher I stuck to the shallowest water I could find to no avail. By the time we headed in the conditions had gotten worst. September 30, 2016 Report

Mike and I have fished before and today we were going to go bonefishing. Conditions were good so we started off fishing close to the marina to get some other species in the boat first before committing to bonefish. The snook spots were slow and we found a few tarpon with lockjaw but managed to catch a few other species. Running down to the bonefish flats it got really good with lots of bonefish swimming through. We had a ton of shots at bonefish but didn't hook any. They were acting extra spooky today and even a cast 8 feet in front of them would spook them. There were several times where Mike made solid casts and the bones would cruise around the shrimp and ignore it. As frustrating as that was my only explanation is that they were keyed in on something else other than shrimp. Capt. September 28, 2016 Report (Snook)

Those of you that read my reports often have heard of my client and friend David since we fish very often together. Well, I had the pleasure of fishing with him again today and he brought his friend Peter along. Peter was great and while the action started slow for snook, our second spot was a hit with Peter and David catching a bunch of nice jacks and David landing a solid snook. The trip ended on the flats were we sight cast a nice spinner shark only to have him break us off and being ignored by another shark we were sight casting to.

I've known Mike for almost 30 years and some way or other we have always stayed in touch. Well, after 2 years of planning we finally got together and took his grandson out for a morning of getting 9 year old Nick on some fish. Arriving at a shallow shipwreck the action was immediate and consistent with Nick (and Mike) catching big blue runners, mangrove snapper and mutton snapper. Looking for larger fish I took them down to a few spots north of Key Largo but short muttons is what we landed. We ended the day with Nick having caught a bunch of fish and singing a song as he drove the boat. Can't beat an ending like that!

A made a new friend today in local angler Jeff. This trip held a special meaning for him and I wanted to make sure it was a great trip. I am always humbled and honored when someone chooses me to be their captain for a trip that holds special significance to them. The morning portion was on fire with countless shots at bonefish in super skinny slick calm water. As soon as the tide began to come in the fishing shut down and we struggled the rest of the day but did manage to catch a few sharks along the way. Capt. September 14, 2016 Report (Bonefish Video!)

We were on a mission today, really we were. Luke is a scientist with UMASS working with the Bonefish and Tarpon Trust, an organization that I am proud to be a member of. Our goal today was to catch bonefish is South Biscayne Bay, get a fin clip and draw blood for a DNA study. The goal of the study is to determine if pollution and other man made environmental factors are affecting the DNA of our bonefish. Right off the back we hooked 5 and landed 2. With samples taken we released the bones and ended the day with a shot at a big permit and covered by mudding bonefish. >

August 27, 2016 Report (Snook!)

Today Aladwani from Kuwait hopped aboard and the plan was bonefish. However, with a brisk wind and storm clouds everywhere we had to forgo bonefishing. However, he had just bought a new rod and reel at Capt. Harry's Fishing Supply and he wanted to break it in along with some new lures. I am always humbled by what transpires every day and today was no exception. Aladwani mentioned to me that quite a few people in Kuwait had fished with me before and they highly recommended he call me. Wow! I have to tell you, Aladwani is one skilled young angler. We pulled in to the first spot and I told him where to cast and I warned him not to screw it up. Well, he puled back and fired off an extremely accurate cast landing exactly where it had to land, an explosion in the water throws white foam everywhere and his rod doubles over. The drag screaming and Aladwani trying his best to hold on, 10 minutes later he gets a nice jack on his new rod. Broken in! He was amazed how much damage was inflicted on his new lure. Moving on to spot two, he proceeds to land two snook and a barracuda including missing a few other snook bites. Hey, it happens! Only 2 hours into the trip we had to all it quits because of a massive storm building over us. Way to go Aladwani!

August 26, 2016 Report (Snook, Tarpon Video!"

Chad is from WV and was in town with his wife so off we went at 6am for an early start. Spot one had just a couple of tarpon so we moved. Spot two was really all we needed as it was on fire. Chad hoked 9 big snook, landed 7 and we missed a few more bites. To add to the drama, he hooked and lost a fun size tarpon but not before we enjoyed a few big jumps and got one on video. Spot three had a bunch of tarpon stacked up but not feeding. What was feeding were small black tip sharks that kept us excited with each bite. Chad was a pleasure to have aboard and I was glad he caught his biggest snook to date. Congrats Chad!

Phil and his wife Michelle are local anglers and joined me early this morning for bonefish and permit fishing. The conditions couldn't be better with a clear windless morning and an early morning low tide. Throughout the morning we had a half dozen shots at permit, both cruising and tailing as well as 4-5 shots at big schools of redfish and a few shots at bonefish. There was decent action although slower than anticipated but all in all we had some good shots. However, Phil and Michelle were great to have aboard and when they left I felt like I had known them for years. I look forward to fishing with them again soon. Capt.
