March 4, 2020 AM & PM Report

AM Report My morning was day two with David and Marcia and with the air temperature rising the water temps were now 73 degrees. After checking out a few spots we hit the mother load of tarpon in a calm warmer spot. They were all over the place rolling, finning, floating and occasionally eating something. The last 45 minutes of the trip was dedicated to these fish as David cast a fly and drifted a live bait for them. Well, no bites!!!! URGH!!! PM Report My after trip was with Hasaan, Noah and Sammy. These guys fish with me every year and the goal is always to keep the little kids busy. So, I took them to a finger channel and the boys wore themselves out. Then, we went back to the morning tarpon spot and they were still there but thinning out as the tide began to slack. We did get a bite but the fish never got hooked. Come on!

I had David and Marcia aboard today to fly fish for tarpon. Uh, oh! Water temps were now 70 degrees so we hunted for tarpon all over the place finding just one small school of resident fish. David did want to change it up so we did and we fished a finger channel that has been producing a bunch of different species and that was the ticket. There David caught snappers, jacks, yellow jacks, runners and more on spinning gear. Capt. Mo Estevez www.miamiboneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

March 2, 2020 Report

After a day off and the cold still sitting over us I bundled up and met Rob at the marina this morning. We've fished together before and it's always great spending time on the boat with him. I couldn't help myself so I hunted for tarpon and after not finding any with the water temperatures in the high 60's it was time to change it up. When the dust settled Rob had caught snook, jacks, snapper and a few nice fish that we lost.

Well, it's still cold and night time temperatures continue to keep the water temps lower than I would like. Regular client Brad and I headed off to catch different species on fly and spin but I really wanted him to catch bonefish on fly. I fished all over creation and they were MIA and so were the tarpon but the shallow ship wrecks saved the day and that was a ton of fun. Capt. Man what a blast with these three today, Dick, Pete and Ellen! They were referred to me by a client and they just wanted to hang out, catch some fish and have a few laughs. Well, we did just that. I had plenty of bait but we ran out towards the end of the trip because it was on! The main culprits were jacks and snappers but I mixed in some tarpon fishing as well. I hadn't laughed this hard in a while and that made me feel a bit better about the slow tarpon fishing and cold water temps. Capt. February 26, 2020 Report

Today was a tough day for sure! The forecast was calling for 20-25 MPH winds out of the south so I held my breath and told Jeff to meet me in Homestead in order to use the shoreline as shelter and bonefish on fly as he wanted. Well, well. I got to the marina and it was calm with no wind. Go figure! Hitting all my bonefish flats proved fruitless except for a shot at a permit. Ok, no problem, I'll change it up and hit some wrecks. Which we largely void of fish. Along the way Jeff did get a big trigger fish on fly which he had targeted unsuccessfully on the flats of Belize. That was cool but I would have rather him catch bonefish on fly! Urgh!!!!

February 25, 2020 AM & PM Report

I had Barry on board again today and we went straight to tarpon and permit but we had the opposite tide this morning so our spots were limited. I looked far and wide for tarpon but most of them were sitting on the bottom unwilling to move, much less feed. Once we got the first movement of outgoing tide they moved a bit but not much which resulted in no redemption from our last trip and losing a massive permit. In the afternoon I had regular client Josh and Janelle for a laid back abbreviated trip. Their goal was to catch 1 fish to make sure we didn't get skunked and continue the tradition of always catching when they book with me. With not much time to work with I took them to a nearby spot where they went through 6 to 7 dozen shrimp in no time catching snappers and jacks with some nice snappers thrown in for good measure.
