First time fishing salt May 27, 2022

I don't know what to say.  Some guys are just spoiled that way and well Joe is one of those guys.  I had Nolan, Luke and Joe on board and they wanted to fish for bonefish and permit with a steady 15 plus MPH wind.  Hmm, no worries I'll stick to what has been working but it took some faith.  Eventually Joe hooks up and the reel screams with a few long runs and some stubborn closer to the boat brawl.  When the dust settled I had Joe's first permit in the landing net and Jow as screaming like a mad man.  We got the pics, the release and then the admission, this was his first time fishing in salt water.  WHAT????  Time to retire dude!  Luke and Nolan missed a few fish, probably smaller bonefish before Luke landed a solid 10lb bonefish.  Dang, what a day!

Man on Fire May 25, 2022

John is from D.C. and likes to use artificials so that was the plan but we would be limited in the relentless 20 MPH wind.  Right when we got onto a flat there were snook busting mullet and we invested about an hour throwing all manner of lures at these 30" snook that kept flying out of the water chasing bait but to no avail.  We moved on to the next spot for bonefish and it was game on for the next four hours with John going 6 for 7 on bonefish including a solid 10 pounder plus a few jacks and missing a few bites that I'm sure were smaller, harder to hook bonefish.  The trip ended in the mangroves throwing lures for snook but John caught two barracudas instead.

Bucket List Eliminator May 24, 2022

Craig jumped on board today for permit and bonefishing with a steady 20 MPH wind and dirty water.  Man it's been tough conditions but it has worked out and I was hoping for the same for Craig.  I set up in an area that has been on fire and it started slow.  Oh oh!  Then he landed a jack, not what we were looking for but then....the rod doubled over and the reel screamed.  Yes!  Wait, it was a permit!  Awesome! With the permit out of the way it was time for bonefish and it took much longer than I would have liked but eventually it came and after a long scorching run Craig landed his 10 pound bonefish.  Wow!  Two bucket list foh checked off the list under terrible conditions.  Whew!

Tarpon SUCK! May 23, 2022

Tarpon season has been slow and today was a shining example, unfortunately Alexis and Raul were on board to witness it.  Although I searched all over creation, the only tarpon I found were at a bridge and they wouldn't eat.  That's it, that's the tarpon report.

Rich and Lucas fished with me today on an otherwise windy day, especially for May.  I took them to the area I have been bonefishing in the last few trips and catching bonefish on every trip so we went for it.  The guys worked and eventually Rich got hsi bonefish, a small fish by our standards of about 2 pounds.  Rich declined a pic with the ominous statement of "it's alright I'll get a bigger one.".  No!  Anyway that was it for bonefish landed but we did miss a few bites, probably from smaller bonefish that are harder to hook due to their smaller mouths.  Off we went to a channel where Lucas finally scored a bunch of snappers including some for dinner and we wrapped it up on the flats with each of the guys getting nice lemon sharks.

Toughing it out May 21, 2022

Today was a 180 degree difference from yesterday with high winds, very cloudy conditions and the threat of rain all trip long as Ash and Parker fished with me.  They wanted bonefish, tarpon and permit and some fly fishing but they were wise and listed to their guide as I explained our best bets given the conditions.  With that in mind we were limited as to where we could fish but we made the most of it.  The first two bonefish spots were dead slow so off to spot three.  I changed tactics here and they scored hooking 5 bonefish and landing two.  Nice!  The trip ended in the mangroves trying to get a snook on fly but it didn't quite work out.

Alec is back! May 18, 2022

Alec usually fishes full days with me but today life got in the way and could only do a half day in the afternoon with the goal of just catching fish and use his new GoPro.  I took him to a channel where he caught some snappers and yellow jacks and then moved on to the flats.  Here we pulled double duty, drifting the flats for barracudas and sight fishing for sharks.  We saw a shark, a bait was cast, a little coaxing was required, the shark ate, it was on!  After a great fight Alec was able to get some really cool videos and break in his GoPro.  The trip ended looking for bonefish and to keep the trip stress free I chummed up some bonefish but something REALLY bad happened.  A big stingray ate one of our baits off the bottom, freaked out and swam away really fast and with it went my $300 bonefish spin rod combo.  NO!!!!!!!  How in the world did the rod come out of the rod holder?  I've hooked hundreds of fish off that rod holder.  The expensive mystery remains.  Urgh!!
